Local TV/Radio Media Zero Representation at Kaepernick Workout

Kaepernick in home market (SF) gets relatively ZERO coverage (workout) on local radio talk shows; big suits don't want hosts to talk about it because, "it's too complex and non-sports, lots of people don't get it. Why look for trouble." --a source to 415 Media: "they were almost warned, 'stay away from this.'"

*Not one TV sports rep made trip to Atlanta on Saturday to provide coverage of workout. Instead merely picked up wire reports and outside reporting even though Kap story is HUGE and international story.

*Kap agent sent out internal memo to all Bay Area outlets (including changed location) --I'm told Kaepernick was open to interviews for both radio/TV outlets but that no one showed up.

*Local TV reaction: mum's the word.

*"deny, deny, deny" seems operative policy. Even the Chronicle is muted.

*Developing...

  1. The 49ers have a QB and they don't need Kaepernick. He's nothing but a sideshow.

  2. PIX and the new CBSN Bay Area ran previews and reactions on repeat.

  3. " ... merely picked up wire reports and outside reporting ...' I don't know why they even bothered with that. I question why they give him two minutes of air time ... he's a disgrace to the sport and his race. Misguided and needs to direct his social justice warrior tendencies somewhere where they'll do some good. He could volunteer with the very children who are deprived of any sort of attention and go awry of the police. But, instead, he's disrespectful and only makes a spectacle of himself. No game, all shame ... and childish.

    1. To which of his races is he a disgrace? His genetic mother is white. His genetic father was black. Daddy left early and never returned. His adoptive parents are white. He had a great arm and may still, but he never had the tactical brain to make a great QB. When he was pouting on the niners' bench, they were desperately trying to trade him. He didn't think of the more respectful kneeling form of protest, until a veteran schooled him on it. Currently he pimps products for a company which uses slave labor in third world countries to make those products. It's one thing to have a legitimate point of view about incidences of racist policing, it's quite another to market that angst as evidence that you "deserve" a job as a starting or backup QB with anyone. This recent stunt couldn't be just a simple, genuine tryout, it had to be a stage for further martyrdom. Those who did report on his actual performance described the passes as strong, but not particularly accurate. It's a perfect topic for talk radio, actually.

    2. Once again Christine knocks it out of the park. Or should I say for this story knocked it straight through the goal posts.

    3. What a surprise; a spot-on, honest assessment of the failed QB and his farcical campaign. Didn't expect that.

  4. Nothing to "develop". And you're wrong, almost all of the KNBR shows discussed it, even with guests. Everyone sees it for what it is, a dog and pony show.

And for once, Stephen A. Smith was absolutely correct on the situation.

  5. Kaepernick is about as newsworthy as the Kardashians. Who cares.

  6. Kaepernick: Yesterday's very old, very finished news.

  7. Nobody gives a shit about irrelevant Kap.

  8. Thank god! It's about time the media stopped covering any news related to this race baiting garbage bag.

  9. Tuesday's Outside the Lines on ESPN revealed that:
    1) The NFL put this together on Tuesday with no advance notice to Kaepernick
    2) They were going to shut out the media, leaving the NFL in control of the narrative
    3) The NFL was requiring way more than the standard waiver a player on a tryout signs. Terms were onerous.

I'm not a Kaepernick fan, but even I see an ambush here.

Too bad nobody local was there -- it took two days for the details to emerge with a national broadcaster.

    1. It was also revealed that:
4)Kap was wearing a Kunta Kinte tshirt. Can he ever not race bait?
5)He wanted Nike cameras to film everything. Super Bowl commercial in 3..2..1..
6)25 teams show up. He changes the venue not Tuesday when he found out about it, not Wednesday, not Thursday, not Friday but 3 hours before it's scheduled to start on Saturday with 25 teams in attendance. 8 teams barely make the new venue in time.

I'm not a Kaepernick fan, but I see self serving bullshit here. Don't believe the hype.

    2. 4) Yeah, this is a race issue ...
      5) entirely logical if you don't want the NFL controlling the narrative
      6) The extraordinary waiver was brought up late by the NFL ... don't blame CK about the timing

  10. Once again...There is a very fine line between exercising your personal and political beliefs, and shooting yourself in the foot.

He has shot himself in the foot, and the wound will never heal, it will fester for his entire life, just like Jane Hanoi Fonda and Kathy Griffin.

He had everything the World has to offer in the palm of his hand, and threw it all away, just like OJ. His reasoning defies human reasoning. And what did he accomplish, nothing!!

NFL...National Football League. After watching football all day Sunday I have a new name, NFFL...National Flag Football League. Way too many flags, let them play football!!

  11. Kaepernick is a crybaby punk who continues to get just what he deserves.

  12. Kraponstick has no 'home' market, and even if he did join a team, he will never play for the 49ers again. Now, enough of Mr. Angela Davis Hair.

  13. I'm amazed at all the racist comments thus far. Rich, you sure do have a lot of white supremacist dirt bag pieces-of-shit reading your blog. Undoubtedly, they are also the same sorts of traitorous offal who support the current corrupt and criminal president. Same mindset.

    1. No dude - he dug his OWN grave. Has everything to do with attitude.

  14. Rich - Nobody cares anymore. People are tired of this story. The media is the only reason why it is still alive. The social justice warriors (the vocal minority) will not let it die. The majority of us just don't care anymore. It's old, tired, and has run its course.

  15. Defensive coordinators figured out how easy he was to be thrown off his game. He became a terrible QB after that. Then he made a stand that turned off many people. It's over Kap. Accept it.

  16. The two sides are really having two different arguments. Kap thinks this is a social/race issue while the NFL sees this as a money issue. Pro football is willing to excuse a lot of bad behavior, but when the protests caused a 17% drop in TV ratings (i.e. $1.5B annual value of the current contract), Kap as the face of the protests had to go. It is Kap's argument with the NFL's customers that is over societal/race issues. He would have been better served to make nice with his employer while continuing his crusades outside of the work place.

  17. Why? Rich - in case you didnt notice - Kaepernik SABOTAGED this farce, by pulling the old switcheroo at the 11th hour. From almost 24 scouts / Teams Represented, to 7. What does that tell you? HE DOESNT WANT TO PLAY FOOTBALL. He wanted to be on TV and make a statement. The shirt he was wearing said it all. "Look at me! I'm disrespected!". Hey Kaep - FUCK YOU, and anyone who is "advising" you.

  18. When you are interviewing for a job...they will tell you where to meet them and what time. You don't tell them where to meet you and what time. I wish Kaepernick good luck.

  19. We saw Kap devolve when he was the 49ers. He has a strong throwing arm, but . . . He threw scud passes into the ground. He couldn't run through his check downs with his receivers. He wouldn't stay in the pocket. He would panic and run. He had no touch or accuracy on his passes. He was a punk at the podium after games. Wow, everything one would want in a quarterback. Not.
