There's Not Enough Women at KCBS; Fire The Men; Not a Crisis Yet But Who Knows in the Future; A Possible Solution

Image result for Girl power KCBS has a BIG PROBLEM: namely, not enough women on the roster; except for...

Susan Leigh Taylor, Holly Quan, Rebecca Corral, Jennifer Hodges, Megan Goldsby, Carrie Hodousek, Susan Kennedy, Kim Wonderley, Cheryl Rains, Patty Reising, Margie Shafer, Melissa Culross, Sherry Brown, Betsy Gebhardt, Jennifer Seelig, Jan Wahl...

Just a shortage of women, you see.

Which means forces are in action to improve the situation.

Too many men means making tough decisions, options include:

canning nighttime sports guy, Bruce Macgowan and fellow man, weekend sports anchor, Joe Salvatore. The idea: let Jan Wahl do sports on the weeknight (and a bonus?-- more movie reviews and sports from a different angle; the woman! angle.)

Also, ace out Stan Bunger, John Atkinson, and Kevin the Rat: let Goldsby do those chores because she's really not on the air that much and that would improve KCBS women air talent morale.

The bottom line: There's just not enough women at KCBS. It's not a crisis yet but it could be.

  1. Thanks for mentioning Macgowan. Anyone else find his reports long winded, full of fluff? Plus playing a hockey highlight right after he just said what happened? I find most sports reports on KCBS to be too short, Macgowan's are too long.

    1. So true.
That guy rambles on and on about the most miniscule subjects.
Bruce Macgown, Mr tangent subject himself.
Bruce, what about giving us the sports news of the day?

  5. Yes we agree on the Bruce Macgowan replacement.
We've had enough of his sports updates.
And throw in Kevin the Rat.
By the way, what grown man calls himself "the rat"?

  7. Does anyone even listen to KCBS for anything other than traffic updates anyway? And now with either smart phones or navigation systems in every car, who needs even that?

It could stop broadcasting tomorrow and I wouldn't notice or care. Along with every other radio station out there.

    1. Yeah, radio is totally useless on the long drive to LA, or even to Sacramento. I use a memory stick or play stuff from my phone.

  9. Speaking of girl "power" at CBS (TV), why do they still hang on to the talentless and overpriced Veronica de la Crash? She hasn't been the superstar that was going to revitalize the station with her youth and energy, just the way Zouves and her Boy Toy didn't do it for KGO. Yet management won't abandon this silly strategy of "Lasso in the young ones with these hip, cool youngsters who know zero about news and can't do anything beyond read a teleprompter but everyone will watch them because of their hairstyle. And the people who make these idiot decisions get paid six figures! Meanwhile the people who actually keep the newsrooms humming are day-hires. What a fucked up business!

    1. You got that right. The most visible people are the least important. As with most organizations.

    2. Well said! They need to hire some intelligent old folks who don't Tweet to put them back in the game..

  10. When he was on KNBR, Big Bruce was Marty before Marty - droning on endlessly about baseball. The "highlight" was when he would play 20 year old cassette tape interviews with A's infielders nobody has never heard of. I'm a robot, but even I used to feel sorry for him because he was so boring, you just knew his days were numbered.

  11. KCBS, my station. Glad that terrible voice from KPIX is no longer there and Mary Lee, my MORNING WONDER WOMAN.

  12. Completely off topic...have you heard or seen KRON's new brilliant idea...probably came from Nexstar thinking that people are so tech savvy in the bay area and want to cut the cord and still watch KRON...um, you can get it free over the air. Anyway, its new streaming app where it is asking people to pay $3 a month to watch. Seriously? I get it for free over the air and can watch on its website. Jokers and dreamers. Anyone who pays is a fool.

  13. Until Radio hires more female Market Managers, GMs, PDs, GSMs and News Directors, hiring females as F/T, P/T airstaff, or editors is just lip service to gender equality.

Don't worry, Radio is still controlled by men. Now if there would be more female seats on the board of directors at these media corporations.....

  14. Meanwhile over at CNN, Sara Sidner is getting as big as Candy Crowley. Yikes!

    1. Sara Sidner, just like Candy Crowley is one of the real reporters, utterly undeterred by the difficulties of getting an important, complex story right. Did you think she was there to pose for your book of unattainable pinup girls?

  15. It was announced today that Cumulus has sold KFFG San Jose (KFOG) to EMF (K-Lite). Could KFOG be next? Also, they made additional sales in the New York and Washington DC areas.
