Jack Swanson back at KGO
IF YOU READ ME, I said it all along and now it's official:

Programming wizard and old KGO Radio genius Jack Swanson is BACK at 810 AM and I always had a hunch.

Now, let the new schedule evolve but I have a few ideas as to what will commence.

See ya later.

Welcome back, Jack.

Mickey is really gonna steam now.

    1. Will KGO ever get rid of the annoying Ethan Bearman? He's the radio equivalent of having something stuck to your shoe that you just can't scrape off.

    2. Fully agree. Bearman must go AND that chip fool too.

      We can only hope.

    3. That moron Barelyaman is still on!? Good grief. Big mouth white supremacist Georgia on KSCO cursed Barelyaman as a shify character for being an anti-trumper. Gene Burns must be rolling in his grave everyday Barelyaman is on air.

    1. Hopefully the new man in charge can get some fresh blood on the station.

The last thing we need is a Paleontologist to get a couple of these fossils cleared. Some of you are clamoring for him to get some of the old guys and girls off their dialysis machines to get a lineup. They already trot a few fossils out to talk politics on the weekend and some weeknights. It's 2019 in a few months. Move forward.

  4. Well,I never...
On a day filled with noxious news out of Washington, here we have something hopeful. But, as always, the proof is in the pudding. If KGO could rise from its self-imposed grave, that would be really, really wonderful.

  5. Yes!

Bring back Dr. Bill! Oh wait...

    Bring back Bernie! Oh wait...

    Bring back Ray TaliaTakei!

Get rid of the comedian lady, the guy that broadcasts from LA, and bra size on resume lady. So awful.

    1. With you about Maureen Langdon, she needs to go, some positive changes has been made the last few months, like tonight when Pat was on instead of repeat the Ethan's morning program. I believe Ethan broadcast from the Santa Cruz area, however I won't be sorry if he is a goner. Since the changes I do listen to him because he talks about issues of the day, and I can't stand Rush Limbaugh or the preaching, everything is the leftists fault, Dennis Prager. However, Ethan is still annoying, just less than he use to be, his voice borders on the hysterical sometimes, and although he takes calls, and is moderately good at engaging the caller, he is too longwinded, one call this morning his answer was very tedious, and he kept repeating the same points, and gave very little time to the caller, not great radio. He needs to listen to some old tapes of Gene Burns, on how to engage the callers.

  6. Are we all assuming that Jack Swanson is greater than every programmer in the country? I ask because NO STATION in America is succeeding land Swanson did nothing at KCBS. He was s good guy to work for and a good programmer but he’s not going to make a lick of difference in demos that matter. That’s a fact. Need to stop thinking it’s 1998.

It’s the 22nd century in the Bay Area. Radio is gone.

    1. No it is not, just listen when Pat Thurston or John Rothmann is on lots of calls and good dialogue, people spend to much time commuting or stuck in traffic to not listen to the radio.

    2. When Pat and John are on I can pretty much write their script to a T. I know what Pat is going to say before she even says it. KGO, predictable talk 810. What critical thinking?

    1. Please not Gil Gross, although he was better on KGO than when he moved to 910 where he did not take calls, but I would rather have Brian Copeland or Ronn back, than Gil Gross. John Rothmann a no brainer, Len Tillem neutral, didn't listen a lot to him, liked when Ronn had him on as a guest.

  9. I miss Gil Gross and Mrs. Gross.
Don't you? I'm not being sarcastic either.

  10. Whatever Jack Does It will have to be NEW...With Perhaps a Tip of the Hat to the past, but the KGO that died in 2011 is just Radio Compost now. It cannot be brought back!
KGO was wobbling in 2011. It was Cumulus that knocked it over with 7 years of BAD IDEAS. Good Luck Jack You will need it.

  11. i would plead with jack to rid the world of the a.d.d hyper self centered so called chef who hogs the airwaves every saturday..on an another pathetic note once again chris townsend won't shut up, get a headache hearing his grating voice and then he has a listner on as a sharks "anaylst", townsend overexposed as usual

  12. Five people I'd hire for KGO: Pam Moore, Ken Bastida, someone fresh not necessarily from a broadcast background (think Wattenburg, Thurston) and a young pro who could be the "Ronn Owens" of the 80s in 2018 - maybe it takes a year to grow into the role, doesn't need to be a prime slot person. Moore and Bastida can carry the station for a couple of years.

  14. The Ol Coitati Kid...October 6, 2018 at 6:22 AM

The problem is there's no real radio talent out there kids!

Who do you get to replace the red neck philosophers in the mnorning? Imus? Opie and Anthony? Malanie Morgan?

All the greats have passed, we're beyond putting K-GO back in the bottle...

    ReplyDelete
  15. You can't bring back the old KGO because a lot of the talent is no longer here. However there are a few still around and some new fresh talent would be good. If KGO just got back to local talk radio that would be good. I think there is enough people in the bay area that would call in. At least when major news happens people can talk about it. I hope Swanson can get something going...

  16. Haven't listened to KGO since the bloodbath a few years ago except when John Rothmann or Pat Thurston is on. The rest of the inane 'talent' is way beneath what KGO was for so many years.

  17. Bring back a longer Ronn....Pat T.....John R....And add...(though many will protest.)...Bernie Ward. Despite his past...and he's paid is "DEBT"....Bernie brings "great radio"....He's controversial...people want that these days.

    1. Pretty sure the terms of Bernie's supervised release(federal probation) terms prohibit access to the internet, and I'm pretty sure most employers would never be cool with him having unrestricted access to the stations internet being a convicted pitapocket.

How does one decide between Ethan and Bernie?

    2. I would listen to Bernie...and I think there's a very real possibility he might be back.

      Delete
    3. He won't be back.

Who the hell would screen his calls?

      Some college kid?

How about some innocent female intern.

There is no delay machine quick enough...nor a producer stupid enough to take on the precast disaster that that show would quickly become.

  18. Cumulus has a great talent in Chattanooga that doesn't parrot right wing talking points. Brian Joyce. Travelled, literate, funny, left leaning and intelligent but not overly PC/dull. Can talk travel, music, pop culture, interview well. I think he'd fit in SF, got his start in Boston.
