Hey Rich, I really don't see KGO hiring either Pat or John full time; it would've happened already. Do you agree?

    1. Yes, to a certain extent but I also know they've been experimenting --let's face it, in this day and age given the country, given Trump's knack to make news everyday, I believe you have to have a game plan if you espouse to report news and "want to talk about it."

KGO needs a nighttime formula; Rothmann and Thurston are live and local. It shouldn't be this easy and complicated still. Cumulus has money issues but if they want a legit SF station they'd be wise to nail down these 2 hosts.

    2. I always ask myself and others I know...if these two are as great as 415 media and a few readers here build them up to be, why haven't they popped up anywhere else in market? Surely someone would try to hire them if they're as great as Rich builds them up to be? No out of market stations either?

    3. Who gives a damed about Pat or John, they work on KGO's terms or not. If they can find better term sthey should take them....Oh they can't...No Sh_t Sherlock.

Both are decent talents but talk radio has changed.

      Back at me fools.

    4. KGO's bar is so low that we're now pretending Rothmann and Thurston are quality. What the hell happened? I know Owens is terrible but come on already! Night time probably brings in no money so why would they pay someone to do local?

  2. Rich for several months last year KBCW (channel 44) simulcasted the Good Day Sacramento but then suddenly dropped it. I suspect it was financial but do you have more information from your sources?

    1. It was, like you suspected, financial. I don't know any more Kevin.

    2. I noticed it's on for less hours in Sac too. Could be on the chopping block there.

    3. Good Day was not cut at all on KMAX.

    4. Good Day had terrible ratings in the Bay Area. Ch. 44 did better selling infomercials so bye bye Good Day Sacramento

  3. How many hours of sleep do the morning reporters get on average? All I know is they have to wake up by 2:30AM and go to work for the 4/5AM segment.

    1. Very little. But morning gigs are morning gigs. Remember the days when morning shows began at 7? It's a new world thanks to the Internet. 4: 30 shows are now commonplace.

    2. It has more to do with traffic commutes. Morning news used to be at 6 AM for networks since shows like Today and Good Morning America begin at 7 AM

    1. Being that they are immensely popular and profitable I doubt it but Entercom (which has taken over) might have different plans.

  5. Your 2 cents on the National front. How long do you think Sean Spicer and Kellyanne Conway will last? They got to be miserable. Do you think they can get any media jobs?

    1. I think the better question might be how long President Trump lasts. Did you see today's press conference? What a circus. I've already heard the "I" word mentioned several times; even Republican lawmakers are beginning to get weary of The Donald.

      Delete
    2. It was a breath of fresh air to have a President get up there and actually answer questions directly from the media.

It was a far cry from the days of Obama where the questions had to be submitted to his handlers prior to him taking the stage and after vetting the questions and choosing only the ones that they wanted to answer he would speak for 1.5 hours answering about 6 questions on average.

      Delete
    3. You're absolutely right, it was very entertaining--I'll say that.

    4. @1215pm..a breath of fresh air?...lmao. I thought it was an SNL skit. It was beyond bizarre, blaming everyone for all his problems. And what's with the big lie on the Electoral votes? Doesn't he fact check anything? Idiotic clown that the whole world is laughing at. BTW, that Obama questions nonsense is utter BS. Too much Limbaugh/Breitbart for you!

    5. The idiotic clown the whole world was laughing at just left office. Keep feeding at the teet of Rachel Madcow and let us clean up the mess.

What Trump is doing is genius really to those smart enough to realize what's going on.

    6. 6:50 you're wrong about Obama. Pre-selected questions and teleprompters. Your hero was coddled with smoke and mirrors.

    7. @728/732..your hero (Chump)is a complete jackass. Not sure who's dumber: Trump or the sheep that follow him. Anyone with half a brain is totally embarrassed by this habitual lying wackadoodle. No one likes him or respects him but his fake family, killer Putin, a few billionaires and the alt-right loons like you two. I hope he doesn't destroy this great country before he gets impeached, but then we got Pence, the religious nutjob. Even Indiana Repugs are happy to see him go.

