Kristine Hanson |
ONE OF THE WORST-KEPT SECRETS IN THE MID -1980's: 49ers coach, Bill Walsh relationship with TV Weather forecaster, Kristine Hanson --an extra-marital affair that accelerated Walsh's break-up with his wife.
Hanson not only did weather in Sacramento (and here at KTVU); she also posed for Playboy Magazine in 1974 and was quite the party lady in her prime. I got to meet with her when I was at K-101 radio, a real nice woman and yes, quite beautiful and smart. She supposedly was really in love with Walsh only he was married at the time.
Today, Hanson is a weather forecaster at the KTXL (Fox-40) station in Sacramento. She's been there almost 17 years.
Walsh, one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, died in 2007 after battling cancer.
Bill Walsh |
I still to this day don't understand why the sports press in the Bay Area went to great length to keep this story secret.
Well, I do know why. Walsh was a good man and the writers loved him. I don't think this would have been so easy a task today.
"Good man" you say. Good men don't have a affairs on their wives. You think he was a good man because he was nice to you.
ReplyDeleteRemember it takes 2 to fuck up a marriage!
Delete@5:14 Right, maybe his wife was too exhausted for sex from cleaning the house, cooking the meals, raising the children, attending the required social activities as the wife of a major league coach's wife, yada, yada, yada. What the heck, it's always the wife's faulty. Right? So, he didn't really have a choice ... he had to get it somewhere else. Right?
Delete12:18 Not once did i ever place blame on one over the other. In reality the serious $$$ they were both were bringing in I'm pretty sure she didn't have to toil in domestic duties. also sure she got a big payday in the divorce. Neither Bill or Kristine had any respect for the others relationship status. So i stand by what i said earlier. You obliviously have some anger management issues and have been hurt deeply by a cheating spouse. I suggest you either get over it move on or see a therapist. Good day to you nut job.
DeleteI had heard about the rumors back then and that there had been marital strain. Why bring them up now?
ReplyDeleteI love my wife but if she threw her “stuff” at me, wow
ReplyDeleteBTW, Kristine is one hell of a lot better looking and more humble than Christine Craft, whom I believe (based on her personality) makes Roseanne Barr look good
ReplyDeleteOMG, don’t mention Kristine and Christine in the same breath, Craft is dumpster stuff
DeleteLeave Christine alone. She knows all of this, don't pile on
Deletecharacter flaw for both...wanna dabble with someone not your spouse.?? tell spouse truth, disconnect....proceed. Otherwise, your character is lacking.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. And, it is everybody's business. They are breaking their marriage vows, cheating ... demonstrating a despicable weakness as human beings, and a massive and disturbing character flaw. They're cheating, not just on their wives, but on their children, as well. For what? A brief romp in the hay? They'll go to their grave with nothing but a few sorry memories of themselves as pathetic losers, because that is all that they will have left of it.
DeleteIt's every bit child abuse just as if they were beating their children. One day their children will find out that their father cheated on their mother, and his stature in their children's eyes will be forever diminished. Little girls think their daddy's are Superman. Do they really want to tarnish that admiration by having sex with a tramp? Think about that when the temptation presents itself and resolve to abstain to keep the respect the children have in a man who loved their mother. If not, get a divorce first like an adult, a responsible parent, a decent human being, someone who doesn't want to leave wrecked lives behind.
I had seen this lovely couple at a Deli in Menlo Park.
ReplyDeleteI just google her pictures and another Stormy Daniels. Good job for dumping her first wife, when wives get older, man is on the run like Frank KTVU finding young love but money needs to pay up.
ReplyDeleteAnother BS blurb from Lieberman. This never happened. If you have proof, bring it bub.
ReplyDeleteOver the decades, I've seen Hanson do weather, sports, and other reporting for KTVU, KRON, KGO, multiple Sacramento stations, some radio stations (that I don't recall), and even KFTY in Santa Rosa. She may have even been at PIX, at one time; I lost track. I can't think of another on-air person in this market, like Hanson, who has seemingly "worked everywhere."
