Let's Have a Quick 415 Media Talk on this Presidents Day

Image result for A few things off my chest   Jon Bristow, late of KGO, has been subbing and anchoring pretty much every time slot on KCBS. Early morning, mid-morning, late night, weekends, weekdays, I'm beginning to think it should be KCBristowS.

Bristow seems to be on the verge of being a fulltime staffer. Duh!

*The pratfalls of AM Radio: This Monday Morning on KCBS during the Phil Matier spot at 7: 50 --just as Matier was making a salient point about the feds withholding govt. money from high speed rail, anchor Susan Leigh Taylor warned Matier, "we only have 30 seconds left" --why, to get to another useless traffic report? (There was really no traffic, little accidents on this holiday, even Kim Wonderly said so countless times) --just one time I'd love to kick the format so someone like Matier can finish his report and embellish. It's healthy for the listeners too. Interesting radio, what a concept.

*Presidential historian and astute political analyst, John Rothmann, will guest on Ronn Owens KGO show today from 10-11 AM --it's "Presidents Day", what a coincidence.

*Underrated weather guy: KGO-TV's Drew Tuma. Smooth delivery, compact and straight to the forecast which is the way it should be --not too much to ask for. And better yet, Tuma gets it right most of the time.

*The Ken Wayne beard experiment is just a winter deal. Expect the beard to gone any day now. Wayne is KTVU's ace in the place.

*If I ever hear radio/TV media tonsils say "we really need the rain" if there's two weeks of sunshine I will throw a stone at my 7 dollar flip phone. (I really have an IPhone 6 but who's asking)

*"Drought" about as useful a word now as "millennial." Both are irrelevant.

Rich you never mention Dave Spahr at KRON. Perhaps you've never seen his work but he's miles ahead of most of the weather guessers here in the Bay Area.

    1. That's right, Freddie. Some of those other weather guessers are real pencil-neck geeks.

  2. Susan was correct in providing the warning. The Traffic report is more than just information, it is sponsored. $$$ will not be lost. It might been a good idea for the News Editor to take the commentary offline as a special podcast/segment and promoted that. That way Rich you get the information you want and the sponsors get what they contracted for.

  3. Those smart phones will suck your brains out if you are over 50.
Give me a Kyocera Dura-XV flip phone anyday for live radio hits and durability in the field.

  4. Actually the hardest working weather man in the bay area is KNTV's Rob Mayeda. I put my reputation on the line of always being right too on this. He not only genuinely loves the science of weather..the charts he posts are very informative and clear. No better examples of "Atmospheric Rive" weather then the charts he posts.
    Check em out on Twitter.

  5. It's too bad Ronnn doesn't know much of anything or he could do a show by himself. The man works 2 hours a day; you would think he'd be up on every subject he comments on. These right-wing nutty guys call his show with a bunch of made-up facts and Ronnie can't debate them intelligently. Although these days he mostly agrees with them having also got his news from Fox.

    2. The most amazing thing about Ronn yesterday was it was a HOLIDAY and he was there!!! I didn't think there was any holiday that he didn't take off!

  6. Anonymous 3:18. What are you smoking that keeps you asleep until noon? Rahnn is the most prepared radio talk show host that I've heard. I suggest the next time you get up before ten, check him out. You'll be surprised.

  7. Jon Bristow is super annoying to listen to with that fake radio voice but obviously Jack Swanson can't get enough of it.

  8. Is it just my TV but has anybody ever noticed that Frank Somersville eyeballs seem to have no pupils?- just two black big dots. Wonder why?
Then you have JR Stone at KRON and his always seem like two pinwheels ready to spin..like some Beatles song.

  9. Then on after Ronn and the esteemed and learned Mr Rothmann, it's THE ETHAN BEHRMAN SHOW!!! OMG, what magic!!! First up, Ethan gripes about how fat Trump is, so his first guest is a fitness specialist to tell KGO listeners what to do about Trump's fatness. ... lol .. seriously, believe it or not, this was actually Behrman's agenda for the show's opening segment. What a ratings grabber!! LOL
