IT Doesn't seem possible that it's been almost ten years Dennis Richmond retired from KTVU --my how time flies...Richmond has spent his free time away from the media scene in massive reclusiveness --he'll make a rare TV appearance tonight (Friday) between 5 and 6PM on KTVU News. Richmond is in town to emcee the "Friends of Faith" (Fancher) breast cancer fundraiser Saturday night at the Oakland Marriott.
I often think Richmond left the scene much too soon despite him leaving on his own volition.
Not so long ago I wrote that Dennis wasn't exactly courted by the then, Cox Media-owned KTVU, to stay on a few more years before retiring. I'm not a hundred percent sure but those in the know insist, had KTVU asked him to stay on, he might have agreed to an arrangement --A. KTVU surely could have used him, and B. Richmond, although battling a few health issues, was still at the top of his game.
*It's been nonstop talk about what will happen tomorrow (Saturday) at the much-publicized
UPDATE: The protest has been cancelled but there's still some feeling the counter-protesters might show up anyway.
*The new PD for the AM Sports Radio station (I will refrain from naming station because they stink) made a first move by hiring an ex-jock, Kevin Frandsen, who is just plain awful. Frandsen is real good at mumbling --he doesn't say anything of real importance and substance but since he played baseball the PD thinks he's a genius. He's embarrassing actually (and cheap too) and makes a fool of himself. I purposely have avoided the new show on radio in the night because I would probably elevate my already high blood pressure listening to that carp --already I've heard enough from readers who said it's mush.
QUICK HITS##
*KPIX new reporters-- seriously, where do they find these lightweights?
*Melissa Caen: see above.
*I don't mean to pile on Caen but she's a complete cream puff, lightweight is too nice. I've watched her and try to be objective and fair. She says nothing. She doesn't add anything, not a thing. She can't ad-lib worth a damn. And her reporting is just average at best yet PIX is so desperate to find a star they're going out of their way to promote Caen. And again, I ask: if she were Melissa "Johnson" would she even be on TV? Yeah, so Caen has political credentials, great, unfortunately that doesn't make for good TV. Maybe I'll be proved wrong down the road.
*As long as were talking lightweights, lets add KTVU's Azenith Smith to the list. More wonder bread material but you get what you pay for.
*KRON UPDATE: sort of a "we got all this new money from corporate so we can make the place look more alive" but you can't resurrect the dead. Even Shirley Maclaine would give thumbs-down to the ragtag group on the Embarcadero. You've heard about Shirley, right?
*Hey, Copie Copeland--at least when I rip you (professionally) I don't HIDE behind Internet chat rooms and post anonymous bullshit like you do, coward.
Copeland is an insufferable blowhard who made it on the local scene because a long, long time ago, Kevin O'Brien needed to make points with the FCC.
Now KGO Radio is stuck with him. Birds of a feather...
*YOU'VE ALWAYS wanted to get even with your ex-spouse --call her, text her: "Hey honey, I'm taking you out to dinner Saturday night in the city near the Marina Green!"
Dennis Richmond, imo, best damn achor this market ever had.
ReplyDeleteSure, he demanded excellence from those around him...Wouldn't tolerate anything less Which makes me respect him even more.
"Dennis Richmond wouldn't know a story if it bit him in the ass." Fred Zehnder, his boss at KTVU. I was in the room.
DeleteAre you talking about Dennis Richmond or the "Soup Nazi?"
DeleteYes. Well either that or he was a narcissist with a huge ego.
DeleteYes. Nobody could read a teleprompter like that man. Even Obama. His skills at reading off a teleprompter paled in comparison to the mighty Dennis Richmond.
Delete> *KPIX new reporters-- seriously, where do they find these lightweights?
ReplyDeleteBestBuy.
Rich, Katie Nielsen paid a lot of money to that doctor to not be called a lightweight.
DeleteSeriously, what do you expect from a reporter who was named after the television that was on while her daddy inseminated her mommy ... yes, A zenith.
ReplyDeleteCopeland. Yes, an ass.
ReplyDeleteAnd he finds any situation or quip to tun a half hour to bash trump He reaches far and wide to find the most mundane issues and it gets old old, Really tiring.
DeleteWoot, Rich got mentioned in an article on the East Bay Times (Oakland Tribune) website.
ReplyDelete"Richmond’s TV appearance, which was first reported by Bay Area media blogger Rich Lieberman, comes more than nine years after the anchor signed off for the final time during an emotional broadcast on May 26, 2008 at the age of 65."
Rich-I just saw at 5:30 pm Dennis Richmond talking to Frank & Julie. Unfortunately Dennis looked haggard especially his face. He said he had 4 back(spinal cord) surgeries since he retired from KTVU back in 2008 & does not want to go under the knife again. Fortunately Dennis still can work out at the gym & lift weights. He lives in Grass Valley with his wife. Keep up the great work Rich!
ReplyDeleteJust saw him on KTVU....he looks much, much older...he explained that he has had at least 4 surgeries on his back. Can't believe that with all his back surgeries that he is still going to the gym daily to "lift weights"..
ReplyDeleteThey're free speech advocates, not "right-wing" extremist you brainwashed bolshevik citified rube.
ReplyDeleteThe extremist would be the 700+ volunteers that were willing to leave their dogs droppings all over Crissy field as their protest. That's near antifa's level of loserdom, what with their balloons filled with urine and feces they throw around...just ask Katie Couric.
Just caught the tail end of the Great Dennis Richmond...on 2 when Frank said you don't have to kiss me "or something to that effect" after Dennis just kissed Julie Haener goodbye.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the segment, Dennis and Frank reached to shake hands. Dennis then leaned in to hug and kiss Julie. Dennis then looked at Frank as said, I'm not gonna give you a kiss, to which Frank responded, "that's ok. You don't have to do that. I think a handshake is just fine," ...or something to that effect.
DeleteNot sure why you brought that up, but there you go.
Did Dennis Richmond have a new suit or did he take one out of his old wardrobe?
ReplyDeleteGreat to see Dennis Richmond this evening! wish ch 2 would do a an hour with him. he had much more to share with us beyond those few short minutes allotted to him. come on KTVU give us a full on interview!!!
ReplyDeletehey Rich can you interview him like you did with Lee Rodgers?
DeleteCopeland a guy??!!! Man, that voice! Thought it was of the female persuasion.
ReplyDeleteAgree that Azenith is a lightweight. There are better TV reporters out there; don't understand how KTVU chose her to be a regular. Maureen Naylor is much better and she's good at anchoring too!
ReplyDeleteRichmond always came across to me as an angry "Black Man"
ReplyDeleteso his wife must be an angry white woman? check your facts.
