*You're kinda rough on Neda Iranpour; No, just honest. She's good, decent and does a fairly solid job but I can't stand fake cackles and giggling. It comes across as phony and disingenuous. And her voice is rough. That's my opinion and that 's why you come here. If you don't like that maybe you should read Ben Fong Torres in the Chronicle.
*Why all the vitriol against KPIX and Dan Rosenheim? Because the station is an embarrassment. More specifically, their news operation is a joke and run by a guy who has no clue on how to manage a paper bag let alone a newsroom. KPIX is a CBS O and O station; you would figure, even in this day and age, they could find adequate reporters and anchors but instead they rely on Fresno trailer trash-looking mutants who don't even know the market. It's embarrassing. It's not indicative of a one-proud TV News station that had great talent and quality newscasts. KPIX has sunk to its lowest.
*Who do you like in the market? TV News, I'm a big Dan Ashley fan because he's consistently good and delivers a solid performance multiple times night after night. He also works hard and you can tell. I'm also a big Michael Finney fan because he's elevated the importance of Consumer Affairs and viewers love him. He's helped a lot of people too and has decades of work at one station. That's huge. I've become a Frank Somerville fan because I've finally found out that Frank is passionate and genuine and that his social media post come from the heart. I was late to the party on that but I'm in on it now. Frank is a pretty good anchor too and does a good interview. I have a lot of respect for Mark Ibanez too; he's been at KTVU almost 40 years and is the BEST writer in the market. And Mark is a good man too. Sandhya Patel makes weather interesting and is why I watch her weathercasts on KGO. She too works her butt off. Allie Rasmus and Cristina Rendon are up and comers at KTVU. When he first debuted, I had issues with Raj Mathai but I like him now and he's become a fixture at KNTV. Oh, I like Terry McSweeney too. Real solid and terrific at his craft.
*Why all the adulation over John Rothmann? Because he really does a great job and I love politics. Rothmann, especially in this Trump era, should be ON THE AIR every day; he knows what he's talking about I love listening to him; he's a walking encyclopedia on presidential politics and presidents in particular. Rothmann is refreshing too; plus the greatest set of pipes I've ever heard on radio. It's still mind-boggling the idiots that run KGO don't put him on their air but that's why KGO is nonexistent and irrelevant.
*Ray Taliaferro should be back on the air. I agree. But ain't gonna happen.
*You're always asking for donations and paid subscribers. Don't you think that's tacky? No, I don't. Believe it or not I have to pay bills too and have expenses like others. And it takes time and money to do this almost every day and therefore ask for money so I can keep doing this and have some money in the bank I don't think is tacky at all. What's tacky are all the people who give me shit about having the gall to solicit funds so I can eat every now and then. KQED is worth about $300 Million and they have pledge breaks every day --and my content is 10 times better then theirs.

Neda is happy that Michelle has not plunged the knife in her back yet.
ReplyDeleteKpix is unwatchable. Only dumb house pets would have it on that channel for background noise
ReplyDelete- 100% spot on regarding Owens
ReplyDelete- Iranpour's poor presentation - fake laughs - leads to.....
- The worsening disappointment that is DR PIX. How did Rosenheim convince CBS HQ to leave him alone? Was it contract related or does he have Hairpiece-like persuasion skills? (Which can often be read in a Dilbert comic strip.) Is CBS' ongoing phenomenal Prime Time success keeping DR off the hook? Until the ND changes, PIX won't change, unfortunately.
- Has Ashley & Finney's greatness kept Trixie quietly behaved? One would think if during Iger's visit, he met with Ashley & Finney and was given a scathing review about Trixie, that something would have been done about this. But we're talking contract hurdles again, aren't we!
- WOW! Very impressive 180-turn (or if your prefer, 360-turn) on Somerville! Never thought that would happen!
- Good for you about Ibanez. Correct me if I'm wrong, at KTVU, there is a very wide gap between Ibanez and his backups from a Lieberman viewpoint. I know you're not a Fonzi fan.
- Spot on about Patel. I'm trying to remember the RL views on the rest of Circle7's weather anchors. Also big on Argen. Not big on Nicco. And respect for Christian & Tuma?
- Yes on both Rasmus and Rendon
- Yes on both Mathai & McSweeney. Is the KNTV contract with the Giants more NBC Sports Bay Area related? Or did that change come because when FOX had American Idol, KTVU had to pick that over the Giants? Sounds like Lockstep Larry agrees with RL and many others about Mathai.
- Anthony doesn't deserve Rothmann. Nor do the Cloud Clowns.
- Taliaferro wants no part of the Cloud Clowns.
- I don't have the budget, and will never, ever trust PayPal (very, very spam- and spoof-prone, plus its founder Thiel is way too Hairpiece-cozy), but yes, Rich, if you have enough readers willing to donate when asked, by golly, keep asking!
- RL is honest with his followers. KQED, sadly, isn't. Big difference. The stories about mismanagement say it all.
- Not sure that Griego is in a position to do her O'Jays move anymore. With all the staff changes at PIX, Griego may be holding back from a backroom behavioral standpoint (not to mention that she may still struggle with Gonzales being gone).
- One final note: Lockstep Larry and NBCSBA. Hats off to Baer and the Giants for both their roster changes and farm system overhaul. Also for the respect for Mathai. But the North Bay Fire pledge messages from last fall make it clear that the Giants & NBCSBA want RL and many of us, including some other Giants diehards, to make a Somerville-like change about Amy G. Maybe Gutierrez needs to follow the example of Kerith Burke and her strong sideline work for the Warriors. Then perhaps we will gain a new perspective from inane to respected.
Of course Rich Lieberman is too insecure to post real comments from people who disagree with him.
