Coney-Barrett: Piedmont Socialite or Possible SCOTUS Justice? De La Cruz Update; KTVU's Vacar Still Won't Retire; Bored 10 O' Clock News; Raj/Wang Just a Causual Lunch? I'm Sure; Wednesday Poppers

*I HEARD/SAW the Amy Coney-Barrrett SCOTUS confirmation hearings and was BORED like you. She reminds me of a Piedmont socialite about to host her first tea. The senators grilling her have ZERO chance to 86 her eventual judge gig but oh, what the hell, just another 2020 bizarre.

Amy Coney Barrett Should Refuse to Recuse - WSJ

KTVU NEWS: Veteran reporter, the cranky Tom Vacar, a science-minded TV kvetcher, looks more and more constipated each and every day. Fox knows this and would very much like Vacar to leave and is willing to offer him a buyout. The problem? Vacar still doesn't want to retire and go home. Furthermore, KTVU brass is afraid of going after him because Vacar is a lawyer and we know lawyers are scary.Tom Vacar
KPIX-TV mystery: Where is Veronica De La Cruz?

SHE'S STILL GONE (Veronica De La Cruz) --the latest is there is no latest. Her situation remains the same at 855 Battery: VDLC is officially OUT because she's dealing with another private medical issue (s) but we've been down this road before. Privately, those at PIX have again, sort of a resolve. There's not a lot of sympathy for her because she's had so much drama before. As I've indicated before, I wouldn't be surprised if she (VDLC) were a goner from the station --via either a buyout or mutual parting.

MEANWHILE...

MORE KTVU, the low energy 10 PM oasis called the nightly news has a once, well-oiled machine become a bastion of less-than-mediocre news gathering --someone, PLEASE!, Wake them up! Frank Somerville, the only anchor still in the studio, is minding the ship but he alone can't save this visual albatross. Julie Haener, broadcasting at home (because of Coronavirus status) looks and sounds BORED. Weatherman, Bill Martin, continues to MUMBLE and STUMBLE the forecast. Why is Martin still there? Because he has seniority and station brass can't send his ass to Toledo. And the latest? Sports anchor vet, Mark Ibanez, has returned to the studio (from Napa home) but in limbo: Ibanez wants one more contract -his deal is up in March and he's itching for a "sunset" deal. Even if Fox/KTVU gives Ibanez a re-up it'll be nowhere near the $325K a-year Ibanez is getting now. We'll see.

MEDIA POPPERS...

*That all-sports alleged FM radio outlet began its latest morning show on Monday with a GROAN and burn. You can't manufacture chemistry; that only happens through time. The Game has NO symmetry; it's just a hodgepodge of screaming and yelling --there is no direction, now or later.

*Someone tell Greg Papa that his propensity to alter his voice is completely BIZARRE and so ANNOYING! Why does Papa do this? Is he insecure? Does he do this to add more substance to his nauseating takes? I don't know but good lord, what a travesty. Could be Johnny Lund, his obnoxious sidekick, is causing frontal lobe irritation --Papa should be aware. And awake too.

*Dear Raj Mathai: Extra curricular activities at NBC Bay Area; are you the bad boy they keep telling me about? Maybe the NY gig was worth taking after all.

*Janelle Wang and Raj? OH MY! (Yeah, I'm sure it was just a casual lunch)
Raj Mathai on Twitter: "Showtime. Join us for #49ers pregame. @nbcbayarea @janellewang… "

*Proving you can cause the audience to have a collective vomit parade, The Game's Damon Bruce mentioned his kid yet again. Nobody begrudges Bruce' happy demeanor with regard to fatherhood but when you have to resort to using your kid as a prop? Gimme a break.

*I take a few days off and all hell breaks loose.

*If you feel depressed and jilted it could be worse: you could be kidnapped and tortured, how so? Forced to listen to the Ronn Owens Report.

*Or five minutes of Nikki Medoro on KGO in the morning.

  1. All that guy Shasky does on the 95.7 "Morning Roast" is shout. Can someone explain to him that there are other ways to communicate besides shouting. It's annoying.

    1. Rich and now you are the only two people I know of that actually listen to 95.7.

Damon Bruce? He hasn't been relevant in over a decade yet Rich feels the need to write about him often. It's crazy.

    2. He was working in a grocery store and was a listener who would call in, and someone got the idea to pair him at first with chris townsend..two over hyper guys who talk a mile a minute..he a native san franciscan which is a requirement on that station it seems

  2. Rich, remind us, did you criticize Papa's vocal inflections when he called Raider games?

    1. here's the deal...age discrimination statutes protect you if you are between 40 and 70.. So, if contract specifics are met, an older than 70 year old broadcaster has no "age discrimination" protections, per se. IF a contract is violated, they may have a breach case.

    2. Christine are you 100% sure about the 70 cap? I practice HR (Sr VP for a multi-national), I agree it was in the original law but I thought the cap was repealed during the Reagan/Bush/Clinton era?

    3. Oops , you are right...it's now 40+. Contracts typically would be single year or multi-year in broadcasting, with management factoring in age as an undetectable factor. The best plaintiff's case would be if they could show that they were replaced in the exact same job by someone younger who was paid less.

  5. So the tease was accurate: you're 'back' and you "said a few things." Wow, that was worth tuning in for. You posses all the specificity and usefulness of Donald Trump.

  7. RL, or anybody else, re: VDLC and news employees, in general; what might these "contracts" be like and how might they differ from a regular employee's employment deal? As an employee, e.g., there would be regular work days & hours; anything else might involve overtime; there might be holidays off &/or extra pay or vacation add-back for working a holiday; there would be vacation/sick/personal-paid-time off, limited to some type of formula as to how many hours. How might it work for a news anchor? Also, a regular employee might expect to work indefinitely until fired/layed off/death/retirement, but a news anchor seems to need renewal/renegotiation after (how long) some time period.

  8. Do you mean VDLC is officially OUT meaning she is no longer KPIX staff or on sick leave? Just move the weekend female anchor with Brian on weekdays and when she comes back, put her back in the streets like Kenny and learn what it means to be a reporter back to square one. So unprofessional slacking off using woman's rights in San Francisco/California to play hooky. If her son is this precious, be a writer or activist promoting how men needs to be financially responsible for running away from a pregnant relationship and that is VDLC.

  12. 95.7 The Lame. Retread radio for sure. Although the KNBR morning show is bad they at least get some good interview guests. 95.7 is nothing but hot "takes". Speaking of which I need to take a shit!

  16. KTVU 10 o’clock News really is deteriorating. Reporters doing stories from home is boring and we are forced see ugly home settings. Anchors at home are reading a teleprompter are not looking at the camera, ugh! Watching Bill Martin is torture! NBC Bay Area and ABC7 are upgrades from Fox,

  18. Re: VDLC... She's a single mom with a school aged child who's obviously needs her while he does distance learning!

It's no wonder all the female reporters in town want your head. You keep pushing this ridiculous narrative about her. Any single mom in her place will prioritize their kid before their job.

I'd be surprised if you post this since you've moderated 75% of my posts over the years.
