KGO has a plan that will impact its weekend news and an ambitious one at that:
It is a two-pronged effort that is long in vision but short on tactics: Combining anchors Dion Lim and JR Stone into a 1-2 punch for its Saturday/Sunday news slot and maybe something more down the road, I've learned.
First things first though and that involves the nearing-sunset (career wise) Eric Thomas who, as I've reported here, would love a buyout from ABC although it won't be as easy as first thought.
Thomas has been at KGO for years and is ready to split TV News but his price might be too high; then again, he's earned all his stripes and with deep-pockets Disney, there's a good chance they will accommodate him with a golden parachute.
That would pave the way for JR Stone and Lim to become the dynamic duo KGO feels they are primed for and I agree, in today's environment especially. I'm not that high on Stone as you read and I'm semi-perplexed on Lim but she's much better now than in early days and she's vastly improved. Plus, Stone is able on the air for this combo and should make for an exciting and solid duo. ABC7 sure hopes so because they're investing much money and resources on this project. More than you think.

Rich,
ReplyDeleteYou never answered my question yesterday regarding Vic Lee. He retired in January 2020 but I still see him now and then doing reports for KGO (ABC7). Is he working part time and how much is he getting paid???
Yes he's working part-time, sort of a reporter emeritus, that's the deal.
ReplyDeletePay: probably scale.
Will they be known as, Limestone???
ReplyDeleteWhat connection does J.R. have to get a job at KGO 7? So many KRON 4 reporters not hired by KGO except J.R.
ReplyDeleteIt is possible that Lim & Stone can make each other better on the air. Lim has a decent work ethic, helped by her working alongside Sze on occasion. And Lim seems detail-oriented, so if she finds Stone too dull-sounding, she might encourage him to improve his vocal tone some.
ReplyDeleteKristen is not helping any of her co-workers. Sze is toxic in the newsroom
DeleteI agree with your comment that Dion has improved over her early days. No more sucking for breath after every few words...AND...she’s nice to look at — who cares what she's saying.
ReplyDeleteDion is the Bo Jackson of today's tv news. She does it all!
ReplyDelete*Her storytelling in her reporting is exceptional
*Social Media game is on point
*Presents herself very professional and still fun and energetic
Most importantly, she's a true role model for my daughters!
Wow, talk about low expectations! You really should encourage much better from your daughters.
DeleteThose girls are headed down a slippery slope....
