HEY, IT'S JUST A WACKY TIME ON THE KPIX5 Morning Extravaganza! Kenny Choi has a pulse! Michelle Griego hasn't thrown anyone under the bus in the last three days! Neda Iranpour bought some cough drops! And Jaclyn Dunn has stopped looking at potential plastic surgeons!

TV News in the morning at its journalistic finest!

*Dan Noyes, KGO's one-man band when it comes to Investigative Reporting --The ITeam scored a big time Exclusive with news that that victim in the Tesla crash had complained about the autopilot which was at the center of the crash.

Image result for Dan Noyes I team KGO-TVNoyes does have a producer but is largely his own content provider and distributor and doesn't have the luxury of more staff and personnel to help out on his assignments. But get this: Noyes gets the big scoops nonetheless and manages to outdo the competition who might have splashy promos but fail to get the big stories.

Image result for fallon smith nbc sports*Dear Fallon Smith: I'm sure you mean well and can pronounce the names correctly of various Bay Area sports teams but you sound like Mr. Bill from Saturday Night Live --look, I know you have no control over the voice but try to drink more coffee and soften up the Nordstrom Rack fashion detail, everything else is just fine and dandy.

*Hey Look, it's the Foodie Chap and Ben Fong Torres --I'd say birds of a feather ...but you beat me to it.

By the way, BFT is about to pen his Sunday Chron pinkie with the 5345th  mention of the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame inductee--latest being the night janitor at KSFO.

NEWS, NOTES & COMMENTS

That's what a near-100 loss season will do to your clients on radio...The yahoo who programs KGO Radio still doesn't have a clue; while the Trump/Michael Cohen/FBI/Mueller probe widens and deepens and becomes daily fodder on the Internet and talk show, schmuck Mike Anthony is preaching, "stick to the 7 F's!!" Yeah Mike, great managing. While the first missile chucks Syria Mike's browned-nosed Ethan Bear-MAN! will be discussing the pros and cons of wheat germ...Peter Finch on KCBS overnight. Lovely, what's next? Scoop Nisker filling in for Jeff Bell on PM drive (which wouldn't be that bad a deal)...Is the cover of SFGate.com a news site of an affiliate of Zillow? Just asking...Acknowledging the obvious: when Radnich is off the show, Larry Krueger can't conduct the orchestra. Sure, Gary is not the old Gary but he's still better than KNBR's Uber drivers and assorted jocks that got dumped early by the Giants and Niners....A "Mr. Bill" reference complete with video, you're welcome..."Murph and Mac": more dude mentions than the detention center of a Walnut Creek high school Friday afternoon..."Powlie" had an orgasm! Big sale at Walmart on Grateful Dead blankets! DUDE!!...Not to be outdone by the party-hearty folks at PIX, the morning Donnie and Marie players at ABC7 wanted to show their own journalistic acumen. In fact, Reggie Aqui, is going rogue: he wants to interview Michael Cohen; no, nothing about Trump; more, "Who does your hair?!...Heather Holmes has definitely toned down the late-night, Marina club look, ok, props Heather now if only you could ad-lib and not have earie characteristics of a modern-day, "Play Misty For Me" woman...The people who watch 4 PM newscasts generally are probably the same people who just love "Wheel of Fortune" and hate "Jeopardy."...Stock down: PIX's Christian Ayers; not so long ago a star now relegated to covering fires in Fremont...Stock down: Joe Vasquez; what, did Rosenheim consign you to the Antioch bureau? Lighten up!...Melissa Caen Update: Denies rumors of screaming in newsroom: "I gotta London Breed exclu, I gotta London Breed exclu!!...Melissa is very skilled and special as KPIX's political reporter; just the other day she asked Gavin Newsom, "how much gel do you put on your hair each day?"...Ama Daetz: if Halle Berry was a news anchor, sort of...OK, ok, KRON traffic anchor and occasional reader of 415 MEDIA, Robin Winston; in spite of your frequent anonymous comments here I would still take you out for dinner at Tommy's Joynt and perhaps recite romantic poetry to you because I'm a very sensitive man and admire your candor and respect your journalistic acumen...Winston's beauty has some of the women journalists at KRON on edge: just the other day, Darya Folsom confronted her and threatened she'd dress up as Annie Hong...Steve Aveson is leaving KRON in the next few weeks (his contract wasn't renewed) but right after he was given the news allegedly he began shouting, "Hey, Pero, had you given me time, I could have been the white Dave Clark!"...KTVU Update: another six cameras makes it a clean 60! 1. In regards to Rich's comment on Ethan Bearman, does anyone miss Ronn Owens? He often took quite a beating on this blog, and I often defended him (when Rich would post my comments), I wouldn't even say I was a fan, not like I'm a huge John Rothmann fan, and was a huge Gene Burns fan, but Ronn for the most part did an intelligent relevant show, with good interviews and callers. I miss him a lot, the only other choices available in the am, is Dennis Prager, yawn, yawn, and Rush Limbaugh, more yawn, too predictable, and Chad Benson on 640 am (Sacramento) also yawn, nothing outstanding about him, at times a bit more entertaining and Prager. On some days and a few times Dennis Prager can do a decent show, especially if he interviews someone. For the most part I find him boring, and he constantly keeps talking about how the liberals are ruining this country, seems an obsession with him. I also miss Brian Copeland. He is still mentioned in ads on KGO, but I have not heard him fill in for anyone. Too bad.

