KTVU Cuts Dictated by Fox NFL Fooball Revenue

KTVU Fox 2 - Trash talk with Milwaukee | Facebook

MOST SIGNIFICANTLY ...like other Fox O and O stations, KTVU derives a significant amount o revenue from FOX's affiliation with the NFL, specifically its NFC coverage. The 49ers here; the Bay Area's most popular sports franchise is part of the NFC and KTVU makes a boatload of money on the 49ers with pre and post-game coverage.

Therefore, with un certainty facing the 2020 NFL season (for now) and the prospect of an abbreviated season (at best) and a cancellation (at worst) people at KTVU and Fox are freaking out, dictating cuts and outright dismissals.

"It would really hurt us," said a KTVU source to me. "Wait, it would kill us," the source continued.

Sports anchor, Scott Reiss has already been let go and there's more coming.

KTVU makes millions off NFL football. And it's those millions that help stations pay for its non-news revenue and sets budgetary numbers for the coming fall and winter. Without football or a radically different product (like no fans in stands) the money is slimmer and cuts begin.

They have.

  1. Maybe you meant 'pay for its non-news expenses...' rather than 'pay...for revenue...'?
