Houston is Under Siege And KNBR's Brian Murphy Asks Mike Krukow About Astros' Playoff Situation (Audio)

Image result for Houston storm HOUSTON is hell on earth; a city of millions (4th largest in US) dealing with a 500-year storm, Hurricane Harvey; its citizens in knee-deep water and facing an epic crisis that's going to get worse before it gets better.

With all this as a background, listen to lame-brain KNBR morning host and lost-in-space, Brian Murphy, who had the chutzpah to ask ex-Giants' pitcher, Mike Krukow about how the mega storm would "affect the Houston Astros playoff chances" (audio --click toward the end of audio stream)

After a few brief reasonable anecdotes, Krukow went back into jock mode and began saying the storm could in fact "unite the team" -- huh?--I'm sure the 95-year-old elderly woman who was rescued by first responders, is worried about the Astros' chances in the post-season.

Murphy tempered his remarks by saying "this is all secondary to the tragedy" --well, then, Murph, why the hell bring it up in the first place and if so doing, why not just say "there are things BIGGER than sports now" and shut the heck up.

Krukow too has to be called out for lamely trying to inject how awful things can bring teams together. It's much, much too early to be talking Astros playoffs when a city is under siege, literally.

  1. It is a sports station Rich. The guest was one of the team's announcers. Should they have discussed FEMA, the president or weather forecasts? That is for another station and format.

  2. Brian Murphy does sports. That's what he does. No one turns on their radio to KNBR to hear what Brian Murphy has to say about Houston floods.

  3. I don't tune to KNBR to get the latest news on Hurricanes. There are many other sources for that information.

  4. Murphy is impressed with himself. He's an ass!

  5. Really Rich? Really? You can be so sanctimonious sometimes. It is a sports talk show. Even if they reference a tragedy such as Houston, it will be in the context of sports. By the way, they did refer to it in a serious vein and encouraged listeners to donate to the Red Cross. That's enough ..

  6. I see most of the commenters so far are in agreement with my post that Rich didn't pass through. You want hurricane coverage? Turn on CNN and listen to them somehow find a way to blame the arrival of the hurricane on Trump. Or the KGO fill in hosts in the evenings. I'm sure it's all Paul Ryan's fault somehow.

    1. Or Fox where they found a loony pastor who is blaming god's fury on Obama.

  7. I tuned in to The Weather Channel...and they didn't have ANYTHING on the Astros' playoff outlook!

Nothing on Carlos Correa's injury...or what's wrong with McCullers. NOTHING!

Hell...they didn't even have anything about the QB situation for the Texans...anything about if it'll be DeShaun Watson, or Savage. AGAIN...NOTHING!!!

I will never watch TWC again!

    1. You think TWC is bad?, try watching HSN or QVC. Nothing about sports or the weather, ever! Seems to be one continuous commercial about selling stuff. No movies either!

  8. Kinda funny that Mike Krukow would suggest that a natural disaster would unite a team... it didn't do much for the '89 Giants, who were so united after the earthquake that they got swept by the A's.

    1. Hurricane Bash, and Storms Stew and Hendu, blew a good Giants team off the field that year.

  9. You're trying too hard to find things to complain about, Rich.

  10. Yeah Rich- the sports station bringing in the sports angle, no matter how trivial to the more important issues, is a welcome distraction and sports "news worthy". A little "Cranky ol manish" on this one Rich... Don't trip, we all go "there" from time to time. :)

  11. I'm surprised Krukow didn't do his Giants part by talking about what the Giants are going to do to help Houston. It's not meant to be helpful, unless you're talking about how the Giants want to help themselves, as per usual.

    1. Whether one likes the Giants or not, there is no denying that their organization is involved with numerous charities.

  12. Rich, you should be commended for allowing these alternative views to yours get posted. It makes for a much better and honest site/blog!!

  13. I thought Krukow was talking more about how a natural disaster could unite a community. Also, during yesterday's radio broadcast Dave Flemming talked at length with Jon Miller regarding the welfare of the hurricane victims and encouraging folks to give to the Red Cross.

  14. I agree with Rich in how the talkers tried to tie the tragedy to the Astros and Krukow's ill attempt to prematurely state that this would bring the Astros together. It was ridiculous commentary on both ends.

  15. Not just KNBR. The entire Bay Area media is talking AntiFA, Alt Right, and giving lunatic fringe groups air time while Houston suffers and North Korea fires a missile over Japan.

  16. Since that photo, its rained for at least three more days and about the same to go.
One graph I saw hinted at 100 inches will fall in places. That can't be right.

  19. Complain all you want,Rich, and I will back you up. My youngest son who is a oil trader in Houston was coming back from a 4 day weekend in Cancun and he could not get home. He and his new wife had no idea what condition his new home was in. We got him and his wife tickets to Dallas, then his company took over and flew them to Wichita so he could work at the headquarters for his company and do the work of 15 people in his group. He went to work on Monday with salsa stains on a pair of pants because he and his wife only took beach wear to Cancun. In fact, one other person in his Houston office wss flown from a different location and he arrived at work wearing a pair of pants of his mother-in-law. His home is undamaged, my downpayment is intact, because he does not live in a flood are. Sports are important at some point for stress relief but lives are more important. Houston is a city of 6 million people.
Remember the 1989 7.2 earthquake? I was 9 months pregnant with this kid. We made it through, the bay area made it, and after several days the world series was restarted to keep people's mind off of the disaster. Everyone stop with your complaints and send some money to the Red Cross, salvation army, or if you are type O blood, donate. Peace.
