*To say there's indiffernce and hostility at KPIX would be an understatement. More real anger and distraught. CBS knew the problems and issues that were taking place under Generalissimo Neerman but failed to intervene and do anything. Only did they act when a few prominent whistle-blowers raise hell and boy, girl, did they ever. Neerman is out and Lisa White is interim ND; word is PIX wants to hire from within, but my guess is they go outside the market. Deep cleansing is needed.
*Neerman was thought to be just a guy who was tough and tenacious, demanded quite a bit. That was the word from his defenders; not such a bad edict, but when you start barking loud and screaming at people, including women, that's a no-no. These days better to call a meeting and buy lunch and act sort of warm and fuzzy. Neerman didn't get the memo.
*Lost in local radio teams: the simple concept of having a conversation, a simple talk, a chat. No bits, no segments, no planned talks just honest dialogue but truth be told, they (the morning yellers) don't know how to conduct the most natural of chores. It's like a rubic's cube to them. Oh, they try. But they FAIL. They have these pre-show meetings and go over what they plan to say, but the dreaded sound effects, the so-called "drops" are part of the itinerary. They can't help themselves.
*Not so long ago I was schmoozing with a woman weather anchor and telling her how sort of contrived, phony the majority of her peers were--she laughed and agreed. Of course it was a private moment because her public view was completely to the contrary. I'll defer to you all to understand how I feel on that one.
*Christine Craft would bitch and moan over a cure for cancer.*Jim Gabbert could have bought KGO for pennies on the dollar (like TV20) but Gabbert had no interest which should tell you the real worth of an albatross AM fossil that is KGO Radio.
*If the Examiner and Clint Reilly are serious about adding Phil Matier to the roster, then Clint is going to have to write a bigger check. Phil doesn't need the money and is busy anyway but a lowball offer from multi-millionaire Reilly doesn't help matters.
*I still can't find a print edition of The Examiner which apparently is the case city-wide. Maybe there's a hidden message there. I don't mind a good tabloid with gossip and decent stories but the EX is devoid of both. Remember the good old days when the Chronicle and Ex were tied to the hip? Paging Will Hearst.
*The EX initial downfall: when they hired Rob Morse to try to be a Herb Caen only Rob couldn't come close. No one could. Now or never.*Reilly (pictured with his wife) has a lot on his plate. Rumor central: he'd run for mayor and challenge London Breed but he'd probably lose and besides, he'd have to sell the Examiner and that would negate his power chord in SF, socially and politically. Better to spread your wings and not have to worry about the homeless and pot holes on Market Street.
*Damon Bruce of 95.7 FM "The Game" might be a good time to update the resume. Just a hunch.
*Ryan Yamamoto, new PIX anchor debuted the other night: yawn. But I'm not losing sleep over it. You get what you pay for.
*The old Darya Folsom is back at KRON. Old habits are hard to shake off. 'Nuff said.
..."but when you start barking loud and screaming at people, including women, that's a no-no."
ReplyDeleteSo it's all right to be a shitty, unprofessional manager, but only to men? Pretty sure men are people, too...
Heh...that comment stood out with me as well. Isn't that basically the definition of sexist? Treating men and women differently in a professional setting? Hard to believe its 2022 sometimes...
DeleteHaving just buried two friends, one of whom hung himself in his garage due to intractable lymphoma pain, and the other who died in part from grief, let me be the first to tell you that there is no cure for cancer. Shouldn't you be checking out the sales clerks at some department store or something and telling them how awful they are?
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say about Christine Craft that hasn’t already gone and been said about Afghanistan. She looks bombed out and depleted.
DeleteHere’s one. I had a buddy that ran a station in the Midwest when Christine Craft went out there. He said she was begging for attention and acknowledgment and would wear f me high heals. Don’t believe all her feminist I’m not a lady talk. It’s all an act.
DeleteWhen did you ever see me?
DeleteDear 1:17. I have had multiple foot surgeries. I have never worn fuck-me shoes(as named by Shelley Winters). I think they should be worn in bed, only. They are the western form of foot bondage. I worked at one station in the "midwest"( Kansas City). I never wore high heels, and never have worn them, period. Tell your buddy he's full of shit, just like you. Afterwards, you can sign up for some adult education and learn that there is no such thing as a "high heal".
