IT HAS BECOME ABUNDANTLY CLEAR: KCBS reporter, Jeffrey Schaub is pivoting to get back into TV News, but in order to do so, you have to have agreements on both sides. The TV people (KPIX) seemed to have voiced a "not so fast" message back to Schaub who left PIX on his own volition --in fact, Schaub really likes radio --he just prefers TV News. We'll have to wait and see.
By the way, Schaub is generally respected by his co-workers at KCBS but his occasional heavy-handedness rubs many folks the wrong way. Maybe time to pipe down the ego, Jeffster.
*Ronn Owens was never going to be a Michael Savage. Not his style. Of course, Ronn is one-tenth the talent of Savage and Savage has balls, something Ronn used to have but lost long ago. Savage is rough around the edges; most talented artists are (See Woody Allen, Frank Sinatra, Willie Mays, Bill Russell, Phillip Roth) Savage is brilliant on the radio. A master story teller who provides riveting radio and thought-provoking tapestries even if he occasionally goes off too deep into the broadcasting wilderness. It's a treat to listen to his show and you do have to LISTEN to get his appeal. I don't agree with much of Savage's politics but I still listen. I felt the same way with the late Lee Rodgers.
Ronn is nothing more than a vanilla simpleton these days with blasé topics and uninteresting and excruciatingly boring, run-of-the-mill chatter. He might as well be describing how paint dries --that would be more exciting than his current melba toast repertoire --no wonder he pimps mattresses because he long ago lost his broadcasting appeal. Any by the way, don't lump his current medical condition as an excuse for his radio dreck. Why? Because it was Ronn himself who said he didn't want any sympathy and not to cut him some slack over his ailment. I think he can still do a decent political interview and for that, I'll listen. But his overall work has become embarrassing and stale, like ten-day-old milk and burnt toast. He sounds tired. Until he starts selling mattresses.
*I used to have a ton of respect for Stan Bunger before Stan began his massively irritating yuckfest with Roberta Gonzales. It is now painful to listen to Stan when he cackles with that hands-on-chalkboard mess every morning at 7: 20 --the worst weather report on radio and an insult to the normally respected KCBS. Bunger has to play along, I get it but he doesn't have to kowtow to the pathetic freak show that is Roberta these days; she's a lot more mellow on TV thank God but when she goes Miss Mary Ann on radio, GAG ME. Bunger's giggles are worse, like encouraging a bad comedian to tell more jokes. The only thing worser on KCBS is Susan Leigh Taylor talking about her drive into the studio from Pacifica and that "I noticed some mist on my windshield." Jesus Christ, that's irritating! Stan Bunger should know better.
