Copeland: After Owens, He's Out Too on KGO Radio

Image result for Brian Copeland Brian Copeland, another KGO Radio talker and veteran of the station is out too. He announced it on his Facebook page.

Copeland follows Ronn Owens (who will only stay on in a limited 10-minute "report" M-F) Copeland, who does stand-up comedy and acting indicated the station wanted him to remain on air in "some capacity" but the specifics aren't known.

I'll have more analysis coming soon.

  4. Getting rid of the ONLY non-white host on all Cumulus stations on Martin Luther King weekend? That's not going to go over well at all. Copeland should have gotten Owens time slot. He filled in for him for years

  5. Copeland is a one trick pony; Trump bad. Glad to see him go. No more self help crap, bad comics, and other wastes of time listening to him repeat himself over and over. Go away.

    1. So true. The same can be said for Thurston and Langan.

    2. Brian was not a one trick pony, and as for the self help crap, listen to Ethan Bearman with his diet advise and similar. Brian talked local issues, his battle with depression, and interviewed a lot of celebrities, I heard him interviewing John Mathis, Ben Vereen, the daughter of Grace Slick and others. His one hour once a week with other comic was a little hit and miss, but I often found them funny. I don't care for Langan she falls in the Chip Franklin and Ethan Bearman category, too light weight, not staying on one topic for long, and generally cannot hold my attention. Ronn could, Brian could as can John and Pat, especially John.

  6. This is another bad decision by KGO management. I was not surprised that Ronn basically is retiring, if you listened to him on a regular basis you could tell he often had trouble recalling words or couldn't pronounce them correctly. I had hoped against hope that management would have chosen to put someone intelligent on, like Pat or John Rothmann, my vote would be for John and keeping Pat on for week-ends. With Ethan being on from 10 to noon, leaves few choices for those of us who cannot stomach right wing hosts. I cannot listen to Rush, I have at times turned in to Dennis Prager (usually when Ronn talked gadgets or similar) and am not a fan. He is always going on about how the left and progressive are destroying America, can't even list all the things he thinks are wrong with the left, most of it not true, as far as I can tell. Since I lean left I don't feel like getting insulted all the time. The friends I have who lean left as well as myself, are all hard working, financially responsible people, who do not expect or rely on hands out from the Government, and when making decisions base it on facts rather than emotions, which is what Prager claims.

I use to watch Dr. Drew Pinsky on his TV show and liked him, we'll see how he will do as a radio host, I will give him a try, but I already listen to either Michael Medved or Tom Sullivan at that hour, and like them both.

Having Chip Franklin on for 4 hours and also Armstrong and Getty is just too much. Brian Copeland often got a bad rap from Rich and other commenters here, but I for the most part liked his show. Certainly he was much better than Ethan and Chip, he did a fairly serious show, he talked local issues and had local politicians on, and as for him exploiting being black, I don't think that is far. He had a different perspective on race issue because he is black and I like to hear his take on those issues. He certainly talked no more about being black, than Michael Medved and Dennis Prager talks about being Jewish.

    1. I so agree with much of what you say. I've been a very long time KGO listener + 25 years. I will miss Ronn and understand that after 42 years, time for a change.
I will never understand putting Ethan in that spot - so agree - some intellect would have been great and John or Pat would have been my first choices.
So now - it's the KeyStone cops - Armstoopid and Creepy - without the intellect and charisma . Ethan is too painful to listen too - I've already raised my kids, don't want to go thru his growth spurts - man baby.
Dr Drew - agreed, I'll give him a change (though 1pm is Fresh Air with Terry Gross on NPR, always a great show) the Chip - ugh, rudimentary juvenile bathroom humor just isn't my thing.
So, thanks KGO - I'm much better off listening to NPR and KPFA.
Love you Ron - and Miss and enjoyed you Brian!

    2. Sooooo they keep that awful not funny chump Franklin and his braying irritating women but dump Brian after over 20 years? And they have owens doing these short "opinion " pieces? Also Ronn retire - like years ago. You babble and rattle on. Can't even get what you are talking about.and, no one can respond to you. We are done with you. Thank god for iheart. Sad sad sad

    3. I'm more or less w/you, especially the John Rothman--mornings and Pat Thurston--weekends concept.

Brian, Pat, and John are, pretty much, the only recent/current KGO on-air personalities I find compelling enough to try to tune in to at a specific time; as opposed to randomly checking to see if whomever happens to be on is discussing something I might be interested in.

BTW, I recently sent an email of complaint to Mike McVay ( Mike.McVay@cumulus.com ) the Cumulus executive in charge of this region.

He just wrote back (Sun, Apr 22, 2018 at 4:34 PM):
" ... we are working to bring Brian back and have been having conversations with his agent. Give us another week and we should be able to make an announcement."

      We shall see.

  7. "Copeland, indicated the station wanted him to remain on air in some capacity"
That is utter and complete false.
Brian Copeland is not fooling anyone.
He was summarily fired. End of story.
    Face the music Copeland.

    1. Are you saying Copeland will not be on filling in on weekends?

If they fired him he would not be on at all. Weekdays or weekend.

  12. Is Dinovite and Kars for kids gone too? How will Mattress Firm stay in business? Will Steve the tax lawyer survive without the listener tax cheats doing business with his firm? I won't be listing anymore and I mean it this time!

  13. Wow, unless they eventually fold John Rothman and Pat Thurston into the vacancies nothing left of the once great KGO. Seriously, the lame Lamont and Tonelli wannabe A&G show, followed by whiny Ethan and dickhead Chip is all us talkshow people in the middle get? GREAT JOB, Cumulus. You came in like "Chainsaw Al” Dunlap and ran KGO into the ground :-(.

    1. Get out of your SF Bubble...KGO was failing years ago...the audience was trending younger and most of these ancient folks just needed to go. A & G are awesome... listened to them for almost 20 years...I agree about Ethan...if I have to listen about that Shifu Wang Bo...one more time...ugg...or how sugar is killing me...it's always something killing me...stop preaching to me and talk about the issues whiney millennial...Copeland gone...awesome...now just get rid of Chip...he wants us all to vote again and pick Hilary...doesn't want to discuss the fact she is a criminal as much as Trump.

Chip Franklin is too much of " not " funny and Armstrong & Getty are just oy vey terrible . I think its primarily the length of time they take up and their inability to stay fresh . Ronn going was a long time comin' and Copeland not particularly interesting enough for the changing landscape of the richest Bed and Breakfast in the world the Bay Area - The Asian community as well as the Latino community have been left out of the picture for too long on Talk Radio and continue to be. KGO just kind of sucks right now .

  17. Dislike Dr. Drew. Do not listen to KGO until 3:00 because I do like Mr. Franklin and his cohorts.

  18. Get rid of Chip Franklin who can't get his information correct and hates white people. I know he is white, but doesn't care for his own race. His program is awful, stopped listening to that time slot. Now that Ron is gone, no reason to listen to KGO radio. Bring back ":I'm a Lawyer and the people that had something worthwhile to talk about. Like John Rothman, but the women too too left.

  19. I know it is hard to tell the difference between Cumulus radio and Charmin TP but this might help. It is easier to poke a hole in Cumulus (shallow) then it is in Charmin (2 ply).
