KNBR/Connor Aftermath; The Sounds of Silence at The Bleeder; Clients/Advertisers Along With Public Uproar Seal Fate of P-Conn; Thursday Open

Image result for SilenceKNBR made the move to fire Pat Connor, yes, largely, when public uproar mounted and left them no choice; again, how idiotic in today's political climate, to make such a dumb statement about a teen Olympic athlete? THIS JUST IN: Connor is no Howard Stern.

Connor is a dimbulb putz who somehow managed to get a gig at KNBR because he could recite Southeast Conference football jock stats and Brian Murphy, his soulmate, thought he was Jesus Christ. More on that later.

But back to the firing. Cumulus (KNBR's daddy) initially suspended him then fired him. Public disgust, further alienation from women (duh!) and the biggest factor: client and advertising backlash.

KNBR is flagship to the SF Giants and 49ers; no way would those partners put up with retention of a low-level doofus like Connor and his misbegotten verbal hard-on. In addition, advertisers, are especially sensitive in the #MeToo world; it might be wussy but it's the new reality. A lot of women love the NFL; women love baseball; some women are more sports savvy then men. It's a fact.

So when some idiot ogles about a "hot piece of ass" (she's still not 18 even) he pays the price. End of story.

<
KNBR hosts still didn't say a word about the Connor affair; they were told by the boss to keep their mouths shut which is all you need to know about the schmucks who run KNBR. Cowards...

Brian Murphy basically built up Pat Connor; his on-air gushing was almost as ubiquitous as his constant UCLA and pop-culture references. It was Murphy who was instrumental in Connor's rise at the station. So it's actually funny that Murphy couldn't say a word about his "friend." What would he say? That he was "shocked" what transpired? That he could have some balls and tell Jerimiah Crowe, the PD, that he'd want to get something off his chest. Murphy was mum more or less; a little mumble but no real take.  Of course not, No Spine. Cumulus mush is everywhere.

*Connor is gone. I think the world will survive.

  1. Murph said a few words at the end of his show today. I'm not sure if Mac even knows P Con is gone.

    1. Mac is busy making song mashups that nobody finds entertaining. Rich talks about no talent bores, my god, listen to his nonsense.

  2. I hope Conner enjoys his new job, flipping burgers...

    1. He'll probably make more money flipping burgers.

And it's the Southeastern Conference (SEC) that PCon never shuts up about.

    2. I'm sure your wife enjoyed him last night.

  3. Wait...Conner said something on ANOTHER station??? A sattelite channel at that??? Come on!!! If the comment was made on Sirius/XM he had every right to say whatever he wanted. This is Crowe's move to rid knibbler of anyone who had long pre-cum-u-less ties. He's making over the station into the Game 2.0. Hoffar, Lund, oh God, the list now is growing of fools who've moved to knib on Crowe's watch.
Btw, P-Conn, though no brilliant mind, was at least willing to say something original and had been around a long time which says something too. What we're left with are scum at the lowest level. Crowe, Hammer, J-Twitt, ...they are all pathetic pandering dick-heads. Btw, pt 2...Mac was closer to P-Conn than anyone and supported him big time...so did Hammer...All apparently not enough.

    1. You are absolutely right. He has the right to say anything he wants. That in no way removes the right of his employers to remove his voice from their place of business

    2. This move to fire has nothing to do with what he said. It was a golden opportunity for a bankrupt company to shed salary, however little it is. They owe billions and face multiple lawsuits. They are purging, and will continue, at every opportunity. This fit perfectly.
Now they get a guy to replace him who makes 3/4 less.

    3. And Tom Leykis and his little internet project made a profit in 2017. Unlike CumuLESS and IHeart who did not...

  4. you know it was a bad move when the only advertiser on the station, Kars for Kids, demands he be fired.

  5. although somewhat entertaining in an adolescent way more meant for a podcast than live over air radio, PConn had it coming. He was always on the edge of indecency. Mostly amateur hour. I always wondered how he got a show, even an hour a day. The weekend football shows during the season were okay, and somewhat informative. Mostly SEC football, really. Having said all this, maybe a suspension was more in line. Although, he may have been warned already, we don't know. That Barstool gig (lasting 2 days?) is more built for him and the bro/childish humor. He should just stick to blogging/podcasting and the like. Bye Peaches!

  6. I thought it was satellite radio shtick why is he being treated like the second coming of Bernie Ward

  7. I don't think Patrick will ever think what he said was wrong but more an attempt at humor on a station based on a website known for stupidity.

When the story broke on Tuesday night, Patrick blew off the deadspin report as a joke. If he was truly sincere and knew his mistake, he would have said something on air on Tuesday or Tuesday night.

He always gave off the better than you attitude. On Monday he said Reuben Foster deserved a second chance after the domestic abuse charges

    1. He gave that off because he DOES think he is superior to everyone else. He thought he was bullet proof with the deadspin tweet. P-con you are no uncle gary.

  8. I think Patrick’s perspective will be missed. He often was a counterpoint to Murphy’s smarminess. Now the morning show will truly be unlistenable.

    1. Bert smarmy? No way - how can someone who wears a fanny pack and a pink sweater around the neck be smarmy? Oh, wait, DUDE. BRO.

  9. And management remains silent...Is there even a management in place at KNBR?...There has never a better time than now for KNBR management to step up and take a stand.

    1. In case you are unclear, firing someone is a clear management stand.

    2. 9:43 Well stated. Who fired him? It wasn't Bert. Maybe the town bicycle.

  10. Looks like Brian Murphy has been edited out of the Petersen-Dean commercials

  11. Isn't the comments section so much better, fresher, and less trolly without Stan? I'm enjoying it, Rich. Keep up the good work!

  12. Murphy did discuss Connor 15 minutes into yesterday's show

  13. In all honesty what do you expect KNBR or anyone in management to say? Just be rid of him and move on and that's what they did. SiriusXM should do the same.

    1. Current KNBR management needs to say "good bye" and leave the Bay Area. Management is the problem.

    2. They did the same to Ralph. What do you expect?

  14. Someone is asking people to tell Rich they like his comments on his blog. I wouldn't put it past that someone to send them himself to Rich anonymously. Such a straight shooter right?...begging for acceptance. Take your biased politics and shove them where the observing don't shine

    1. Indeed. I saw Stan doing that.

  15. Patrick Connor, and his types, are symbolic of how sports talk radio has denigrated into a bunch of foul-mouth teenage boys trying to come-up one another.

  16. The Cloud Clowns had no choice. Both the Giants and 49ers have a very impressive female fan base, many of whom are one in the same rooting for all teams from the Bay to the Silicon Valley. Can't have piggy males anywhere on the airwaves, even though there are still a few remaining, including the pro-Hairpiece Bentley geezer.

    1. lol@female fan base. Let me correct you...bandwagon fan base that jump from team to team based on who is popular and winning at the time. You can find them at the stadiums doing selfies.
