Kate Scott |
IN ALL THEIR attempts to launch successful, popular, entertaining sports-talk radio shows, the schmucks at Entercom's 95.7 FM forgot one very important ingredient: talent.
Other than that, everything is OK.
I don't have anything personally against Kate Scott; I'm sure she's a warm, fuzzy and cool lady, there's just this small deal: she doesn't say anything. Repeat: she doesn't say a damn thing.
Scott is an openly gay (who cares? She does and uses its distinction in job interviews)-- white woman and therefore, is entitled to get cushy jobs like sports-talk hosts, traffic updates; opinion providers even though Scott has no opinion and if she did, would spout out the Vanilla wafer content she does on the Pac-12 Network and when she had her unsuccessful run on KNBR.
The truth hurts. I'm not one who mixes PC thoughts and wisdom. I can't stomach Kate Scott when I see or listen to her and I don't/can't listen to her because even if she did happen to say something of significance it would be lost in the other verbal minutiae she is the queen of being.
Scott is the perfect Bay Area candidate for PC diva --a no-talent, artificial, uninteresting torso of Melba toast who fits all checks on a checkbox of browny-point hiring marks; woman, gay, a superpower of Politically-Correct driving forces. If only she were talented and creative, think of how totally cool that would be.
I'm not supposed to tell you all, this. I'm not supposed to tell you that Scott, truth be told, sucked on KNBR too, and gathers ZERO traction or buzz. When's the last time Scott said anything of notice? Anything worthy of attention? Something? Raise your hand if you can think of anything and if you can, I'll get you a cigar and coffee. Time's up.
I will say this: I am impressed how Scott is able to allow various sports radio bosses to buy the fact that she will bring talent and wisdom to the table which would be great and cool only Scott, when all the PC BS is thrown out the door, delivers NOTHING. Like nada, no buzz, no traction, no ratings, not a needle moved whatsoever and that's the facts, mam.
There are qualified women sports media people out there; Jemile Hill is thought-provoking and interesting. I don't agree with a lot of her takes but I'll read and take a look. Christine Brennan writes a very entertaining column and although I can't stand Ann Killion, I do love her writing in the SF Chronicle.
Show me anyone with talent --god forbid that counts anymore--regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, religion, breakfast choice, whatever, if they're good, I'll watch, listen. Call me crazy, a misogynist, a relic is me and I just want talent and creativity, we cool?
Great.
Have a nice day.
And your opinion of Kate Scott matters because?
ReplyDeleteOh, wait. It doesn't.
"She sucked on KNBR" but she is Gay!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you are openly gay in the media, unless you're unlucky enough to work at Fox News, it will get you places. I submitted a fiction manuscript for publication to have it ignored. Then I changed the cover letter to mention I'm gay (I'm not). I got three offers. That's the way it is these days. Racism and sexism, of the reverse kind, are in. I also once changed my LinkedIn profile to a black person's. Nothing else was altered. The job and networking connections began flooding in. I wrote an article about the whole thing, complete with screen shots of the different response to the two pages, in a post on LinkedIn that I called "Black Like Me." They deleted it in 12 hours and put me on notice my account might be suspended if I did it again.
DeleteYeah, social media responds to certain kinds of outrage. Not others. Merit no longer matters. Appearances to confirm their disproven socio-economic theories about race, class and gender do. We'll pay for it, as other countries leave us in the dust, particularly Asian ones, where they're not so concerned with the silly nonsense we obsess with.
Delete2:09 and 11:46 You two are whning like little girls. C'MOM--it's the freaking San Francisco market! Memo to you two: There are a lot of gays and Asians here! I am neither (I am a blue-eyed blonde 35-year old White female)--but this doesn't bother me, because I know that's just how it is. Now, when I go back to visit family in my hometown (the Indianapolis area), guess what? Most of the TV anchors and reporters are blue-eyed blondes like me! Shocking!!!
DeleteKate Scott was also the lead announcer -- although she has ZERO experience with the game -- for a ground-breaking national NHL telecast earlier this year that featured female talent and crew. She's got to know somebody. She has no talent whatsoever. Beth Mowins would've done a better job. But Kate Scott thrives because she's a lesbian who's been in the right place at the right time. Good for her. Bad for the audience.

It's gender politics today. In everything out here at least. One reason why so many other people are laving.
Take a lesson from Howard Stern. Lesbians bring in the radio audience. Fact!
ReplyDeleteI'm up for the Kielbasa Queen.
DeleteI hope that Kelli Johnson gets a show on 95.7 after getting release from NBC Bay Area Sports or is hired by NBC Bay Area to be KNTV’s sports anchor. Kelli knows sports 🏀 🏈⚾️🏒🎾
ReplyDeleteKelli would bring more personality than Kate Scott.
DeleteShe is very good
DeleteRich, why are you pickin' on Kate? She's a Christian girl, and everybody loves her. Well, just about everybody.
ReplyDeleteKate Scott + Amy G = Awful X 2
ReplyDeleteGets to work with a guy greg papa regretted hand picking and ditched without a heads up and another guy who works at a grocery store who is way too hyper and obnoxious
ReplyDeleteLOL. true
