Mark Ibanez Delivers The Sports (And News) Quite Nicely on KTVU

Image result for mark ibanez kidsLET ME TELL YOU a few things about Mark Ibanez. He's been at KTVU for nearly 40 years; one of the nicest and most talented sports and news anchors in the Bay Area. Best thing about Mark is that he's real and genuine, not an insincere bone in the body.

Ibanez is one of the best writers at his craft. He's also quite versatile as the veteran personality has done news anchoring too and is extremely adept; it's not that easy a transition from sports to news but Ibanez pulls it off effortlessly.

Ibanez doesn't have to showboat or mug the camera like others; he's good enough where ego doesn't trump output. You normally come here and look forward to my ripping someone, but I can't rip Mark Ibanez so you'll have to suffer with something positive today; what a shame.

And that's the sporting life.

  1. Good morning Rich, I couldn't agree with you more about Mark. He just does his job. That being said, who are your top 2 news anchors, 1 traffic reporter, and 1 meteorologist?

    1. Mark is good but in a story on 9/1 he kept referring to the former Cleveland Cavalier, Kyrie Irving, as Kyle...Several times...It's not like he is some little know player that you might make this mistake, but a top player that EVERYONE who follows basketball knows...Kyrie, Mark...

  2. Another well respected long time anchor at KTVU after Dennis Richmond. They were a great team making KTVU 10:00 News the best in Bay Area.

Would you say Gary Radnich the worse?

Along with Mark, Julie Haener and Ken Wayne belong on the list of current KTVU greats. They're both highly respected veterans who present the news in a credible, straightforward manner free of breathless hysterics.

  3. Good sports guy, but I don't know how he fits through the door with that ego. And Fonzi and the other guys are just as good, and nicer.

  4. Ibanez has that genuine "cool" about him. Raj Matthai had that same kind of cool also when he did sports a while back. I'm trying to think who has that genuine cool now on our airwaves... none come to mind. I like Radnich... but no he does not have that swagger- as much as he would like to. I'm watching Paulson now... Yeah I'd throw him in having that coolness too.

  5. Hope this guy doesn't get lopped off because he's been there for a long time and makes too much money. The Fox bean counters would love to have some green rookie from Fargo who makes a fraction of what he makes in his chair.

  6. Mark is cool, although the Leslie Griffith hook up was a mistake. He can do better.

    1. Leslie was very talented but came across as a bitch.

  7. Mark is a nice guy off-camera, and he has a pleasant presence on-air.

  10. Just curious - I like this blog because it allows me to keep tabs on the Bay Area scene from afar, and I enjoy knowing some of those from my youth are still going strong - or in most cases from what I read hear - coasting and past their prime.
Anyone new to the area in TV or radio who would have been decent back when the Bay Area had strong TV and radio personalities?
