WEDNESDAY PM WASH*I've written about the war between KCBS' Stan Bunger and ex-KGO tonsil, Jon Bristow and it's getting worse.
Bristow clearly is breathing down the back of Bunger, and while Stan recently signed a multi-year extension, Bristow is clearly itching to become the morning drive co-anchor.
How much so? Bristow is playing the nice-guy game; not that he was as jerk but he's not as golly-gee as he's become now. In other words, Bristow, (Mr. Pipes) is shaking hands with everyone and kissing management's behind (metaphorically speaking) to eventually become #1 in the morning along side the misty windshield, Susan Leigh Taylor.*More KCBS: if you listen regularly to the all-news 740 AM outlet you know they're really pushing the weather-heavy "KCBS 'Insta-View" --that's its new mega-camera gauntlet that the big suits want mentioned several times --listeners miss the airborne division but that's life.
The instaview is bullshit. It's CalTrans cameras many can see on their own computer on the internet. An airborne plane is still the best way to see crashes and slowdowns. All about saving money.
ReplyDeleteBring in Bristow and jennifer jones Lee. Bet they won't say "KCBS news time____" every 40 seconds. Heard Carolyn Burns doing sports the another night. God awful at traffic on KGO, kept saying "there". And of course she did a sports replay. Must be a new idiotic mandate at 15 and 45.

DeleteInsta-View is just the Caltrans camera network which in itself is pretty ghetto as far as cams go.
ReplyDeleteThose traffic planes are really needed in Socal...Norcal can survive on cams, road sensors and the phone-pharce.
I disagree: SoCal doesn't need the cameras, either.

Anytime you're down in LA, just tune in the KNX 1070AM...they do a kick-ass job with their traffic reporting.
Having said that about KNX, one might even argue that even it is not needed; that you can just assume that here is traffic on any goddamn LA freeway...and that you should simply add an hour/hour-and-a-half to any travel plans you make.
