Trouble in the Ranks at KGO Radio

NOT THAT THEY CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BUT...

There's an unbelievable ANGER and feelings of BETRAYAL at KGO Radio. A small, but vibrant group of producers and staffers (including a NOTABLE on-air talk host are ANGRY and feel a TRUST BOND has been broken.

The group is angry --against Cumulus suits in SF, notably PD, Lee Hammer, who told them that KGO was making significant impact and that a momentum seize was near. That the KGO of '21 was SURGING and that management would reward the small group with more ad penetration and promotion. Neither took place. In fact, a small, mini-massacre occured. It has not gone down well and it will LINGER for the immediate future.

More Monday.

  1. I can't imagine who would be pimping this "trust bond" bullshit. Grow up. Broadcasting is notoriously non-tenurial. You can lose your spot anytime. All the "betrayed" types need to look at the ratings you produce, utterly nowheresville. There's a clue there.

  2. Looks like they need to bring back that "Ronn Owens Report" as a flotation device to stop the sinking.

  4. KGO Radio is a DEAD THING. Anyone who has survived all of the Cumulus purges, and is still employed there, should just shut up and wait for their turn to be fired. Cumulus is CHEAP, They keep "minimally" talented people around because they know that they have no where to go, and that they won't make a fuss as long as they are employed. Kgo is NO LONGER GREAT....That stopped on Dec 2, 2011. If anyone still there thinks they are GREAT, Like Pete, Gene, Ronn in his day, Bernie and Ray and Gil they are deluded. Please, someone buy that station and put it out of its misery. And if the current on air staff think they are REALLY TALENTED...Then lets see if you TALENTS can find a job when that happens. It's OVER...It has been for a Decade. Thurston and Rothman are unemployable outside of the current KGO.

  5. Let the current owner of WABC buy it and put his "Red Apple Networks" programming on it. (unless he buys KSFO instead) The one that is not bought will go dark.

  6. Paul Harvey is calling to get his two spots back, one at 8:30 AM the other at 12:30 PM. I say lets give it to him.

  7. KGO has been dead for years. It once had a great team of news people -- John Lobertini, Elissa Harrington, Lisa Campbell, Kim McCallister -- as well as some talented producers and writers, but they were either let go in layoffs or moved on. I feel badly for those cut in the latest mini-purge, but they should have recognized there was no hope in KGO making any sort of comeback and jumped ship long ago.

    1. The heyday of news at KGO included Kim( a new voice then)...but not the others you name..Mary Lou Manalli, Mary ellen Geist,Jon Bristow etc...when KGO had a real newsroom that covered the city, well before the Cumulus era.

  8. Anyone still working in talk radio...especially Cumulus properties...are stupid, and deserve all that's coming...or are desperate because they know that radio jobs are becoming obsolete.

    1. I totally agree. If any of those remaining idiots think they'll be able to find a job elsewhere in the business after the final purge, they better get their chops down and learn how to collect shopping carts at Walmart or Costco as that's about all they'll be good for. These people were doomed the minute they accepted the terms of their jobs after the 2011 purge.

  12. How much longer can they pick the bones of KGO?
I can't say I have ever seen anything like it.

  13. Kgo virtually has no news people left. Little support crew and but a handful of talk show hosts asked to work longer and longer shifts. Cumulus should just sell the station and be done with it. If it was basely clinging to any kind of ratings before, with all the new cuts it will just be a hollow shell. Why are they clinging to this station when they are intentionally sabotaging it.

  14. It is Christmas time and some people are laid off. Even if you didn't care for their show, have a little compassion. I see a lot of mean comments, also meanspirited comments about those still remaining on the air. What purpose does it serve. So you didn't like the host or don't like those left, that is legit, but why gloat over it? If they are still on the air, don't listen, if they are gone the chapter is closed. Show a little Christmas spirit.
