Ask Rich Lieberman Just About Anything

NBC Bay Area « San Francisco Citizen

THE DAYS SEEM LIKE EVERY OTHER DAY NOW--I'M SURE YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY

Time to sip some extra coffee, (or maybe something with more bite) and fire away all your media questions whether it be Coronavirus pandemic coverage or? Wait a minute, that's the only subject matter that's being talked about.

Please, name and city/town. You know the drill.

  1. What nationality is Ama Daetz of KGO Channel 7?

Also, she had a baby about 2 years ago...so who is babysitting her baby as she works every week day evening news?

    1. Ama is Black with a German name, maybe a military connection...she has a nanny I'm sure she can afford one.

    2. Ama is half Black, half Caucasian. Her father was a history and economics teacher at Saratoga HS in the South Bay. I had his class in the 80's.

  2. Do the ratings show that people have tuned out on the news both radio and TV? Have people moved to animal planet, music etc to excape.

    1. BOTH? Yes, only I think more streaming sites like Amazon Prime, Hula, HBO Plus, Netflix... I don't know if Animal Planet is up there...CNN, FoxNC and MsNBC probably will have record ratings because those that want CVirus info are watching cable news.

  3. Which media personality do you think is doing the best job working from home? I like Kris Sanchez on nbc Bay Area.

    1. Not anyone in particular which might give you an indication of my feelings overall about local coverage. I like Anderson Cooper on CN who is always solid in my book home or in-studio.

  4. With Sierra now at Circle7, once the pandemic is contained some, does this mean retirement for Noyes afterwards or is Woodrow about to go?

    1. Noyes is going nowhere I think this is just an addition to the ITeam...as for Woodrow, she doesn't impress me so whatever happens, happens there, I won't shed a tear.

  5. I have donated to both Media 411 and The Athletic. They are the only 2 one line media groups that pay for or donated to. I enjoy reading the Athletic and give a low mark for the media guy who copies your posts. What is your view of The Athletic? They have broke several news items.

Do you know if Gary Radnich still washes Larry Baer’s car every Saturday, or did he also lose that job. I have heard that he is currently getting screwed.

    1. Tom, you just reminded me I should write a new column about the usual suspects. Thanks.

  7. Have you seen Paul Heggen's on-air work yet? If so, what do you think?

  9. I feel like KNBr made changes to every program to accommodate Papa, but the ratings haven’t been great. Just okay. Is there any talk at KNBR about the possibility that Papa was a mistake? Thank you

    ReplyDelete
  10. No, not at all. If there's a mistake, it's placing John Lund next to him. Papa likes Lund but he's not a hit with listeners which I think is the reason why The Game's hosts are beating Papa and Lund.

  11. Has anyone put out a Yenta Alert for Bonnie Jill recently? And for that matter, Ted Dansen too

  13. I recently contributed via PayPal you can keep up your good work. My two part question is this - who is producing Nikki’s show and when are they going to straighten out that program?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thanks Kevin.
John Daley is Nikki's producer. He was the producer for the late Gene Burns. As for the morning program, they will let it take its coarse. The show is still less than mediocre --it needs plenty of work. Time will tell.

  15. Rich, I agree with your recent opinion that traffic and sports segments should be reduced or eliminated altogether, but aren't they sponsored?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, some are, so what? You can move the sponsor money around, a "make good"--we're dealing with a severe pandemic, I'm sure there's contingencies in all advertising agreements, including radio and TV.

    1. Craig, I'll assume the premise of your question is tongue-in-cheek, that said, Cheryl Hurd, under any circumstances.

  17. Rich, I think that you wrote that your father was a musician in the Bay Area. Did he know Dave Brubeck or Vince Guaraldi or the SF comedians like Mort Sahl (still working) and Phyllis Diller? Any others?

    ReplyDelete
  18. He played with Brubeck one time at the Venetian Room. Also had many stints with Del Courtney and Count Basie in the city. Jack Buck too, the drummer who was from Oakland. Dad wasn't famous but he played with a lot of famous bandleaders.

  19. Rich, the Gate (and I assume the Chron) has a story about the reporter in the Adachi fiasco getting a settlement from the City due to its raid on him. Any idea when the "truth", such as it will be allowed, might be published?
