The Mystery Within the Mystery: More Drama from KPIX Anchor Veronica De La Cruz.

The "mystery" is no more. At least when you discover the principle player in this yarn, is weighing all her options, albeit it painfully slow.

Veronica De La Cruz has been off the KPIX anchor chair for well over six weeks now.

It's not just myself hat is wondering what is going on.

Her status at the station has been often MIAish, like where is she?

I reported recently that De La Cruz had contracted the Coronavirus and that she was recovering and told friends she'd be back in a few weeks or so and that she was rebuilding her strength and stamina. De La Cruz took an official medical leave from the station.

In her six years at KPIX, she's dealt with a ton of issues, mostly personal --including this latest one which is now shaping up to one of the most gigantic. It's a major conflict and it's no doubt weighing on De La Cruz's mindset.

Did she inform the station of her situation? Was CBS (PIX) aware of her ailment? Has she informed them of her current status? All reasonable questions but questions that seem not answered. At least by the suits and it's partly due to medical privacy laws. But there's other major elements here.

De La Cruz might be deliberatively playing coy. She's under contract for less than a year. Her future may be in doubt, at least at PIX. CBS paid her a lot of money to come out from NY to settle in the Bay Area and it's been a relative poor investment. De La Cruz is one of KPIX's star anchors but she hasn't exactly moved the needle amidst heavy-duty promotion from both the station and network. A settlement and/or buyout would not shock me --but that might be off the table for now.

CBS could very well be considering that moving De La Cruz would be a bad look. After all, she'd survive the virus and was rewarded with a dismissal. Bad optics. Which I'm guessing is at least partly what De La Cruz is thinking. Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe, as a source told me, she wants to leave the market and go back east where she might feel more comfortable and start a new life, personal and professional although she has a young child and is dealing with family issues. There's a lot to ponder.

We should know what's happening any day now only in this story, expect the unexpected.

  2. Thanks for the update. Seems there is always something chaotic going on with Disaster La Cruz.

  3. People who watch local newscasts don't know or care about any of this. Agree with the previous comment: VDLC is somehow a thing on this blog, but literally nowhere else.

  4. From a business perspective, regardless of an employee's health, I believe if a contract is due for renewal, don't renew just because of the employee's health. A person has protection to continue or maintain existing health care even when leaving an employer.

    If the employee is good/valuable/well-thought-of, then do consider renewing.

    Perhaps someone knowledgeable in the TV-entertainment-news industry can better expound how it works in a contracted employee-employer limited term contract, regarding:
    How does it differ from being any other hourly or salaried employee;
    Is it merely to able to renegotiate salary at the end of a contract;
    What might be usual terms or clauses in such a contract such as employment length; benefits; termination of contract by either side; any other differences from being a regular employee, either in a TV station or any other particular industry?

  7. One of the worst reporter showing no love and professionalism as a main reporter. KPIX worst decision hiring her from DAY 1 and makes me wonder did she know someone or had some connections. She already have personal children issues bringing it along to Bay Area. Worst part, one reporter never shows up on the Asiana airplane, warehouse fire and Covid-19. She is just trying to play games like Natasha and the only way KPIX can get rid of her is she quits. She can sued the station not renewing her contract except she can fight back claiming discrimination. Really, working for 6 years and only show up for 4 1/2 years getting paid. KPIX get rid of her.

  8. Once again...A large part of a woman's beauty is her sexuality. VDLC's blue dress exemplifies her beauty perfectly. If she were to wear that dress on her first day back, she would be well received.

    The Women Are The News...Veronica.

    1. Only way she will stand out in a blue dress is if she covers her head with it. Then you would be right that she would be well received.

    2. She's ASIAN ... let me rephrase that, for you slow learners ... she is A-S-I-A-N and she's HOTT as all EFF....

  9. VDLC & PIX working out a transfer to another CBS affiliate back east? With Elizabeth Cook taking care of business, and Juliette Goodrich, Maria Medina, or Betty Yu occasionally filling in when Cook needs a day or week off, might as well work out a VDLC transfer settlement.
