IN HIS PRIVATE JET NO LESS...Lauer has a mansion in Tiburon (as I reported recently) and took a drive into the city and had lunch with a charming female friend, at the Balboa Café.
Herb Caen would have been amused.
Lauer has been looking around the landscape for a new gig --ideally, my buds say, he'd be reporting for, say, CNBC, from a bayside studio in the morning, but his NBC warts are too enormous --would a third-tier cable network take a chance on the suddenly busy Lauer? Oh heck yes!
There is some new news network launching September 1st on WGN. They ran commercials this morning I believe on KRON. "No opinions, just facts". "The way media should be", etc. Millions invested in this startup.

CNBC is a third tier cable station.