Brian would come into my restaurant and ask me personally to hire his kids. I bluntly told him “This ain’t KGO, Slappy. I need my house cleaned, send them over.” Hmph.

    2. lol@Beatrice. Brian's kids are everywhere now. Good lord. Carolyn is a producer at KGO radio and the son is on KNBR weekends talking baseball with Marty and I think I heard he now has P-Con's former show the shower hour in the AM.

Rich should blog about all that bs.

  2. CSN dropped Mindi Bach and kept Fallon Smith. Whoever is being paid for these decisions should be forced to watch the Warriors Outsiders non-stop for a month.

  3. > that victim in the Tesla crash had complained about the autopilot
    > which was at the center of the crash.

Then why was he still using it?! This is not to absolve Tesla, but seriously, just drive your own car, dumbass, especially if you know an automatic system is faulty. (He did not have his hands on the wheel before the impact.)

    1. Worked on automatic flight control systems (military aircraft) for 14 years. Autopilots are not bullet proof, just the opposite, they fail quite frequently.

One example...New aircraft and new autopilot. When the plane experienced turbulent weather out over the North Atlantic the autopilot would "disengage" without any warning when the nose pitched down at a high rate angle.

If you think that autopilot in your brand new car is a perfect state of the art system, which will never fail, you are a fool!

  6. The Fallon Smitb hiring I don't understand. Her voice ia completely annoying. I won't watch if she's on. Being attractive is one thing, I'll give her that, but the voice, I can't get past it.

  7. Sometimes when I tune into KNBR in the morning and listen for a few minutes I wonder if I've tuned into a music station by mistake instead of a sports talk station.

  8. yeah ,Winston, that's the woman I was wondering why she wasn't mentioned here more often if at all. you thought 415 couldn't miss her. she's the one you ''Gotta Hug Now''. no building up to an eventual Hug after the Dinner or maybe later. huh?

  14. I quit listening to Murph and Mac a couple of years ago. They are such brown nosers. I think the last time I listened to them was when they let Bill Walton blabber on non stop about the Grateful Dead for something like 20 minutes. It was absolutely brutal. Dude

  15. Ethan Bearman is like an alcoholic that has recently become sober so now he think he can cure every other alcoholic. Hey I think its great that you have fooled yourself into thinking sugarless food taste great. Just get off your high horse and talk about something else.

He also has his veterinarian sister on every week and she talks about homeopathic drugs that work great on animals. Homeopathy is quack science and works only on the placebo effect. Animals do not understand that effect so she's a quack for pushing it.

  16. Two thoughts:

    - Believe it or not, Fallon Smith has two Emmys. But maybe instead of for NBCSN Bay Area, it should have been for SNL. Oh Nooooo! LOL!
    - Don't know what Rich and/or his followers think of the frequently running ads for the theatre play Head Over Heels, based on the music of the 1980s band The Go-Gos. But I did notice one frequent KGO Radio guest that still comes on even for Mike Anthony & Chip Franklin - Go-Gos-co-founder Jane Wiedlin. Rich and the 415 readers might want to remind the co-writer of Our Lips Are Sealed, We Got The Beat, and Vacation that KGO limited Ronn Owens to the occasional 2-3 minute segment here and there, and Owens was the reason Wiedlin started visiting the station. Like her bandmates Belinda Carlisle and Charlotte Coffey, Wiedlin doesn't suffer fools gladly, so if we can inform the incredible songwriting musician and occasional wedding minister - including for the LGBTQ community, who she staunchly supports - what has happened at KGO Radio this entire decade, then maybe we can convince ol' Jane to take her SF radio guest services elsewhere. It's likely she doesn't know how awful the radio landscape really is. Let's have her catch up some.

  18. To Beatrice in Penngrove, where is your restaurant? Brian lives in San Leandro. Besides your comment about Brian's kids has nothing to do with me comment that I miss Brian on KGO. MSNBC hired Tim Russert son after Tim passed away, but I believe over the years he has proven an able reporter. Both his parents were reporters so is does not seem so strange that he followed in their footsteps. Brian's kid are all over, he has 3 children, we live in a densely populated area of several millions, so I hardly think they are all over. Anyway if they are qualified who cares?
