In the meantime I have new information from sources telling 415 Media the South bay NBC 'O and O' newsroom is in an uproar over Nguyen's attempt to get interviews via social media. "This is outrageous," a station source confided to me. "There's a way to do it and there's a way not to; she (Vicky) clearly was way out of bounds."
Insiders tell me the station management is scrambling to deal with the fallout from Nguyen's contacting minors below the age of 18 both on-line and in person without first seeking parental permission.
A leaked e-mail critical of Nguyen sent to the station from a high-up Presentation High official was obtained by 415 Media: In it, a top-level school rep rips into Nguyen and NBC Bay Area:
Some girls are now feeling anxious to wear their school uniforms in public for fear of being approached by an NBC11 reporter. We can’t believe NBC11 would countenance this type of behavior from a news reporter.Nguyen likes to post everything on Social Media but she hasn't posted this formal complaint against her; gees, what a coincidence. What, is she hiding something? Perhaps a great deal.
**
This brouhaha continues to spark outrage in the South Bay and isn't going away anytime soon; we'll keep you up to date with any breaking news.
Stick with 415 Media for the latest.
It sounds like her days could be numbered. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteI hear Excelsior Nails is hiring.
DeleteA couple of things about this post and the previous one have a somewhat fishy smell.
ReplyDeleteIf the leaked email from the high school is real, let's put a name on it. That way we'll know whether it is someone truly in a position of authority or just some clown mouthing off.
Next' stories are assigned by managers. Reporters can and do bring suggestions and ideas, but whether or not they get is a decision made by higher ups.
Asking for interviews via social media? Nothing new here. It happens from the lowliest weekly local newspaper to the New York Times and Wall Street Journal.
Finally, the people "on the inside" who complain about the stories, the management and whatever else, recognize that for what it is. Most likely the complaint is vastly over the top as is their jealousy. The jealousy is because they don't like their job or assignments and believe that only they can do the job better.
What law or ethical rule did she break? Just because you don't like the approach. I would have a problem if it was a male reporter...but no problem because it's a female.
ReplyDeleteNo double standard...just common sense. Reporters contact under age people all the time about stories, maybe next time she won't be so "public" about her contacts.
Reporters don't need permission to talk to your children...they don't even need your permission to put them on the news.
Otherwise she was doing her job.
It sounds like she may be out of a job. It happens when a reporter gets overly aggressive. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteLongtime local radio host Melanie Morgan, wife of radio programmer and executive Jack Swanson of KCBS came out today about how Democratic Senator Al Franken harassed her multiple times in the past. This is following the revelation earlier today (and picture) of Al Franken groping a sleeping woman on a USO plane flight in the past (after sexually harassing her). Will Rich Lieberman 415 media give this news its rightful spotlight in the form of a blog posting? Here is a link to additional evidence: http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/11/16/longtime-bay-area-radio-anchor-melanie-morgan-al-franken-harassed-me-over-political-argument/
ReplyDeleteYou mean the fog of alcoholism and gambling addiction has lifted at this critical moment and she suddenly remembers this??? Norm Coleman wishes it could've been back in 2008. I call gaslighting - Bannon
DeleteRich: Anything on Melanie Morgan and Al Franken harassment besides AOL News?
ReplyDeleteIs this really a big deal? A request to talk about something? Isn't the bigger deal here what could be happening at the school?Like under age girls in trouble? I've seen her work, she appears to be smart and good at it. I wonder if in a few weeks we are all going to be talking about the school and what a good job she did with her report. Aggressive reporting is a good thing, right?
ReplyDeleteWow, vastly differing opinions about whether her actions were appropriate or not. I have no idea what is SOP or not.
ReplyDeleteI like Vicky, she has a sexy name. There is another Vicky at KRON, she is sexy also!! Two beautiful women...no complaint here.
ReplyDeleteKRON's Vicky is Vickie.
DeleteOooops, please accept my apology. That's my, "I are stupid" for the month. Always thought it was a sexy name. A non-sexy name...Mildred! Did I spell that right?
DeleteEveryone is entitled to a least one "I are stupid" a month, I never miss a month!
There is nothing "formal" about this complaint.
ReplyDeleteSick of all this harassment B.S., movie stars, politicians and humans. Vicky did nothing wrong, I bet her cousin Chris from KGO 7 won't do something like this, too nice of a reporter.
ReplyDeleteNot a good look, this is really disturbing if everything is true. I won't give my neighbor kid a soda unless I hand it to a parent.
ReplyDeleteSo she just aired a story about harassment at Presentation, it was very strong. Her reporting is legit and the content is eye opening. The amoral stuff here looks like it's falling on the schools plate, not Nguyen's. With all this buzz, there is no way she is on the outs.