ReplyDeleteAmen...yes John Rothmann and Ray Taliaferro should be on "somewhere" especially during this time...I always thought Ray was a bit radical, but compared to Trump??? Both men offer us all important ideas and concepts to talk about and actually ponder...what a waste land out there now...
ReplyDeleteThankfully no more Ray and his idiotic ramblings. Same with Bernie. Both need to stay off the computer.
ReplyDeleteNow, now...Ray was/is a beacon in the darkness, and his inspirational 'ramblings' kept many a night owl engaged and energized, reflecting and responding around the Bay Area as well as up & down the west coast of this great country of ours, along with parts of Canada & parts of Mexico. John, Ray, even Bernie would have a line open for even you, my good sir. Czech Ray out on youtube to determine if anything today on KGO or KSFO even comes close...
DeleteHUH????
DeleteSheldon. It's nothing personal against Ray or even Bernie. I don't wish Ill will or bad vibes. I just didn't like their shows or opinions. Sometimes they made some good points. By the way, I don't like Rush either.
DeleteI also know that late night radio can bring comfort.
Sheldon @ 3:15, you were one of the many bright spots listeners would welcome during Ray's show. Your passionate calls buoyed many a kindred spirit, including the host's! Long live Ray! And Bernie!
DeleteWhen did KPIX become CBS O&O? Did Westinghouse Broadcasting sell out to CBS? I know it's been a long time since I've seen mention of Westinghouse, but I don't stay up late enough for their sign-off, if they even do that sort of thing anymore.
ReplyDeleteViacom, CBS' parent company, acquired Westinghouse in late 1995. That's how KPIX became a CBS O&O. Despite DR's dulling efforts, PIX continues to be held at the same respect level as CBS' bigger affiliates - WCBS New York, KCBS-TV Los Angeles, WBBM Chicago, and KYW Philadelphia (who, of course, is celebrating the Eagles' Super Bowl victory the way KPIX did with the 49ers in the 1980s and 1990s, especially 1981 & 1989, when CBS aired Niner Super Bowl wins over the Bengals and Broncos, respectively).
Delete2:54, actually Westinghouse bought CBS in 1995 and changed its name to CBS Corporation 2 years later. Viacom bought CBS in 2000 (interestingly Viacom got its start when it was spun off from CBS back in 1970). In 2005, Viacom broke up into two separate companies - a new Viacom and CBS (which was the corporate successor to the old Viacom) - in 2005.
DeleteKTVU and KRON are failing big time on Trump. KTVU has the wildly biased national FOX news. SO bad,I see Frank Somersville keep his mouth shut on breaking news about what damage Trump has just done. KTVU Trump news is so shallow.
ReplyDeleteKRON? The news director has FOX news views with a CNN contract. So,as I said before Trump is buried deep into the second half hour. Plus its kept short.
One other tibit on KRON. Will Tran has fallen out of favor..its rare to see that guy. He's not the lead off story anymore. I wonder what happened? Cut in pay?
ConStanracy theory.
DeleteThey need to reopen Agnews. The whole "let them live among us" experiment has failed. Give them the help they need and deserve!
DeleteWhy 253? Was I tweeting at 3:30 am? ...Do I think Obama has tapped my phone?..do I ask others to taste my water first? Only eat McD? Did I see thousands of Muslims in 2001 cheering in the streets? Did I see the greatest assembly of humans EVER in mankind history lol.
DeleteDO I THINK TED CRUZ FATHER KILLED JFK!!!???
Whoo..I have more,but I'm tuckered out now.
KPIX. Again- a news team that can't get even create the illusion they care one bit about the other. I would say I see no teamwork on that team.
ReplyDeleteI actually like KPIX news at 5 and 6. That new music tho is ANNOYING.. WTF?!??
ReplyDeleteBack in Philly they played that exact same awful theme at the CBS O&O in the early NINETIES.
DeleteDick Lieberman tells the truth about a lot of things. If you can't handle it, go somewhere else. The comments he makes about that putz Lowenstein, the social media dweebs on ABC7, the lack of anything at KGONE Radio and KSFO, among others, are so dead on. Wake up people! Radio is in the shitter. It's probably like that in other markets too, but this is the Bay Area. It used to be good. It sucks now.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you on Ashley. He is good, but Somerville is better. Re: Finney -- not everyone is pleased with him. The
ReplyDeleteSF Irish community wish he would do his homework for the
St. Patrick's Day Parade. He has mailed it in the last few years.
Was at the gym watching KRON4 News, and the Chyron read VOLUNTEER TUDOR ARRESTED. And I thought, "Wow, you can volunteer to be a 16th-Century British royal? Sign me up!" Of course, the word they were looking for was "tutor". Something KRON's copy editor is obviously in need of.
ReplyDeleteKudos to you for continuing to criticize the awful KPIX. It's tease yesterday for the 5p during Judge Judy re-runs didn't contain any news, nothing that anyone who wasn't living in a cave the past 12 hours wouldn't know or have seen before. To put the Space X Rocket launch video in the tease, something that's been all over the internet and on every cable channel for hours, is just plain lazy.
ReplyDeleteI don't get the Neda controversy. Her voice is hoarse, so what? She's obviously a smoker (you can see the lines around her mouth) and smoking makes your voice raspy. You've never seen a smoker on television before?
ReplyDeleteIt's about management, silly..and who's running their HR? and why are they hiring who they are hiring. Got it?
DeleteAlso- a big demerit to KPIX/KRON especially-But not only- as people who tweet..and never answer. Not me,not anybody.
ReplyDeleteExcept Stanley Roberts- he of the strength of seven men can think for himself also. SALUTE TO STANLEY!
