I'm Supposed to do Multiple High Fives because KRON is expanding its newscasts --which would be great in theory but as long as the Napoleon ND, Aaron Pero, is in charge, I have NO faith in KRON. Moreover, as commendable as a commitment to local news is, KRON hasn't hired any significant news personnel (a token NY anchor hire) and in fact, laid off a significant person in its personnel division.
Programming Director, Jim Swanson, was canned along with two of KRON's local/commercial producers. Swanson was responsible for local commercials, live events, and special programming, such as The Backstory, July 4th Live, New Year's Live and Fleet Week.
Pero is a bully. Still. He continues to lead by intimidation, by fear, and by making the newsroom a virtual hothouse. I don't like assholes like Pero who possess little-man complex, treat underlings like crap and make people cry --so while it's cool that KRON is expanding news (maybe two less patio commercials) I'll continue to be wary of the news operation being run by the little weasel boor. Quote me.
You would think Darya would get more bad pub seeing as tho she is shacked up with the guy and has most likely benefited from his "alleged" antics.
ReplyDeleteOr is she really as cute, bubbly, fun and witty as she tries to portray herself in her daily "World according to Gary" segements?
Sadly sounds like the new station owners remained intimidated by Napoleon and the Bentley. Like the abuse victims intimidated by the Hairpiece's lawyers into silence. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteKRON expanding their News is like me expanding my rectal region after last night's Steak Special I had at Carrows in Santa Rosa. Hoo Wee!!
ReplyDeleteWilliam and Vivian......"Babaloo" from Desi and Lucille from Cotati
DeleteRich-what's the latest on former pretty KRON GA Reporter Avery Harper who abruptly resigned from KRON last month claiming she was being poorly treated by higher-ups(Maybe Aaron Pero?) Also do Robin the Weather Lady & Annie the Weather Gal still hate each other guts along with constantly sniping at each other. Keep up the great work Rich!
ReplyDeleteShe is back at News 12 in Long Island, NY
DeleteHarper is still in the area --I assume looking for a gig...and Yes, Annie can't stand Robin. I don't blame her.
ReplyDeleteSO - take a belabored news station without enough reporters/producers/resources, have a new boss come in and make a slew of cuts so abilities are even MORE limited, and then add some additional newscasts to the lineup while still being managed by a News Director whose
ReplyDeleteWhat could go wrong?
It is always cheaper to do news than pay to air some syndicated segment. You already have people on the clock so from a business standpoint, might as well put a newscast on the air. If the folks you have in the building don't feel like shouldering the load, then you replace them. Sounds like a cold position to take, but at the end of the day while their job may be to deliver us the local news, TV stations are also businesses looking to make as much money as possible.
ReplyDeleteAll of the stations make money, it is just a question as to how much. And there is a saying in the TV business that has been around for years when it comes to ratings: "the best lead-in to news is news." They will not say it, but the Bay Area stations would love to run as much news as possible and try to do it with KRON's staffing level. Because while people on this blog may whine about quality and certain personalities, the guys in the suits at the corporate level only care about counting their cash and making sure the bottom line is as fat as possible every quarter so the stock goes up.
I feel bad for the people who work under Aaron Pero. He's a terrible manager and a terrible person.
