ABC7 Commits Five Minutes to Bay Area Homeless Crisis on 4 PM Newscast

Who says a 4 PM newscast is uneventful, sort of.

On Wednesday, I committed twenty minutes of my time to watch KGO's Dan Ashley and Ama Daetz do a solid 5 minutes on the homeless crisis in Bay Area; an in-studio guest no less and a good chunk of TV time. If not the most exciting subject matter, it was at least sadly compelling and gloomy to watch.

I give ABC7 credit for airing such a matter; too bad hardly anyone watches the 4 PM newscast, a sort of TV News "Death Valley" time slot.

  1. Rich, surely you and Dan and Ama must have spare rooms, or at least spare couches? Does compassion stop at your doorsteps?

    1. Jesus is coming back with a big can of whup ass with your name on it, Anony. Have you ever done anything? anything at all to help a homeless person? a blanket? a meal, a couple of bucks? It could never happen to you, right?

  2. I hear Santa Cruz just removed benches from bus stops to solve homeless/bus rider conflicts. Doesn't seem like an actual solution, just sweeping the problem under the rug. Meanwhile elderly grandmas out to buy some groceries have no place to sit while waiting for the bus. Serious conflicts w/the homeless and the taxpaying public are becoming more and more evident. Pretty clear some new thinking is required in the city halls.

  3. Too bad real news is relegated to the 4pm newscast. The prime slots are saved for the latest Apple device debut, as a millionaire techster tells you how the new phone lets you take pictures up the skirts of women more easily.

  4. There are a number of seniors who enjoy watching the 4 p.m. news before their 5 p.m. dinner. It gives them something to discuss during dinner and after dinner they retire to their rooms or go play bingo. I have friend who works at a senior center who shared this with me.

    1. I'm so glad I play Fantasy Baseball/Football/Basketball (I've been playing since 1988). I'm now 63. When I retire and get too senile, you won't find me playing f*cking bingo. Nope--I'll be busy playing fantasy sports...and kicking the a*ses of younger guys!

I'll squeeze this into golf, surfing, and playing basketball--three things which I still do today.

      EFF Bing and 4pm dinners!

  6. Did they mention that the homeless problem is squarely on the shoulders of the useless liberal government in SF and the state? Any city dominated by liberals is either a shithole or on its way to becoming one. And the useful idiots keep voting them in.

    1. There's no single entity to blame for homeless problem. There's a triad of problems to blame: First, lack of access to good mental health treatment; Second, the lack of concern from homeless folk themselves; Third is the rapid rise in income inequality the USA has been experiencing the past 30 years, entirely by gov't policy design, both GOP and Democrat administrations.
