Burton's New Gig Not a Promotion

Image result for bill burton kgo YES, ex- KGO-TV GM Bill Burton is headed to a high top ABC network position; most 900 Front natives are kicking the floor. They can't contain their excitement. Industry observers call it a "promotion."

I call it a move dictated by disappointing numbers, an "under-performing" station that the big boss wasn't crazy about and wanted change.

And change is coming. We're still trying to nail down the rumor mill about Trixie's new gig --(or not) --stay tuned.

    1. There isn't, she isn't.

She'll be running all of Disney one day. She's just how they like them: heartless and mean.

  2. ABC has a long history of parking television GMs every few years. They go off to sales, sports or some project. I know one GM who was placed in charge of sales for the o and o's; another who ran ESPN in the early years that ABC acquired it. It may not be a promotion, but it ain't a pay cut. And promoting the news director to GM is also very common in the ABC station group. The changes reflect a market refresh with new GMs at all the owned stations in the Bay Area. Less to this than meets the eye.

That sampling of John Denver's "Country Road" was HORRIBLE!!!!
I had to change the station or throw my radio out the bedroom window. Please cease and desist!!!

    1. Oh, C'mon, 9:15 AM!

I don't like A&G. But, I had the car radio on, while I was waiting for the SF street sweeper to go by.

The point was that it was SUPPOSED to be bad. They were doing a fund-raiser for some charity. They said that their "audio assault," would last, until they reached a certain goal, in fund-raising.

I'm not a fan ... but, even I thought it was pretty funny.

We have to lighten up, sometimes.

    2. Since you listen also, there's this.
Positive Sean. Sean has arguably the best voice on that show. Very full and masculine. I'd bet anything that he also has a good singing voice, unlike that older guy who was trying to sing as a joke. But you barely ever hear him say anything unless he's reading something. People who are shy by nature don't usually go into talk radio, unless it's just to 'work the knobs and switches'. I miss Vince, of course, but I was hoping to hear Sean step up and speak up.
As it is now, Sean is not adding very much to the show.
I would be surprised if he's still on the A&G team by the end of next June.

  4. A & G are so bad nobody can tell if they're supposed to be funny or serious.
