He died last week battling a medical issue that confrontd him the past few years.
Tillem was a KGO Radio legal talk host--The LOYAH--guested with Ronn Owens and soon after hosted his own show on KGO.His show was cancelled and 86ed in the initial stages of the 910 AM era.
Very sorry to hear of his passing. His show on KGO was both informative and a scream to listen to...sort of like Jackie Mason goes to law school. R.I.P. to Len and condolences to his family.
ReplyDeleteMy father listened to him on the weekends. RIP.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear -- he was great. Have missed his show for years but lucky enough to have a bunch of podcasts.
ReplyDeletewould listen to his show on KGO weekends and then 960(?) daily hour on my lunch breaks teaching. Informative but mostly for the fun. Sorely missed. RIP Len. One of a kind. "You're nutz!"
ReplyDeleteI had the pleasure of meeting Len at his office in downtown Sonoma some years back when he was doing his show from his office. I walked in to meet with one of his associates and he was off to the side "warming up". He was doing stretching exercises and moving his mouth up and down and from side to side. I just looked at him, with that, what the hell are you doing look. He looked at me and side, "I'm warming up for my show." His associate told me that Len was a real character.
ReplyDeleteAww. RIP Len. I loved his show. He told it like it is, good, bad, or indifferent.
ReplyDeleteDr. Dean and Len were the only two people I listen too on KGO. Looks like the angels have a great Loyah. Condolences to his family.
ReplyDeleteI got to sit in with Len one time when he did his KGO show from his office in Sonoma in January, 2011. He was a great guy and every bit the character you heard on the air.
ReplyDeleteI’ll really miss Len. I’ll never forget when Len’s show was before the Diva in Vegas, and said Diva wanted Len’s guests on his show. Len fired back, “You get your own guests!!” RIP, Good Sir.
ReplyDeleteVery bright guy. Opened every show with "I'm a loyah!". He went to NYU law school.
ReplyDeleteWas great on the radio with KGO and then 910. Then went to podcast but that flopped after just a few months. He always said his greatest fear was dying of Alzheimers. Hopefully it was not that.
Used to turn on the radio for Len and Dean Edell, and no one else.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear. Was a very good entertainer on the radio while dispensing some good info at the same time. Side point... wonder if the current KGO might want to consider a couple of specialized programs like this one and Dr. Dean Edell's old show. Those kinds of shows can become appointment radio if they find the right hosts.
ReplyDeleteI loved his show. As a grad of UCSB, he often bashed the stoned and drunk student body and referenced all youngsters as "young and dumb!"
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed his show. Always learned something.
ReplyDeleteRegarding being let go from 910 AM, Maybe Gil Gross didn't spend half his show shilling for his paid legal services to old people. I considered Tillem's show on KGO as an unpaid informercial because that's exactly what it sounded like.
ReplyDeleteBack then Len had an attorney associate of his by the name of Michael Gilfix and they would put on these seminars that dealt with trusts and wills.
ReplyDeleteI didn't take to Len right away when he first came on KGO. Honestly, I think it was his NY accent. Sorta offputting and made him sound like some sleazy gangster. I grew to love and look forward to his show. I loved the political incorrecctness. I don't think it would fly in today's world. I sent him an email with a legal question once, and he gave me a humorous, thoughtful response which I greatly appreciated. RIP Len.
