Bristow landed a KCBS gig and was well on his way to becomming a permanent hire --and good God, would KCBS need him today--only Bristow screwed up. He made an on-air joke that wasn't well received by the women working at the all-news station and was 86ed. I didn't hear the remarks and they seemed so tame (by comparison to other more compelling remarks) Bristow might have been given a pass but he wasn't.
He is not coming back to KCBS anytime soon.
I've been critical of Bristow but overall, he was solid at KGO (for over 20 years) and would have made for a good, local hire for the all-news folks, but oh well.
I wonder what mysogynistic thing he said that was a fireable offense? Maybe:
ReplyDelete"I like what you did with your hair!"
"Is that a new outfit?"
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
Jon Bristow would be perfect for KCBS. He is stable, smart, capable and has good judgment and a well-modulated, strong voice.
ReplyDeleteWell, the only time I heard bristow, he was with rothman and Thurston on 2020 super tuesday on kgo, and he sounded bored, disinterested and half asleep as rothman did his best walter Cronkite imitation giving election returns
ReplyDeleteBristow won’t be coming back. He burned too many bridges. Always telling off-color jokes to the wrong people (Culross). Maybe Christine could be his legal adviser and earn a few dollars.
ReplyDelete"legal advisor" for what, exactly?
DeleteAre we missing the forest for the trees? In the Golden Age of KTVU Channel 2, I didn’t watch for the anchors Dennis Richmond or Leslie Griffith, I watched for the layers of details of stories reported by Betty Ann Bruno and Rita Williams who didn’t draw attention to themselves. When we listen to KQED FM in the mornings, it’s not to hear Steve Innskeep, but to get The California Report or a good piece from NPR.
ReplyDeleteAren’t all AM radio news stations losing ad revenue and listeners to other media due to fewer commuters in their cars? Unless the stories have more energy, stations learn from other media and appeal to a wider demo, does it matter whether the anchor is Walter Cronkite or Ted Knight, especially on radio?
Bristow and get jennifer Jones Lee back from KFI and that would be a great morning drive
ReplyDeletePlease.... He was PISSED when KCBS made room for Jim Taylor from CBS Network Radio. He knew he wasn't getting the love and he decided to dig his own grave. Oh well,
ReplyDeleteKGO should bring back Bristow and dump kiss A$$ Brett Beckett. What a waste he is on morning radio. Almost always clueless.
ReplyDeleteThe Punster? Lord knows why anyone thinks he is good? Dumb as a box of misogynistic rocks.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad about Bristow. Great voice, an experienced newsman and I found him also good to work with. He should be on the air someplace.
