A Few November Sweeps Notes

Image result for Local tv news sweeps 2017 November Sweeps are in and the big winner?

In key demographics its KTVU (Fox 2). Why? Indirectly, its linked to the "cult" following of Sal Castaneda and Steve Paulson. To KTVU's credit, these two morning yentas have been left alone to slow cook a "loyal" following from Walnut Creek to Willits for more than a decade. The "experts" will tell you the  AM channel on the remote is typically  the PM channel.

But KTVU newsroom storm clouds are brewing. Sal the Diva with a control freak GM. Stay tuned.

The big loser? Hands down its KNTV (NBC Bay Area).  Flashy promos, roulette anchor changes, and a bloated We Investigate cast and crew that's generated bumpkis. KNTV spends more than a gazillion bucks on this endeavor yet hovers in the basement. Introducing a new AM anchor in November? Sophomoric management.

Even deep pockets Comcast will eventually dump We Investigate gotcha journalism. Yes, it worked for Mike Wallace and Geraldo when I was spinning disco records on K-101.

  1. One sad trend? Woman in the media don't answer a compliment like they used to...3 weeks ago, lol. Sad huh? Are we headed to prudish Victorian days? "Madame! cover that ankle!" Could be.

  2. Because of the STUPID 'what to wear' on the weather! With the pictures of coat, sweater etc...!! What a waste of time/space etc!!!

  3. I don't believe for one second that a traffic guy who looks like he probably still gets stuffed into his own locker has a cult following or gets fanmail from horny housewives. Obviously rumours and hearsay spread by Sal himself.
    LOL, it's _traffic_...give me a f*cking break.

  6. Stan: Your idea of a compliment might not be their idea of a compliment. The word 'Nice' is acceptable...as long as the next word is not '@$$'.

  7. Sal Castenada doesn't have a following in Walnut Creek. Walnut Creek is much too sophisticated for that. Castro Valley or San Pablo maybe, but Walnut Creek, no way.

  8. No surprise about KNTV. Between Jessica's annoying delivery and weatherman Jeff's obnoxious bombast and BINGO card forecast graphics (because, you know, maps are hard), I can't watch any of their news. The B-team is even worse.
