KTVU's Breadwinner --its heralded, award-winning franchise "10 O'clock News" will be EXPANDED to a half hour --from 10 PM to 11: 30, 415 Media has learned, exclusively through multiple station sources.
The expansion is set to debut in May right before the all-important May Sweeps.
The half hour addition will wipe out a syndicated show but Fox-owned KTVU makes big money on its local news and most especially at 10 PM --furthermore, Channel 2's extra thirty minutes will cut into other local news outlets' viewers in the Bay Area that begin at 11; a move that won't be happy news, particularly at KNTV and KPIX in particular.
KTVU's expanded 10 O'clock News --until 11: 30, was met with a rather subdued reaction; the staffers; air talent; producers; assignment editors; directors and camera people will NOT be getting any extra compensation.
Are you surprised? Not me.
That's ok. It will knock out Modern Family at 11pm (it also replays at 11:30) I usually wait out Modern Family for Seinfeld reruns at midnight and 12:30 if up.
ReplyDeleteRemember the good old days when Seinfeld was on at 11 and 11:30 following the 10 o'clock news?
DeletePepperidge Farms remembers.
Al Bundy will always be Al Bundy. His new character on Modern Family is beyond horrible.
DeleteThey should use that extra time to bring back Barbara Simpson and give her a segment. They could call it "Barbara's Corner" or whatever, but it would be Barbara interviewing guests on some important topics. I think that would be great!
ReplyDeletedo you know if it is going to be just 1 hour of news and 11-11:30 for sports wrap each day?
ReplyDeleteThey must be feeling the heat from KRON. KRON's 10 o'clock runs til 11:15pm
ReplyDeleteWar of the ratings, but pointless. Starting at 11:00, it just a recap of the latest news from 10:00 start, using KRON 4 as an example. When it comes to 11:00, I tune to KPIX and KGO for some refreshing news.
ReplyDeleteAnother way to make more money. It is cheaper to do news than run whatever programming they have at that time. And I will guarantee you they will not hire anyone to help put on the additional 30 minutes.
ReplyDeleteThis decision has 'overpaid consultant' written all over it.
ReplyDeleteHow the hell does the 10 o'clock news make big money for ratings just over 2, basically morning ratings at one time. I personally know no one that watches any local news at all.
