SUNDAY MORING...a time to relax and enjoy. To sleep in and rest the body. Cleanse the soul. Forget about life's challenges and complex plots...peace and tranquility.
Until you put the radio on.
Noise.
Noise on the Cumulus KSFO littered with syndicated carp and crap.
Noise.
KNBR...with taped, local real-estate and financial shows that pollute the airwaves like the refinery factory smokestacks along 80 East.
Noise.
Normally sacred KCBS with live and local news repeating for the umpteenth time a political rally in the city; another repeat "story" about the GG Bridge being the most popular landmark in the county; endless traffic reports (no traffic) and REPEATED!, repeated, weather updates that are merely REPEAT! weather "updates" from 10 minutes earlier ...screw TSL and its ludicrous time sets. For what? Morons.
Noise.
Noise like KGO Radio with a, you guessed it, TAPED, syndicated tech show with some woman who has a chain-smoke voice and idiotic giggle named Kim who talks about gadgets. It's all tripe and leftovers like a bowl of rotten eggs and week-old spam.
Noise.
FM is no better with church programs and community shows that make watching paint dry look interesting.
NOISE pollution.
I need some coffee.
Oh God the Kim Kommando Show...
ReplyDeletematch the computer problem with one of her "products" that she is shilling that week.
She /He is just a googling computer queen. The low budget version of Leo Laporte.
Are all these idiots Lifelock hucksters?
Everyone on KGO is pitching something, it's really pathetic...they even try to work it in like it's part of the show. Tax guy Moskowitz appears multiple times a day. The other day I was unfortunate enough to hear the insufferable Ethan Bearman "interviewing" a "doctor" about, I shit you not, a groundbreaking oregano supplement.
ReplyDeleteGene Burns, Pete Wilson, et al. are rolling over, no doubt.
Bay Area radio has become the electronic communications version of the Salton Sea.
ReplyDeleteBay Area is unlistenable!!! Retirement show after retirement show after vitamin supplement show...thank God for Blues by the Bay.
ReplyDeleteTurn it all off. Every media outlet is trying to spin your brain/actions a certain way. Enjoy the day.
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer Gary Allen's business and investment show on KNBR on Sunday mornings over some of their regular sports programs, particularly the CBS Sports radio programs. And his show isn't taped.
ReplyDeleteHe does provide sensible financial advice. BTW, are radio stations required by the FCC to provide some amount of public service material beyond their regular programming?
DeleteYeah, I pretty much just listen to KFOG, now that I am retired and do not commute.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. 415, I just discovered your blog. I like it!! I do disagree with you about FM Bay Area radio on weekends-I don't thing that you listen to KQED(88.5) or KALW(91.7) on weekend mornings. It's great radio listening. Good news, interesting pieces. I'm sure you just haven't listened. Give it a chance and I look forward to your review.
ReplyDeleteAll thanks go to our beloved U.C.A., United Corporations of America, where the few control the masses (and message).
ReplyDeletekim is a woman? go to youtube and listen to howard stern for free
ReplyDeleteI listen to KDFC all classical, all the time. Never hear a political comment or an angry host. Nice.
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand your gripe with KCBS. I mean WHO listens to KCBS for more than 2 ours at a time anyway? It's not designed for that.People are in and out and want quick news hits with traffic and weather predictably on the '8s. One can come hop on at any given time and get particular news of the day. National news at the top of the hour, sports at :15 and :45 and traffic and weather. If I listen from top of the hour to the bottom of the hour, I'm good. I've got my fill and leave. During that time, someone else hops on and so forth. I think KCBS KNOWS that folks hop on and hop off and go to other stations. NO ONE listens to KCBS all day expecting something different every hour. The one-two hour cycle works. Leave it as it is. If I want IN-DEPTH or discussion, there's KQED or KGO (well I mean, that's what it USED to be).