  6. Are Chip Franklin and others who shill for various products compensated for the use of voice? If so, how much? I assume it would be a substantial amount. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, they are...How much? Depends on the sponsor and who voices it...When Ronn Owens spouts "SleepTrain" he's getting pretty good money, probably high, five figure range but might be more. In some cases, yes, very substantial.

  8. What's the deal with Radnich and Murph and Mac not doing a hand off between shows. I believe I read that Murph does not get along with Radnich. Was there an incident? Do they avoid each other when passing in the halls at KNBR? It's pretty noticeable compared to how all of the other shows on KNBR have interaction during the shift changes.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think they have a running feud but I also think they aren't exactly enamored with each other...Like many others, Murphy is not very comfortable with Radnich, that's hardly big news because most news people are not comfortable with Radnich because he makes people nervous. That, I know for a fact.

      Delete
    2. Radnich used to make fun of an belittle the M&M show on air and Murphy got sick of it and bitched about it on air.

      Delete
    3. Well, maybe it's because Murph is almost as sycophantic of management as Bob Fitzgerald. I kinda considered more of a former sportswriter. Even Mac makes Lee Hammer jokes - but not good ol' Murph. I'm sure he enjoys the pay as a morning drive host and loves the solar heating and Amici's pizza he's currently hawking.

  9. Why do you think Trump has such a difficult time denouncing antisemitism?

    1. It's not "worthy" of his time even though his daughter converted to Judaism and married a devout religious man. Just confounding really.

  10. Is CSN sportstalk live done?

    Gene, Visalia

    1. Gene, frankly, I didn't know it was still alive. I haven't watched for months and have only caught snippets after Warriors/Giants/A's games if at all... the problem with this show is that no one on the panel, any panel for that matter, says anything of merit or substance, it's pretty much vanilla wafer material and that's the way Comcast likes it...Furthermore, the proliferation of shows like this on ESPN and Fox Sports 1 and the like already dilutes the product, therefore Comcast panel shows can't stand out --and won't in the near future.

    2. Yes it is. They have been running taped/old shows. Part of cost cutting.

  12. Hi, Rich. What's with KNBR? Shows supposed to start on the hour usually start about 10 after. Then 5 minutes of content, followed by another block of " updates" and ads. Really aggravating

  13. I also think that on CSN Sports Net Central is done. The new leader at CSN is cutting everything. What a joke. They might as well just shut down and show only live games.

  17. Is that Tom Benner (Officer Vic) doing so many of those "call now" commercials for things like copper pans?

  18. Ethan's and Chip's shows consist of the hosts having conversations with giggling women. Yeah, it's talk all right... to each other. No decent subjects. Just ridiculous spouting of blather. According to Chip, he has done everything and knows even more.

I actually find A&G much more interesting - at least they play well off each other and actually discuss real people/events in the news.

    1. A & G are lame, medicore radio. They sound alike and laugh at all their jokes that are mostly not funny. Chip and Ethan are better without the giggling women which cheapen their shows. I just miss the old KGO and the awesome lineups from late 80's to 2011.

On a different subject, Rich, do you or anyone else remember a commercial that aired on KGO in the 80's or maybe early 90's?

It had the voices of a married couple. The man comes in the house and says: "I got the luggage for our trip". The woman says: "Those are cardboard boxes, this one says paper towels, the other says toilet paper". The man replies: "Which one do you want"?

My memory of this commercial is that it must have been produced by someone who was from old time radio. The voices and sound effects were perfect---you were really hearing a couple in their house and the man did come home with cardboard boxes!

It was from California Luggage Center or something like that. Unfortunately it appears to be no longer in business any longer.

In any case, any memory of this spot?

    1. No, but it sounds real interesting, it obviously made a mark with you.

    2. 9:14-sounds like it might have been one of many spots done by the late Jack Riley(Mr. Carlin' from the old 'Bob Newhart Show'). Riley usually teamed up with some giggly actress as they played a married couple. They were best (worst?) known for 'Shedd's Spread Country Crock.'

    3. Nice pull there Brian, Riley's voice was so recognizable- always that dead pan delivery. He probably did hundreds of radio ads.
