415 Media Breaking: KBAY-FM Shake-Up; Sam Van Zandt Retiring; Partner Given The Boot

FLASH! KBAY-FM SHAKE-UP -- Morning Show Kaput.

I'm hearing from a 415 Media source that SJ's KBAY-FM is shaking up its well-rated morning show with "Sam and Lissa" a goner. Their last show is Friday (tomorrow)

They're #5 in the South Bay from 6am until noon. They also get a blip on the SF rating charts, being just a few tenths of a point behind KGO despite having a weak signal in SF.

Bay Area Radio Hall of Famer Sam Van Zandt is retiring and the company gave the boot to his Hall of Fame partner, Lissa Kreisler.

Friday morning (tomorrow) is their final show.

  1. She was always over the top perky- a 60's sitcom happy neighbor's voice. A throwback in a way to uber uncontroversial.
Sam sort of hit the jackpot with Robert Redford/porn star good looks, a good voice..and a job someplace in the bay area.
    Seemed likes a nice guy.
    But,you never know....

  2. I will miss the heck out of their show. They started my day with laughter, filled me in with bullet points on the news so I was up-to-date but not depressed. I liked the music they played and I very much enjoyed their personalities. I sincerely appreciate all of the work they have done for our community and the local charitable organizations. What a mistake.

  3. Lissa's "over the top" perky/giggly is real. Hers is not an act, but she's genuinely a nice person and down-to-earth as you hear on the radio. Sam, who once had a gig as the voice on Allen Funt's Candid Camera, is a more reserved fellow and he doesn't suffer fools. The two of them made for a good radio "marriage." They also did a lot of community charity which helped build listenership. Both of them announced their departure on Facebook Thursday afternoon and the number of responses (shock/surprise, say-it-ain't so) was in the hundreds in less than an hour.

  5. This was inevitable with new owners and now a new PD. KBAY may be changing format.

  6. Don't raise your kids to be DJ's . . .

  7. I remember Lissa Kreisler from her days at KLOK.

  8. I never knew about their program and I'm a daily radio-head. Had no idea the iconic Sam Van Zandt from glorious decades past was still on the air. Unfair what happened to them, as always in the horrible radio conglomerate climate.

  9. I have been listening to them for 8 years now and was sad to this morning to hear that they are leaving. They made me laugh.

  10. I too remember Lissa on KLOK 1170 back when Bill Weaver owned the station. I also remember Sam's long run as PM Driver on K-101 during the Gabbert era. I wish them both well.

  11. I just read somewhere today that KBAY is switching to the classic hits format after Christmas. That makes no sense to me. Checking the latest ratings KBAY is the top rated San Jose station, #2 overall behind KCBS. I don't understand why they would risk that to try something new. But I gave up trying to make sense of format change decisions a long time ago.

  12. I have no desire to wake up to this awful noise in the A.M. Will be switching radio stations. KBAY shame on you!!

  13. Terrible decision by a parent company that is not from the area and placing someone in the PD spot who has no ties to the community. The reason for their success was that they were part of the community. If Alpha Media thinks they can simply step in and make these changes without repercussion, then they are wrong. They took away my station from me and my family. No reason to keep listening or supporting 94.5 FM. They are already off my pre-sets in my car.

  16. I know what is missing! DJs. PERSONALITY. If I wanted to stream music, I would do it with out ads and other unnecessary interruption. I want the chat and chatter of DJs. You have taken away the only reason for this over Pandora. If we were still listening to your station, it is because we liked it.

  17. I will miss them terribly! Loved their chats in the morning on my way to work. I tolerated when one was absent. I will switch to Sirius Radio. :( SAD!

  18. Very, very sad... I miss them every morning while driving to work. The new guys (sorry) just do not fill the vacuum Sam and Lissa left behind. I am sure it will take time to adjust. :(

  19. I am not listening to 94.5 anymore. Truly miss Lissa and Sam and their chatting. Who are these people coming to bay area and changing our beloved programs? KGO and 94.5 are both off my preset now. Sad!
