FOR ALMOST SEVEN YEARS I have said, repeatedly, that all that KGO Radio needed was a re-do; a tweak; maintaining its core brand as a definitive, "news-talk" station that would be caller-driven and host-oriented dictated by topics of the day and by golly does it have that; it took seven years to convince the big suits to revert to form and it appears to be returning early dividends --congrats even if you were late to the party.

*The 1-800-Junk ads add to the immediate regurgitate state of mind.

*Starting yesterday, those of you that SUBSCRIBE to 415 MEDIA will receive a special, exclusive news that include back stories and unique takes. It costs $25 a year ($30: Two Years) to be a paid subscriber --you'll support the Bay Area's #1 -rated media blog and get the news and commentary you won't read in any other site, on-line or off. TO SUBSCRIBE: Scroll down the right side of the blog to you see the Pay Pal "donate" button; click on it and follow the prompters. It takes a minute and that's it. I will personally e-mail or call you thanking you for your contribution.

*Don't be fooled by pictures: there is a genuine lack of trust between NBC Bay Area anchors, Jessica Aguirre and Janelle Wang. Aguirre is working under a no-contract status while Wang has a long-term deal. There exists a quiet rage with Aguirre who has manned the desk in San Jose for nearly a decade. Resentment? You Betcha.

*Tension at the office: KTVU weather woman, Rosemary Orozco is quietly fidgeting for primetime placement only Bill Martin stands in the way; for now.
In a few months before fall, things change, my prediction.

Martin's continued feud with sports anchor, Mark Ibanez, is beginning to take its toll on both with the top HR yenta, Chris Nohr, on top of the growing brawlers who do very well on the set considering how much they hate each other.

*It took KPIX almost four years to figure out that its 10 PM experiment, "Night Beat", really sucks. Therefore there is no more Night Beat, just a simple straightforward 10 PM newscast that will still get killed by KTVU.

Image result for tom vacar ktvu*It's not that Tom Vacar is eternally grumpy and a pain in the ass, it just seems that way. I didn't say that but a prominent ex-KTVU staffer said as much. Worse for Channel 2, Vacar still doesn't want to retire therefore Count Grumpy is still on the air although diminished and marginalized.

*If the Chronicle ever decides to do some real investigative reporting about the influence of Giants' front man, Larry Baer, let me know because the chances of that happening is about the same as me having a hot tub with one of the Kardashian women.

  1. That photo of Rosemary is exactly why local TV nooz is a hilarious Onion parody. I coulda been a sultry model but I wound up here. "I'll have the tornado warning in a moment, but first another look at my creamy thighs."

    1. Rosemary, another asset for KTVU, why? A symmetrical goddess always qualifies as an asset...that she is!!
Assets equal high ratings! Start the Newsical chairs, would love to see her in the evenings, the "best" is yet to come!!

You have to give someone a reason to watch your station, she is a reason, a very desirable reason!!

    2. Try watching local news in other markets, such as SoCal (LA). Think younger women, as well as shorter skirts and full length and couch shots.

    3. How much Kleenex do you use in any given newscast?

  2. Has anyone else heard that radio commercial on KGO where the woman's voice WHISPERS for the entire commercial, and keeps saying
    ; $4.99? I can't understand anything else she's whispering!
Is this connected to Bernie Sanders's infamous "Twenty-Seven-Dollars!!" quote?

    2. KGO did change, it might not be to your likening, but they changed. Just listen to Ethan Bearman, no yoga, no tofu, or gluten free. Mostly political talk, and he takes calls, he does have a short segment with a recipe, and another with non political news, but that is okay. He is not among my favorites, he still kind of shout into the microphone, but he is pretty good with the give and take with callers, I can listen to him now and is not stuck with Dennis Prager or Chad Benson (650 AM Sacramento) or Rush. John Rothmann is promoting KGO as an interactive (i.e) station, he was on for Pat last night, took tons of calls, had a full board, good radio. Hopefully more changes are to come. I think they should drop Dr. Drew and perhaps put Ronn on those 2 hours, have Pat or John on instead of Chip, and 7 to 10 again either Pat or John, keep John Batchelor, or get rid of Coast to Coast and have Batcbelor on late night, and John Rothmann from 10 to 1, only suggesting that for selfish reasons, I work to almost 10 pm. and have a long commute, so John at that hour would be heaven for me, I wouldn't mind having Brian Copeland on again. To repeat drop Dr. Drew, and Chip Franklin (don't hear much change on his show, but don't listen much)find spots for John Rothmann, Brian Copeland and Pat Thurston. Listened to Maureen Langdon tonight, didn't hear much change and never really warmed up to her, to perhaps find someone else, but she is on only 3 hours a week, so not a big deal.

    3. they need to dump ryan scott on saturday and give those two hours to newstalk, anybody but him.. he drags everything down, can't interview anyone right and always is self promoting or talking about his personal life and then having suck up friends that lavish false praise on him, its horrible..

    4. I wrote the blog at 10:38. In all the years Ryan Scott has been on, I have only listened briefly, wouldn't amount to more than an hour or so. However, from the snippets I heard I would agree with you. Perhaps find someone that could do that slot and Maureen Langdon's as well.

  5. Can we get a post of the "worst of KGO" since 2011? My vote goes to "SweetJack". That was just the most ridiculous thing of all things. A shopping website advertising itself on Cumulus stations in the Bay Area. That epitomized how dumb these guys were/are.

    1. I had almost forgotten SweetJack! Trying to copy Groupon on the cheap; even as Groupon's business model flamed out, they took it lower: in effect, business owners were encouraged to give away the store, and pay SweetJack (Cumulus) to advertise it.

  7. I very much agree with your assessment of Vacar. I used to work at KTVU and liked him much, despite some others not being so glowing. Since then he's turned into the classic "grumpy old man." I wonder how his wife, who also used to work there, can stand him.

  10. I know many people that work for the Giants. I've done some independent contracting work for them as well. I have never heard a good word about Baer from any of them. Sadly, he is neither liked or respected. Any article about him would be sleep inducing.

  11. You will never read a story critical of Larry Baer at the Chronicle.
    A newspaper based on weakness.
Word has it, Audrey Cooper is throwing a temper tantrum after the Giants lost 2 out of 3 games to the A's.

  12. Actually, the Giants lost 4 out of 6, go A's!