ReplyDeleteShe certainly is comely, and her delivery and reporting has been consistently solid throughout her career.
Bill Walsh had a son that died of aids, why do we never hear about that?
ReplyDeleteWhy was this "affair" kept a secret? Because it was more extreme flirtation that NFL writers, local and national, lapped up like a dog at a water dish. And did Bill and his wife Geri break up for awhile because of it? Yes, but they never did file for divorce. Finally, son Steve, a former news anchor, did die in 2002, but according to reports, of a lengthy illness, never saying it was AIDS.
ReplyDeleteTime to catch up with Kristine Hanson's career profile. 17 years at KTXL; wow. I assume Hanson still speaks as smooth as ever, unlike another FOX weather anchor, who I am surprised, is not part of the cuts at his station West on I-80.
Hanson worked at only two Bay stations - KTVU for just a few months in 2011, and KGO-TV, 1989-2006. Resides in Tahoe City, anchoring weather for KTXL Fox Sacramento from her home there during the pandemic, and also anchors weather for Santa Rosa's KRTY Radio from her Tahoe home. And is still breathtaking after all these years. Respected by her journalism peers both in the Bay Area and at Sac.

DeleteAnd the above link is not a complete list, as she also worked at KFTY Santa Rosa in the '90s (doing weather, sports, and on-site reporting for events like their local Rose Parade). Her media career in NorCal actually dates back to the '70s.
She certainly looked good in Playboy... as did all the "girls"!! 😎
ReplyDeleteI was thirty when KPIX hired me to do weather/reporting in 1975. Kristine Hanson was doing weather at KRON then. I'm 75. I think it's great that one, similarly aged female, is still on TV. IN the olden days, not so long ago, a woman's tenure on television ended at 40. We both had encounters at Playboy. She said "yes". I said "no thank you", though I was very flattered.
ReplyDeleteBS Christine
DeleteChristine,
DeleteThanks for that account. Do you recall Kristine working at KGO in the '70s, as well?
I don't know, because I left SF for CBS in NYC in 1976. Since Rich won't post my pinup pic...just go to my fb page Christine Craft(Auntie Christine) for a pinup pic from the era when I said "nay" to Playboy.
DeleteBill Walsh is “only” a great coach!
ReplyDeleteA…… would be much better.
I sent his wife flowers when she left Walsh. None of the news papers publish that. Hmmmmmm
Walsh want to off and on field. I
overheard Walsh telling a teammate “
we need to control him.
There’s an issue! That comment “we need to control him”. That came from the VP of the 49ers at that time. I was contacted by the VP after he got the message from Walsh. George Allen yes The George Allen and Paul Horning (yes the Hall of Fame Paul Horning) praised this “Rookie” LB. The only “bright spot” on San Francisco’s defense, was this rookie.
It was so “ strange “ the way he was acting towards his player. O.J. Simpson actually said something encouraging to this player right in the middle of Walsh’s TANTRUM. O.J. Quote: Let him play his game. Fuck Him …….keep playing your game! O.J. was so loud that cheerleaders, and fans sitting behind us could hear him. O. J. was upset. This linebacker just sacked the quarterback. But Walsh yells at him on the sideline for blitzing instead of going into coverage. But you sacked the quarterback…what the hell. We got the ball back for the offense. NOW whats really stretchy about what OJ did. He and his linebacker did not get along. I won’t go in the details but this rookie body slammed O.J. and got three below in before they pulled him of of O.J. 10-15 minutes. Then here O.J. screaming…get him off, get him off, get him off.
It must be something serious here going on for O.J. to stand up for this player. yelling at your head coach and on televised game. They would not speak to each other at practice, they would not speak to each other in the locker room. OJ is a very proud human being. He likes the spotlight on him. He wants all the attention. For the media, players and definitely in the fans. this is not a good look for O.J. this Incident was embarrassing for O.J.
