KNBR Stands to Lose $10 Million if No Giants' Baseball; Rothmann/KGO Saturday Night as Atlanta Rioted

IF there's no Major League Baseball in 2020, a very distinct possibility, KNBR stands to lose more than $10 million bucks. That's a lot to chew on as you consume your breakfast this Sunday morn.

KNBR, owned by Cumulus, is the flagship radio station for the  SF Giants. KNBR/Cumulus owns roughly5 percent of the team.

The Giants in particular and baseball in general subsidizes the heart of KNBR's programming, mainly its talk-show segments. While some of the talk programming is popular, it's the baseball that drives the car and makes the station power. Even if there's a shortened baseball season, there's no way KNBR will see any black ink this year which is a difficult omen for the rest of 2020, welcome to the doomsday club, knibber.

*Saturday Night was a breaking news haven and fortunately, KGO Radio, had John Rothmann in the studio from 5-8 PM. The big news was the latest police-Black male encounter--an incident that took place on Friday night in Atlanta had video surveillance make the airwaves: an Atlanta police officer shot and killed a Black man at a local Wendy's (details to come)

As Rothmann began his Saturday night show, Atlanta was awash in riots and its southwest corridor fraught with demonstrators and fires, including the Wendy's where the latest murder took place.

  1. It's probably ill-advised to get high, pull up in the drive through lane, go to sleep and block all other customers, and when cops are rightly called, fail the sobriety test and then assault the cops, resist arrest, grab a taser, run, turn mid run and aim at cops and fire...hmm?

    1. Just as it is probably equally ill-advised to lean on and place a knee on a man's neck, squeezing the carotid artery, thus cutting off the supply of blood to the brain, thus "bleeding" him dry until there is nothing left. Come to think of it, why didn't those looters we saw on CNN and MSNBC "loot" in the traditional way...you know, take over a company in the hostile way, fire 90% of the employees, bring them back as independent contractors, monetize the company's remaining assets and bleed it dry until there is nothing left. Just a thought.

    2. Don't you have porn to consume "Ron"?

  2. Two completely different scenarios "Ron". One was complying with law enforcement and the other was not. Pretty cut and dry. Maybe he shouldn't have been shot but maybe he also shouldn't have tried to evade the cops after taking one of their weapons. Just saying...

  4. This crazy crap will just get Trump re-elected. Too bad. Dems always find a way to fuck it up. And, what the hell were the dems thinking kneeling, wearing those scarves. That and cities burning and being looted will be all over the air waves in repulican ads this fall.

  5. I sincerely believe that John Rothmann would be content to sleep in a cot at the KGO radio station. He assures us that there's no place he'd rather be. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time saying (mostly) the right things. For breaking news, there's no one better. And for political commentary and popular culture he's even better than THAT! I am so glad he's back.
