Looks Like 95.7 FM 'The Game' is About To Start a New Morning Show (Yawn)

95.7 The Game on Twitter: "🚨 BANG BANG NINER GANG🚨 @BontaHill ...

As it continues to slide into the abyss --its ratings continue to crater--word from a reliable broadcast source to me: 95.7 FM 'The Game, (All Sports) has a morning show missive: replace the current miscreants with a new duo: Bonta Hill and "Butcher Boy", Joe Shasky.

From 6-10 AM.

Do you care?

The source was skeptical about the anticipated change:

"They're essentially changing the orchestra on the Titanic."

Ouch.

  2. This is a simple fix: put Fox Sports Radio syndicated Dan Patrick 6-9am followed by Colin Cowherd 9am-Noon...

    1. The only thing about the nation shows is that they don't talk Bay Area sports. It's always about LeBron, the Lakers, the Cowboys, the Yankees, etc. Kind of gets tiring after 5-10 minutes.

    2. This is outright FALSE.

The morning show on 95.7 The Game is far better than what's happening at KNBR. Lorenzo Neal has come a long way and I think the show has great chemistry. The changes they're talking about are an all out mistake.

Bonta Hill is a passionate fan but he sounds more like a guy who you send out to events to interview people at an arena than a guy hosting a radio show. I am not sure who thought adding him with Papa was a good idea but I'm equally unsure who thinks making him a morning show host is a good idea. He is fine where he is but I think the "Guru" guy is a burden. He's the type of guy you put on at 10 PM by himself, to take calls.

Overall the station sounds a lot better than KNBR.

I don't think Damon is necessarily very good but he's not bad. Ray Ratto should not be on the radio. Matt Kolsky is good but he takes forever to make a point and often tries to sound like the smartest guy in the room.

Ryan Covay needs a better time slot for sure and Butcher Boy is also not equipped to carry a morning show. Covay would be a much better lead.

The idea of syndicating morning shows in major markets is the idea of a person who has no clue how to make money in media.

I've literally never heard anyone on The Game mention the Yankees. Lebron is a national brand based in California. I also never hear about the Cowboys but instead hear absurd level breakdowns of the Niners (never the Raiders).

Station has a weak signal. These changes you're mentioning will not make a difference. The shows they have right now are decent. Mornings are their best program by far.

    3. Ryan Covay is total D Bag. I guarantee you NO ONE wants to work with him PD's have yellow sticky notes with names of other hosts that won't work with him. He is a suburban white boy douche
And don't be surprised he wrote what it says either

    4. @12:24- Why do you say that? Covay seems like a cool guy. He has good chemistry with Butcher Boy, and it seems like the other hosts don't mind working with him when they fill in for Butcher Boy on their show, or when Ryan Covay fills in on the other shows.

    5. Otis, I say it because it is true. Hosts aren't going to rip the guy they are working with on air. The kid is a total D Bag Ask any one who has had the misfortune of knowing him.

  3. Rich,
Probably old news but noticed that Fortenbore is no longer on the 95.7 site and left for ESPN

    1. Yeah, I was surprised by that. I found out on Instagram. Looks like Fortenbaugh will be moving back to Vegas, and will be working for ESPN. Not sure if he will be doing ESPN radio, or maybe even get some TV hits. I guess we'll find out later.

Kind of weird how he just left, after having a good thing on the morning show on 95.7. Yes, it's hard to turn down ESPN, but still. He had a good rapport with Dibley and Lorenzo Neal, even though sometimes he would lose control of the show with Dibley and Lo Neal would get into heated discussions/debates.

Kind of not surprised Fortenbaugh moved back to Vegas. He's got a gambling jones, and he would always bring up his gambling stories in Vegas. Will probably be kind of different now that he has a family though, but I guess he will probably still wager on games.

  4. Cant think of two more SF "homers" made for each other .a supermarket "butcher" who rants, raves and cackles like a hyena and another guy who was paired with greg papa, and then was ditched without a phone call when papa realised his hand picked "partner" really, really suked

  5. Butcher Boy is a wannabe JT the Brick. Get back behind the counter, Shasky.

  6. That combination would be worse than Koz, Lo, and Dibs. Guess it's back to Armstrong & Getty.

  7. That would be cool to see Bonta and Butcher Boy team up. They already have good chemistry from working together in their Niners pre and postgame show on 95.7. I would be down for it. Too SF guys holding it down in mornings!

The only thing is, why not have them in the 10-2 timeslot? Bonta, Guru, and Butcher Boy have been good in that timeslot this week, and Butcher Boy if they do move him to another timeslot, would be good with Bonta and Guru. I would either get rid of Steinmetz, or maybe move him to another timeslot, maybe the mornings?

If Bonta and Butcher Boy get moved to the mornings, what happens to Dibley and Lorenzo Neal? I would assume they would probably get moved to the 10-2 timeslot with Guru and Steinmetz, or maybe there could be other changes. I guess we'll find out.

  8. Wasn't "butcher boy" just some regular caller to KNBR?

Here's an idea, lets dig up Salty Balty and give him a radio show!

Bonta looks like a token hire.

No Rich. I don't care. Nobody cares.

    1. Yes, Butcher Boy regularly called into the shows for many years on KNBR and 95.7, moreso 95.7 in recent years as they became more prominent. Damon Bruce was instrumental in getting Butcher Boy the gig on 95.7 it sounds like. I remember when Butcher Boy was hired and Damon Bruce talked about how he helped him get the job. Damon wasn't bragging, but he saw something in Butcher Boy and probably helped grease the skids for Butcher Boy to be an on-air talent there.

That's still pretty cool though I think. Even though Butcher Boy might not be everyone's cup of tea, and at times he can be an SF version of Zakariah (the guy who used to be on 95.7 with Guru on the weekends, but he was all about the A's and Raiders, and Cal sports) you got to like Butcher Boy's passion for the Giants, Warriors, and Niners. Yes, I'm a fan of those 3 teams as well, and I feel Butcher Boy's passion for those teams when they win, and his pain when those teams don't do well.

Regarding Bonta, what makes you feel he was a token hire? I think Bonta does a pretty good job and works hard. Not just anybody can work with Greg Papa, and Greg Papa probably saw something in Bonta, to have Bonta work with him for a few years. I remember back when Bonta used to be on KNBR on weekends working with Marty Lurie during baseball season, and doing videos for Yardbarker. He's really come a long way since.

Regarding Salty Balty, he sadly passed last year, but it would've been awesome if he would've gotten a show on KNBR or 95.7.
