DEAR CECILIA VEGA: if you ever get sick of the ABC News White House Beat and want to head back to the Bay Area, please do so and swiftly. We need you; it's rather difficult to have a smart, educated, damn good and beautiful anchor on the desk.

Not to mention, get under the skin of this guy.

Before her current gig at ABC News, Vega worked at KGO-TV and before that, the SF Chronicle as a street side reporter.

There's been some word in industry circles she dreads the Washington grind but that may have changed. If so, I'm certain San Francisco would welcome her back.

*THEN THERE'S Alyana Gomez of KTVU who suddenly decided to it would be better to lose all personality and act like a robotic anchor doll.

Alyana Gomez
Gomez hasn't been here that long; just returned to the set after months off maternity leave; seems sort of bored and desultory --is this another Fox edict or have I just caught Gomez in a bad time period.

*WASTED at KGO: I know for a fact she is perfectly happy doing the morning (mostly) weather forecasts but what a shame that longtime weather woman, Lisa Argen is wasted on the weekend when she could be so great on primetime during the week? Maybe to enhance Sandhya Patel or fill in when Sandhya is away?

Argen is swift, crisp, gives a great forecast and is well-respected and liked by her ABC7 colleagues --see, even as you approach middle age (like Argen) you don't have to be kicked to the curb.

A little advice to Ms. Argen: be more enthusiastic every now and then.

*Juliette Goodrich is finally getting some consideration at KPIX for more weekday work as both a possible anchor and GSA reporter. Goodrich is another star power performer that has been thrown to weekend night purgatory which is one of many reasons why 'PIX is in such dire straits.

Goodrich has the wherewithal to do weeknight anchoring. She consistently gets offers from network and out-of-market outlets but because she has kids and loves the Bay Area, she's resisted moving the family elsewhere.

*SO, HERE'S THE DEAL on KTVU weather guesser, Rosemary Orozco --she has put off meeting with the new KTVU GM (because there is no one) but it's clear Rosemary wants (again) wants PRIME TIME --like permanent prime time at night where the cash is more and exposure is pristine.

Orozco has earned her stripes at KTVU and deserves a shot and from here we believe (I believe) Fox is more apt to putting her on the weather map as opposed to retaining cranky, mumbling, boring white guys.

Rosemary Orozco needs to pick her game up
Orozco could position herself better (so to speak) if she developed more of a personality and not the constant giggling-cackling performer. She has a ton of potential and could be a possible LA player (if she wants more dough) but she needs to become more spoken; more detailed; more comprehensive on the set and in throws back to the anchor. She is thorough enough and capable; gives a professional broadcast and forecast but the constant giggles need to be sent on FedEx back to Kansas.

Ken Wayne
*Ken Wayne, the veteran Bay Area news anchor that recently switched from KTVU to KRON used to have a wry sense of humor and the kind of guy that you'd love to hang out with and have a beer with; maybe the KRON experience has affected his personality. Wayne no longer is the bubbly man and jovial guy that used to light up the party. He's become more serious and downtrodden to a point where friends are concerned. There is no law that says you have to smile on endlessly and become something you clearly are not but the idea of looking and sounding morbid is a career killer and not becoming, take note, Kenny.

Ronn Owens gave this crap to the trick--or-treaters
*Not to outdone by Gary Radnich's cheap candy corn crap given to trick-or-treaters, Ronnnnnn Owens in Seacliff provided the kids with m and m's garbage --real generous Ronn, good to keep the wallet stocked for Copie lunches.

*SET to eventually become the Bay Area's HIGHEST-PAID anchor, NBC Bay Area's veteran Raj Mathai, is set to get a HUGE BUMP --probably in the $700K a -year neighborhood.

WHICH will soon become second to the monetary bonanza coming to KGO's Dan Ashley.

How short your memory is: you used to call him a robot on KTVU, too.

  2. What exactly are Radnich and Owens supposed to give out to little kids for Halloween? OMG what a horrible person Ronn is for giving out M&M's. Reaching much?

    1. Nothing wrong with candy corn or M&Ms. But it is fun to pick on these pompous fools.

    2. M&Ms are acceptable IF they are given out in bags.
I suspect Ronnnnnnnnnnnnn was handing out loose individual M&Ms.
      FAIL!

    3. And you get that where? From a Rich post or your dreams. FAIL

  3. I too have noticed Alyana has changed, from being very personable and watchable to just phoning it in, with an attitude that says she wish she could have stayed home. But most of KTVU's talent looks that way today--from Bill Martin to Sal to Gasia. (She's majorly toned herself down lately, and you haven't commented on that, surprisingly.) With Gasia it's actually an improvement.

  4. One of the players on the 'Extra Special' team hit a home run this past weekend, what a pleasure to watch! I've noticed the women on the 'Extra Special' team, those who stand out and are daring are projecting a new look, a look that grabs your attention and won't let go.

The women are the News, always will be. It seems the 50 year old 'half people' format is finally going away, what a great viewing improvement...NBC does it the best. Whole people rule!

The women who command attention are the players on the 'Extra Special' team and they are a pleasure to watch!

  6. I'm not surprised that Juliette and Lisa Argen are content where they are shift-wise: Being married and having kids is a life game-changer. If your hubby (or, as in Terry McSweeney...your wife) is entrenched in a great career...and if your kids are firmly entrenched in school, then working those shifts--in the Bay Area--is perfect. Why leave? Why uproot your spouse--and more importantly, your kids?

Their next decision will be "Maybe it's time I get out...and stay home with the kids...or find a 8-5 Monday-Friday job." I'm tellin' ya--being married and having kids is a game-changer for those of us who used to live & breathe TV news. That was me--until I left the biz 10-years ago. My wife got a promotion to management in her (non-TV) career, and our three kids were starting school.

Leaving the business for a "regular" M-F/8-5 job was the best career decision I ever made.

  7. If Vega were to come back, she would be a nice replacement for Ama. And as far as Argen goes, I agree that her talent is being wasted on a Sunday morning.

  8. I cannot wait to see Alana Gomez leaving KTVU. Too much exposure on camera as a mother of 2, hard stone expression with no humor and just too degusted to watch. Christina Rendon can replace her, but she ain't the best either.
