Dan Rosenheim |
Her PIX ND and CBS boss, Dan Rosenheim, and Gonzales were hardly buddies.
In fact, Rosenheim hated her. Couldn't stand her. He frequently battled her.
"They were like 'fire and ice'", said a CBS-SF Insider.
Of course, Rosenheim said all the right things when it was announced by Roby that she was leaving after 21 years.
What else was he going to say?
I'm not speculating that Roberta was pushed out but D.R. but she sure as heck wasn't encouraged to stay on a few more years which she could have easily done.
Rosenheim never cared for Gonzales' showboating and gamesmanship --he thought she was way over the top only he could have made her professional life more miserable but was held back by top station officials. In addition, Rosenheim also acknowledged Gonzales had a (still) sizable following and didn't want to rock the boat. He also knew that any official act of kicking her out the door was risking the wrath of viewers who still like Roberta.
The only story you're getting now is that of the cheery Gonzales starting her new travel show and production company ...the story you aren't getting is the one behind the scenes that accelerated Gonzales' decision to split 855 Battery.
Until now.
I liked Roberta...
ReplyDeletebut just like Jessica Aguirre, waaaay too much plastic surgery.
Time to go for both of them.
Roberta will have more time to hit the Livermore bars with her fellow 55 year-old divorcee Jessica.
Ro is a couple of years north of 55. Heck of an athlete, though, especially at that age.
DeleteGood riddance and good for Dan. The woman was a phony empty shell. Now can we dump Hackney?
ReplyDeleteRoberta is ok and Brian Hackney a great personality
Delete"Now can we dump Hackney?"
DeleteYes, please.
It's the end of the Fiscal year at most TV stations. The next few day is when people leave or get canned (traditionally) in the biz world.
ReplyDeleteClosing out this years books...to make room for the new year...and all the Christmas Joy broadcasters bring us.
(gack)
Ro was going to eventually go no matter what, but PIX still has the DR dilemma and it would be very disappointing if CBS HQ in NY decided not to do a thing about his plight no matter the cost. DR is clearly making the station worse off, and were it not for the network's outstanding Prime Time programming, he might have been shown the door by now.
ReplyDeleteSo KPIX morning already a show that is bad now lost the only energetic voice. Back to Michelle and Kenny putting all the viewers into a coma.
ReplyDeleteDR low balled her and she walked
ReplyDeleteShe had a heck of a run.. Her contract was up in June. Perhaps negotiations to re up weren't going well and she opted to reinvent herself.. Now, who will be taking her place. I suspect Hackney take over or perhaps they will plug in Neda Iranpour who filled in for her just recently for two weeks while Roberta was on vacation..
ReplyDeleteHackney is awful, and Iranpour is even worse.
DeleteHackney, the best anchor in the Bay Area, won't be the replacement because he intimidates 'Muricans like Rich who are afraid of anyone who can read without moving their lips and who eats with a knife and fork. In Europe he'd just be another guy but here anyone who can't talk sports and wear a jersey is intimidating.
DeleteHackney isn't the best anchor, he is the boat anchor in Bay Area television. He tries to disguise the sad combination of awkwardness and drabness with a supercilious facade. The Hack is a twit who pretends like he has wit.
DeleteThere are those sorry characters out there, however, who buy into Hack's professorial act. The drab/dorky persona, bad puns, pompous tone, and interesting sounding (but not always accurate) "factoids" appeal to the folks who are easily impressed with Hackney's ridiculous pseudo-sage charade.
I never noticed Roberta was gone until she came back. That doesn't say much about Neda Iranpour...and I'm a Robie fan...
DeleteBrian is Way better than this newbie neda, she won't last, not if she keeps on as is ,after 21 years if she had the opportunity to go out on her own, then kudos 2 Ro, she can do it, she has the talent and the drive to get this done and make it happen, morning newscast not the same without Ro
DeleteSeems more like her contract was NOT renewed!
ReplyDeleteDano should see this as a loss. There is no personality or star power at kpix. This is a station that is almost allergic to hiring locals and people of color. And no, I dont consider that fake blonde weather lady who filled in with big bags under her eyes and skin more wrinkled than my shirt as a good hire.
ReplyDeleteThey will get someone from a small market who will mispronounce ALL the names like always
They are definitely going to lose morning viewership with Ro gone, don't know whose bright idea it eas to put this neda in her slot, but kpix it wasn't a smart choice, even Julie filling in 4 the newbie is a better option
DeleteI heard Roberta announce her departure on KCBS in the AM Thurs. She said that in the past few years she lost both parents, her brother, and a beloved dog. Per Rich she has gone through a recent divorce. That's enough to make anyone pause in life. Am not sure that the conflict with the ND played as big a factor. Coupled with the fact media is not kind to middle age women (note the comments in this blog), Ro made a good decision. She' been there, done that with weather. I understand why people don't like her delivery tone but she deserves plaudits for her skill in making the weather report sound interesting and noteworthy. Compare her text with that of Martin on Ch. 2 -- big, big difference. (Deanno is good at it too.) Thanks for "energizing" the weather, Ro. Best of luck in your new venture!
ReplyDeleteI was unaware of Roberta's personal challenges. Roberta's perky demeanor actually was nice on KCBS during the morning commutes which as you know was brutal so I wish her well.
DeleteNot so fast! Everyone goes through life's struggle's, we all lose parents, siblings a dog. No excuses for an overpriced, loud mouth weather guesser.
DeleteThose who didn't like Ro's way of presenting the weather in a word were just jealous of her, the very day she found out of the death of her father, she didn't just take off and split, like the professional that Ro is, she carried on and delivered the newscast, and unless U had seen her post b4 airtime you wouldn't have even known how torn up inside she was, @Kerr she lost her father to cancer & as to her sibling as U put it, her brother was the victim of a random bullet at too young an age
DeleteMy first question was "Did she jump or was she pushed?" I think the latter, but I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteIt's time for Dano to leave too. What's he done for KPIX? NOTHING!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat news!!! I'm rather shocked that she is leaving. She seems to love what she does and loves herself even more. You made my year with this news. Robbie, don't let the screen door hit you on your way out.
ReplyDeleteRemember when KGO TV weather caster Pete Giddings "retired"? KGO made it into a big event even broadcasting a retrospective. He didn't retire, his wife even came out and said so in the press. He ended up at a station in Reno, bounced around a little bit and is now doing weather casting from his own website.
ReplyDeleteShe should have been fired years ago the night of CBS5 Christmas party when she was wasted doing the 11pm weather. Go bye RoGo! Now my dog will stop howling at 6 in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI've followed this site on and off for a little while now. Only thing I have to say is going anonymous and talking shit. What a bunch of pussies...
ReplyDeleteYup. I just saw Ro on a commercial for Sunnyvale Ford so I just googled why she left just now. Didn't know there was soooo many haters about her upbeat style. I hope the haters are taking their daily meds. #closeyoureyesandletgo.
