Gerald Nachman: 1938-2018

Image result for Gerald Nachman A Good Friend of mine; someone who penned a most flattering article about me passed away Saturday. I'm profoundly sad upon hearing the news of Gerald Nachman's death at age 80.

Gerry was a entertainment writer and critic for the Chronicle, Oakland Tribune, San Jose Merc and NY Daily News.

He also wrote numerous books and a regular on the entertainment circuit in and around SF during the 80's and 90's.

I often bumped into Gerry when I worked at various radio gigs --K101 and ABC Radio. I was reviewing many shows at the Venetian Room at the Fairmont Hotel where Gerry often hung out and also did reviews for the Chronicle and a centerpiece for his wildly popular "Singles" scene he wrote over several years.

Gerry loved old movies, talk radio, Larry King, and pop culture; well, at least some of it. Boy, could he write. He also had a wry sense of humor; a NY sense of humor even though he was born in Oakland. He was also very old-school and made a habit of being offended by the thought of ketchup on a hotdog, pineapple on a pizza. I'm just scratching the surface. I could go on and on...

I'm proud to have known Mr. Nachman; condolences to his friends and family.

  2. although pineapple pizza is not bad, having chicken on pizza is silly. you go out for pizza and you want chicken? as if people don't want to leave behind American culture for awhile.

  7. just a note. reason you don't like cheese on a burger is because it blocks the melding of flavors onions tomatoes pckles etc. that piece of cheese blocks all that flavors going together. a ''hamburger'' was originaly that. Wimpy don't ask for a ''cheesburger''. any burger is rich enough without cheese.
