MONDAY ROUND-UP

Are you awake at the office?

Welcome back to normal life after America's three week vacation where everything is shut down except Christmas music and miserable folks spending overnights in front of a Best Buy to purchase 59 dollar TV sets and get in melees if some slob cuts in front of the line.

SOME THINGS ARE STILL THE SAME in 2020...

KRON is still KRON; the KTEL station is somehow alive with a narrow-minded ND who loves to yell and scream even if there's sunshine amid the clouds and KRON is a veritable high-pressure system with storms brewing...

KPIX has a wealth of morale issues morning midday and night with professional snitches and all-around suspicion invading the newsroom. If the powers that be were as fascinated with ratings as they are with staffers, they would be eternally happy and not overwrought with bitching and moaning. Then again, PIX is basically KRON with deep pockets. CBS, though, is fixin' to make change with its Bay Area O and O.

KGO Radio deserves props, namely, Lee Hammer for showing news-talk commitment to even the weekend --a BIG foreign policy deal: Iran and US following the take-out of its thuggish defense general (what an oxymoron) --I'm not a Trump guy but maybe the hit was worth it--anyway, KGO seems to be in election gear and that's good news for news-talk addicts. Paging Rothmann, Thurston and Kelly.

Speaking of Chip Franklin, there's nothing better than Chip and Nickki Medoro from 4-7 PM weekdays--it's become a whole lot better and I should know, having slammed the dynamic duo for years, I'm a firm believer now. Yes, it can get scatter-brained at times, but so can I, what the hell, it's free too.

The diamond commercial on radio never ends.

KCBS with more crappy anchors named Latteri and Culross. Or rather, Cul....ross.

Entercom is about to lay off a huge part of its FM all-sports station, no game there.

I love traffic anchors who say on the air why am I here when there's no traffic. I agree.

Susan Leigh Taylor would be passable if she just didn't ask questions on KCBS as if she were talking to third-graders.

Rothmann and Thurston are good and solid --moreover, really live and local. (What an insipid line)

The Radnich-KGO-TV bromance is not dead. Yet. A new year helps. As always, money is the main issue.

Does Jeffrey Schaub have pictures?

That overnight traffic guy is really horrible, but what do I know? Apparently, Don Bastida loves him.

Dear Mickey Luckoff: you were right, Ronnnnnnn is a bigger asswipe than you.

2020, love is in the air.

  1. False. Chip and his sidekick Rosie Perez are low-IQ terrible radio.

Love the rest of your post today, Rich!

  2. - If Telemundo wants a more global presence By The Bay, then they should raise the stakes in pursuit of KRON.
    - Don't know how much Liz Cook's inevitable return from maternity leave will help, but it can't hurt PIX. Temporary ease here.
    - Bolton's willingness to call out the White Evangelical False Prophet-in-Chief alone should bolster KGO Radio. He may be a conservative's conservative, but cult-like followings? Bolton wants none of that.
    - Bling ain't my thing. Diamond ads muted all the time.
    - Does Culross still have power at KCBS, even with Entercom cutting costs and quality?
    - I choose Disney over The Bentley every time. At least Disney has decent programming on ABC and a whole lot of high quality movie series. The Bentley? Past his prime and not worth alienating Ashley & Finney.
    - May the Leap Year put this Lowenstein out of his misery.

  3. "CBS is fixing to change it's O and O!"

I know you told us before, Rich, but what is O & O?
I'm trying to keep up with the class.

  4. No Game eh? Wonder what that does to that recent multi-year deal signed with the Warriors?

  5. Do you know any successful Talk Show Hosts got so bored with doing their own shows, they sabotaged their own ratings just to break a contract? You can tell me. I won't say a word!

  6. Why...or how...is Peter Finch doing late night traffic on both KCBS and KQED?
Now he sounds like he just blew out a bong hit on 2 stations.

    1. The worst is the Handlery guy.

Has anyone told this guy he is not funny and actually quite annoying? And that absolutely no-one enjoys his commercials?
