Ouch.
A 1-0 July --yes, the so-called "beauty contest" ratings (the ad buyers don't purchase time off these ratings) is still, bad news, for the 810 AM News-Talk outlet. It's slow enough during a crazy summer 2020 but this survey underscores several troubling factors: KGO needs a bad infusion of re-structuring.
*Mark Thompson: 10-Noon: Turbulence --Thompson's numbers alone are staggering low!
*Nikki Medoro; The KGO "new" morning how (6-10 AM) is out of kilter --out of place. No one is listening and Medoro's continue to plummet.
*Pat Thurston: only bright spot from 12-3 --KGO pulse. She's keeping the light on.
*Chip Franklin: flatlining from 3-6 but strong in men, 25-54
*John Rothmann: an overall just OK from 6-9 PM but could use bolt and lightening
*DEVELOPING....
Maybe they could get those two guys on KSFO in the morning to switch to KGO and kickstart their day
ReplyDeleteThat station will never be the powerhouse it once was. I worked at that station when we used to get a 10 share. You'll never see that again either! It wasn't management that brought in those huge numbers. To me those numbers were low, we thrived to get even higher numbers, we were never satisfied! I remember one morning co-anchor used to fume because the numbers were so low. Management hired us because we knew what we were doing, the numbers just followed! It was a team effort; anchors, show hosts, EP's and producers. Whenever management tried to interfere, we would kick them out of the room. Today, you can't find an EP or show producer that's worth a damn, they're just morons touting the management line, following orders from managers who know less about programming and what it takes to keep the needle moving.
ReplyDeleteI can deliver pizza and make more money than KGO could ever pay. But KGO Radio too cheap to hire call screener(aka producer) so talk shows sound like chop suey.
DeleteI worked there too. The management hired the VERY BEST people and left them alone to do their jobs. Even Citadel did that. But then Cumulus came in, hired children, fired Pros, and destroyed the station. BECAUSE THEY COULD!

More than likely, 810 am will either be foreign language (not Spanish) or go dark.

ReplyDeleteDo they have a ratings breakdown for each talk-show host. Nikki Medoro needs to be removed ASAP. Ronnnn or even Ethan Bearman would pull in better ratings. KGO must need a younger, minority female on their line up for the appearance of diversity.
ReplyDeleteI think Pat's show suffered from them airing Newsoms daily briefing during her show. I certainly would change the channel rather than listen to basically the same thing over and over again.
ReplyDeleteThat is what radio stations do. I'm not a critic of Newsom, but the daily briefing was very tedious, unless you are into numbers. However, I either listen to Pat or Tom Sullivan on 1530 Sacramento, and they too carried the briefings as well. KSFO did not.

Rothmann: Entertaining to listen to him disembowel trumpkins, his incessant cough is irritating, his corny jokes are cringe worthy..good until 8pm when he takes it down a notch.

But it all pales in comparison to 1077 The Bone's "Dickin w/ Telemarketers" and "Sting of the Day", prank phone calls that are intolerable juvenile dreck, to be kind.
