When In Doubt Hold Meetings; KGO/ Cumulus Tuesday Schmooze; Owens and Copie Reunion Rumors

Image result for Levi Auditorium Cumulus San Francisco THEY HAD A MEETING THIS AFTERNOON at KGO; they always have meetings; like the rest of corporate America, if in doubt, call meetings. Only like most meetings, nothing of major importance emerged. What else is new.

A spy told me that both the double H's, Harvill (Doug,SF MM for Cumulus) and Lee Hammer, the new PD and opps mgr that will run KGO for the fired Mike Anthony, told the masses (KGO) that "we're making changes" (again) and the changes will come sooner rather than later. How many times have we heard this? Oh, not the changes but that KGO will change. Good luck with that. Could it dawn on these guys ---all of them--that since they changed the operation; the initial massacre in December, 2011, all they've done with all their changes would result in the catastrophe that is now present-day KGO? Good lord they still don't get it not that that matters anymore because the damage is already done.

Another rumor: Brian Copeland, the purveyor of mass on-air boredom and minutiae, is also being considered for another run at attracting the 99 people that still listen to KGO Radio, 3 of which are Copeland's kids who work at various Cumulus outposts. If Ronn comes back, figure Copeland is back too; they're kind of a pair the Ronnster and Copes a virtual #basta supreme.

My best guess at this point for the future of Kay-Go is that the guys will hire some more various voices and try to create some sort of synergy --not a "next generation" kind of deal (we all know how that worked out) more a mini-deluge of both local and syndicated content that will excite the married women of Walnut Creek and provide monetary support for Copeland so he can finance his exhilarating "Headlines with the Headliners" feature all mankind depends on for orgasmic pleasure.

Rock on.

  1. Ronn: Ok, Brian, what's the next joke you got?

Brian: Ok, Ronn...here's one...what's Black and white, and hasn't had a laugh since this station had ratings?

    Ronn: Our newest show?

  2. KGO is sad.
They have been stuck in a deep hole of their own creation, while trying to dig themselves out since 2011.
    Keep digging!....That will work.

  3. I think the station is beyond help. The ratings are sinking faster than the Titanic. The 90's to the late 2000's the lineups were solid as can be. How do you recreate that? Pat and John in weekday slots are a start. Bring back the loya, Bernie, Ray T.? I wish.

    1. "OK, call up and say whatever you want for thirty seconds so I don't have to do any work. Go!"

  5. Can Thurston keep her hands off Tim Sika for more than 3 seconds? And her over the top support (wohooo), for Bernie Sanders made me want to puke!

  8. I like your blog, read it every day, have contributed money to it. What's up with the comments "housewife in Concord, or married women in Walnut Creek" it is neither here nor there. I'm female live on the Concord/Walnut Creek border. Are you suggesting that a housewife or married women don't have the same intelligence and interest as others? Not the best way to get someone to send you money to support your blog. Although I'm female, I'm not married, I am a grandmother, and I work. I love John Rothmann, miss Gene Burns, like Pat Thurston ,most of the time, Ronn's 10 minutes is better than listening that 3 hours of Ethan Bearman.

  9. I will throw something out there. I always liked Peter B Collins. He is local, a seasoned talk show host, and intelligent. I also think Christine Craft should get a few hours a week (maybe late night or weekends). At least she is opinionated, passionate and gets your juices going (just what a talk show host should do).

  10. Why do they persist in bringing back old personalities. There is a reason they are where they are. Get new personalities...heard Damon Bruce due a news talk segment for 3 hours a few years ago and he was more compelling than what they have now.

  11. I don't understand why they would do that, if they had low ratings before with them, what is going to change, problem with Ron is when he was at his peak, he had good ratings with the raisins. The raisins are now 6 feet under.