DeleteOh hush Christine. Why are you so thin skinned. Why must you feel the need to be so defense over everything. Have a drink, relax, and live your life. You sound like Trump. Stop being so damn sensitive and act like a lady!
DeleteThe orange vulgarian defends himself. I defend myself. I do so when a false allegation is made( see above). Donnie does it when too much truth is revealed. Your analogy is flawed, fatally.
DeleteI agree with Neil. Christine doesn’t like to be proven wrong. Maybe a workman’s comp case can keep her busy.
DeleteWorker's comp is the lowest form of the legal profession. I've been in HR for 30 years I see it all the. WC carrier offers a $ 50K PD settlement, injured wants $ 60K and hires a lawyer, lawyer compromises to $ 55K and takes 10% fee, so the client nets $ 49.5k (less than the original $50K). Don't hire WC (snake) attorneys.
Delete6:56. I haven't practiced worker's comp law in over a decade. Your description of how it works is pretty amusing. The legal fees for comp lawyers who go to bat when your claim is denied and company doctors claim you aren't injured, are set by statute. That means all comp lawyers are paid the same fees, a percentage of the eventual recovery. If you are injured on the job, seriously, to not have representation is exactly what someone in "HR" would want you to do. Comp lawyers battle with those doctors and insurance companies and get you to physicians without a stake in the matter. Many injuries have what are called "sequelae". A workplace injury, settled too quickly, can lead to a million negative consequences for your health and life. The loss of a leg, for example, can cause your remaining lifetime to be pure hell, including the affect on other body systems, continuing employment and psychiatric consequences. YOu should never get a comp lawyer for yourself if you suffer workplace injury.
DeleteChristine, WC judges approve all settlements correct? No injured worker is being abused in such a system, right?
DeleteIf you think WCAB ALJ's read every detail and insist that medical disputes over degrees of injury and continuing medical care are settled fairly, I have a bridge for you, cheap. Were you born yesterday? The only way that happens is if the patient has a fierce advocate.
DeleteHi Rich,
ReplyDeleteWally from New York. I miss San Francisco but still follow goings on. Keep up your good and necessary work.
You can get the print edition of San Francisco Examiner online at sfexaminer.com. They changed format a few weeks ago so don't expect any real news. I'm surprised they haven't folded up yet.
> Conversation A Lost Art in Bay Area Radio
ReplyDeleteConversation is a lost art EVERYWHERE. Thank you internet and social media, which is actually anything but social.
Ha ha ha! Ask Catherine Heenan about Lisa White! :-)
ReplyDeleteRyan Yamamoto...He works in the men's department in the Fresno Macy's you're always talking about...or is it Nordstrom's?
ReplyDeleteNot sure where you get your information from but KRON is nowhere near a tranquil place. Staff is stressed, overworked, and feel the ND, while nice, is not up to the job. Josh, the ND, started there as a producer and has no managerial experience or other great experience outside of KRON. As for The Examiner, you must not be looking hard enough. I see the kiosks on street corners and find the papers scattered on sidewalks everywhere. On a side note, the Bay Area now has four female news directors. That has to be a first. NBC, CBS (interm), ABC, and Fox. Definitely worthy of a news mention somewhere.
ReplyDelete> On a side note, the Bay Area now has
Delete> four female news directors.
Too bad they all suck.
Where would damon bruce go,he's the world's leading expert on fatherhood, and he loves to brag about how right he was about the Oakland A's management and imply A's fans are "suckers and losers" for supporting them and how the bay area is better as a one market team for the giants
ReplyDeleteAlso gotta love how he reminds everyone he has a wife every 10 min.
DeleteIs that amazing Blonde Clint Reily's wife?
ReplyDeleteHow did HE get her?
you can buy anything with enough money
DeleteDamon is self-important. He doesn't add star power or draw in an audience. His afternoon drive show has been so-so for years. They brought in Ratto to have a second voice.
ReplyDeleteDarya can't change her stripes. just awful
ReplyDeleteYamamoto .. Very underwhelming
Bruce .. nothing interesting to say and the pregnant pauses are getting old
Who is Diarrhea pitching her circus tent under now that her sugar daddy/meal ticket is gone? Why do they continue to keep her around? She reminds me of a tire that has been re-treaded, used up beyond recognition but trying hold it together until she has a mental blow out.
