In Light of Cheryl Jennings Forced Retirement More Nervous Nellies at KGO; Louie/Lee Fret; Zouves All But Gone from 900 Front; Scouring LA; Near Brawling at KCBS; Lettieri and Bunger: It's War; Radnich Stiffs KNBR Intern (Again)

SO, Cheryl Jennings retires from KGO, more like pushed out it's becoming clearer and clear although there's nothing out there to indicate Jennings is upset; as she enters her sunset years I know she got a fat going away check and is pretty much set for life.

Those that should be nervous: veteran reporter, David Louie who simply doesn't want to retire but might be forced to. Louie has been at KGO since the late 60's and keeps going and going, like the Eveready battery. He's not a great reporter mind you but he is darn consistent and a presence, still, at Circle 7.

Another nervous Nellie: Vic Lee. Still very good and sharp street reporter but makes too much money which is a no-no with Disney-owned,  ABC/KGO execs who regard older talent as the scourge of the earth.

Natasha Zouves
*Natasha Zouves, still convalescing at home and doubtful to return to KGO; she's all but gone when she recovers and heads down south to Ell-Lay.

*If you think your life is chaos then you should have checked out the KCBS newsroom last week when a near brawl took place between staffers arguing over what reporter should cover that Transbay Transit building mess. Of course the chatty news director was nowhere to be found.

KCBS has several problems. Nobody likes Jennifer Seelig (still) lost in translation and lost an entire radio station.

*Stan Bunger and Scott Lettieri are at WAR and hate each other's guts. Maybe time for a wine summit.

*The KCBS gossipy, chatty, yenta traffic woman at night likes to spread rumor and innuendo about various Bay Area media only she should know a lawyer has been called and she might be getting some unwelcome news sooner rather than later.

*Another Gary Radnich specialty: sends the intern out to get his orange soda. Not only doesn't give him a few bucks but makes joke at his expense. El Cheapo strikes again at KNBR.

  1. Radnich and Kruger's long time producer Ame was recently fired. Was his refusal to fetch the orange soda the reason?

  2. "keeps going and going, like the Ever ready battery"

I guess Vic is the Energizer Bunny?

  3. Rich, David Louie and Vic Lee are STILL dang good reporters. They are no nonsense, and do a good job. Of course, that doesn't count in today's media market, but people like them, the just retired Carolyn Tyler, Eric Thomas, and Cheryl Jennings, all do and have done, great jobs. I admit that I do not like Cheryl Jennings, as I agree that she should have already retired, but man, if you go to Youtube and search for "quake of 1989", you will come up with "as it happened" videos from the live broadcasts of KGO back in 1989, and Cheryl Jennings was a TRUE ANCHOR that day. She held the station together under incredibly circumstances. I can't imagine any of the current lineup of female reporters/anchors, being able to handle a crisis like that, they same way Cheryl did.

    2. Nope. Thomas is still working in the studio and in the field.

  5. Bye already Natasha Zouves! Ell Lay is gonna love your hair!

  6. Dan Ashley will probably retire in less than 10 years if the station is being cheap paying high prices on well experience anchors. But, who will replace Dan. Not Eric since he is also heading towards retirement based on his senior looks in the 50s.

Who needs Natasha trying to use her sexy image and eyes to attract male audiences when we got Jessica Castro a better replacement taking news very seriously. No need to come back Natasha or ever work again and KGO please remove all her face on those TV ads immediately. Maybe, Rich can find out...the day when she claim she was injured, was she able to walk, move or drive and is she currently on a wheelchair preventing her to work. Sounds like her claim is phony and highly doubt she is injured preventing her from coming back.

  7. Cheryl was the best "ad lib" anchor during crises. Throw her on the flash cam and she could keep viewers watching for hours without using a script. Her work during the 89 quake was impressive even to this day. She was pleasant to work around and always respectful and kind to staff during my three decades there. Her one big issue, as far as some staff members, is her unwavering fawning toward management. She was a "true believer" and everyone knew she would say nothing bad about the brass, even to the point of taking sides during the last labor work stoppage. Not nice and certainly not necessary.

  8. Vic Lee is worth every penny. A true 'mensch' as they say. They don't get better on the street than him.

David Louie a great value too - liked him on the business beat.

  9. Removing big salary reporters doesn't change Disney HQ's most obvious KGO-TV problem - REMOVE TRIXIE! If Iger told Circle7-SF management to remove Trixie and they still refuse to, that is a big problem that will only get bigger. Until that happens, unnecessary misery goes on.

    1. KGO is in such a massive hole but I agree, removing Trixie would be a nice start, but really they are staring down the barrel of a massive restructuring. The state of KGO today is one of embarrassment and frankly, they have waited so long the cancers are literally everywhere with no cure in sight!
