    1. Depends on the food any my appetite...If I'm really hungry I'll go for some white rice and beef burgundy. Clam Chowder sounds good too and of course lot's of salad --blue cheese dressing.

  2. What are you going to talk about when Owens and Savage retire?

    1. The history of colonoscopies --and how it affects Bay Area media.

    2. This goes along with another post you had about FM stations earlier....The college stations, KFJC and Stanfords KSUZ, along with the public KKUP out of Cupertino have some damn interesting programming. Check out their schedules online. They seem to do well on a smaller budget too.

  3. How expensive is it to run an FM station ? It seems to be done fairly easily in other countries. Why can't a few buddies buy or lease a signal and broadcast their tunes (after requisite FCC licensing of course) instead of the mess we have on the radio now ?

    1. You are injecting too much common sense which is a no-no --depending on the format it can be quite inexpensive but obtaining a frequency and such can be very expensive. But I like your question.

  4. Hi Rich- what's happened to Dave Padilla?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Dave Padilla was offered an early retirement--a buyout from CBS and took it. He's no longer at KCBS.
      Rise and shine.

  5. Hey Rich, when will Ronn throw in the towel and retire? He's already blown up bridges with his former coworkers.

    1. When they kick him out because he has nothing to do and loves doing radio so he can leave the house.

The Garcia-Cannon divorce - any update?

    1. In a holding pattern. No new developments --although Cannon is doing infomercials for KRON.

  7. Any idea when or if KGO radio calls it quits and is either sold or goes all Spanish? I assume as the ratings continue to drop the Atlanta Brain Trust will cash out for whatever they can get.

    1. Actually, I think the latter is more a likelihood than the former. Cumulus needs a lot of cash and there's growing speculation that they may begin selling some of their bigger market stations to get some cash flow and make payments on that $2.4 Billion debt.

  8. How bad are the ratings for KPIX morning news and do you foresee any changes?

    1. They're awful.
Michelle Griego is the high-profile anchor and her contract is up. I would be surprised to see her leave but not shocked. Her salary won't be the same though.

  9. In their prime for the older ladies..Sally Field, Amy Adams or Farrah Fawcett?

    1. Oh, Farrah Fawcett all the way. Farrah was not only a pinup model and decent actress but had a brain too. And yes, she was beautiful.

  10. Dave Spahr is a fantastic weatherman. He explains the weather in an easy, straighforward, no nonsense manner. He actually seems like the type of anchor you'd enjoy. Have you ever seen him? What do you think? Why doesn't he have more airtime here in the Bay Area? Is it because he's a white male and not a semi-attractive (with makeup) ethnic woman?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've seen Dave Spahr and he's good. Not great but good, solid. I don't think too much about weather people. That said, I like Steve Paulson and Paul Deanno. They're very good too.

Why don't they ever call Stan to fill in on KGO when Thurston or Rothmannnnn or Christine are unavailable? I mean according to him he knows everything?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think Stan travels well beyond Hayward and plus, they couldn't afford him.

    2. Christine Craft no longer works at KGO

  13. Any recommendations across the Bay Area for good takeout Chinese food?

    1. In the Eastbay, I like Gim's in Alameda and they deliver. If you like spicy Mandarin, there's 3 Spices in Oakland: awesome. Both deliver too.

  14. When will KRON pull the plug on news?

    1. I have no idea but I'm watching less and less of their news. Can't stomach much mediocrity.

  15. What do you feel is the best local nightly newscast?

  16. What's going on at CSN Bay Area?

    1. Really nothing, just hurrying up and waiting for the Giants and Warriors --their in-house schedule is a mess --good thing they have deep pockets.

  17. Watching TV from a hospital bed: Scroll through the 30 or 40 channels available and you'll find 85% of the stations have commercials running. Pathetic!

If I were to purchase any product based upon their spots, it would have to be Progressive Insurance. Different every time, and short and to the point.

In the morning news, all the stations do a good job on the traffic and weather, but not much actual news. I don't know what the attraction is for Mornings on 2. It's probably Pam Cook and Sal Castenada, certainly not the robotic reading of Dave (I can't ad-lib) Clark.

At 7:00 a.m. it's CBS Morning News to find out what's happening!

  18. I guess I put my question under the wrong posting. Maybe this works better. ....Any chance on Coast 2 Coast being returned to local terrestrial radio? I see it listed on 1560 in Bakersfield, but I can't pick that up.

    1. Unless 860 AM 'The Answer' is interested (and I doubt that b/c it's a Salem station) then I doubt it.

You should be able to pick up Coast 2 Coast easily from KFI in Los Angeles.

  19. Anything to say about the big KCSM kerfuffle? Why is the Community College Board (which is about to make 10 MILLION by selling their TV station) nickle-and-dime-ing a listener-sponsored Jazz FM station?
