Local Stations Go Ga-Ga For Election Night Coverage; KGO Radio Bring in Thurston/Rothmann; KPIX Goes Heavy with Melissa Caen Who's Soft Puddy; North Beach Restaurant Place To Be Election Night If You Can Find Table; Al Michaels/Al Davis Feud Still On-Going With Mark Davis; NBC Invades Oakland For Prime Time 'SNF'

Image result for San Francisco Deli Like virtually all their network and cable brethren most Bay Area TV stations are going all out on Election night. It's the safe choice and given the amount of interest in the presidential race, you'd figure there'd be a huge audience.

Between the cable goulash --CNN, Fox News. and MSNBC; not to mention the on-line outlets, I don't know if the local 415 Media will have any real significant audience outside unique local ballot issues and local races.

Image result for election 2016Another issue that has recently gathered traction is election fatigue. Many people are relieved that this whole wretched episode in American politics is finally coming to an end. And those are the people that are going to watch and listen to the results on radio.

I'm a frequent KGO Radio critic but I'll give credit to PD, Mike Anthony and Opps Mgr, Lee Hammer for bringing in Pat Thurston and John Rothmann for Election night coverage that will commence around 4 PM and continue on thru midnight. Assuming there's no shenanigans or late-night voting issues, we should all know the results fairly early, my guess by 8 PM locally. Of course I'm assuming all hell doesn't break loose and Donald Trump doesn't do something goofy.

*If you're a local celebrity political sniffer and want to spice up your Election night, head over to North Beach Restaurant and you'll probably run into Willie Brown and a Burton brother, not to mention Dianne Feinstein and Jerry Brown. If you can catch a table in the downstairs wine cellar room you have more clout than Joel Murray in West Portal.

*A 415 Media half-prediction: Hillary wins; she's indicted (maybe); Obama pardons her. (No matter what).

*Melissa Caen, the political analyst for KPIX, is quite frankly, embarrassing. That's not a popular stand to take because Ms. Caen is quite striking on the TV screen but if you actually listen to what she says (or more to the point, what she doesn't say) you see right away Caen is unqualified. She's a glorified pretty face with Pacific Heights regale and frivolity --she'd be a better reporter covering the local party at the Getty compound. She doesn't offer anything even remotely inside or unique.

Image result for Melissa CaenOf course you won't read this type of opinion in the SF Chronicle.

*Al Michaels comes to Oakland tonight (part of NBC's Sunday Night Football crew covering Raiders-Denver); many people aren't aware that Michaels had a notorious feud with late, Raiders owner, Al Davis.

Image result for Al Michaels NBC Al DavisThat feud hasn't been lifted as Davis' son, Mark Davis, still regards Michaels as enemy #1 in sports broadcasting circles.

  1. If Hillary doesn't win- then I'm building a dome over my home. I think crime under Trump would explode. He's going to be the breeder of a punk nation and police shooting back..asking no questions first.
btw-- This new law in California letting bikes split lanes? Horrible. Choppers are roaring down Mission blvd weaving in and out of a 40 mph zone at 80mph.
We need less cushy Police SUV's and more Police on motorcycles.

    1. Are you fucking kidding me Stan? Hillary is by far the most corrupt candidate we've seen. If she wins you deserve what you get.

I look forward to the recession in 2 years as it is regardless of candidate.

    3. NOBODY hates punks more then me. I just see Trump just umping the ante. Black lives matter rally's? I can see under Trump the National Guard doing a Kent State plus on them.
From what I've seen, the shoot the punk rate by police has been at 90% correct. It could be third world numbers under Trump.
Look at the Philippines president..he's killing celebrities now. Rosy O Donnell best move to Canada if Trump wins.

That's what the "all" of the GOP Operatives, the Grab Our Pussy Party, & the RepubliCons are saying about Hill...But thus far there is "no evidence, & no dice?!" #VoteBlue!

    5. Recession will be sooner than that. We're due. That's all the business news crowd talks about.

    6. I can't wait for the recession. Put Hillary in, let the massive recession hit. The Dems were propped up for 8 years under Obama by massive spending. We spent our way out of it under the Dems. In Obama's own words, "the bank of China". Now we've max'd out the credit cards and the bills are coming due. Who will be in power to take the full blunt of the blame? The same party that caused it.

    7. It is almost as if you are on Rothman's Payroll Rich, which I am sure he could afford to pay, since he is wealthy. As to KGO making Great Programing decisions, the reason you have Rothman and Thurston on is because you fired the news department. Once again these people get on KGO because anybody good is gone...In the GOOD OLD DAYS it would have been Burns and Gross, True professionals, not people they forgot to fire. Just because you are wearing Babe Ruth's number...Does NOT make you Babe Ruth. Low Standards and Low budgets are what you get NOW on KGO...So Sad.

  2. Your love affair with the biased talking heads at KGO baffles me.

    1. Here's a little clue for you. RAdio talk show hosts are hired because they have points of view. Neither John (who was a young campaign aide for Richard Nixon, and a longtime democratic party supporter in his adulthood) nor Pat are pretending to be unbiased journalists here. John, a presidential historian has a unique set of skills to bring to voting analysis. Pat, a bernie lover and hillary hater has never hidden her agenda, either. theyll have Gary Dietrich, as well, who is paid never to have a point of view. All of it will be the best stuff on KGO these days. Melissa Caen is not listenable or watchable,so lacking in analytical skills despite her expensive wardrobe, is she.

    3. To 10:14 the love affair some of you have with the biased KSFO baffles me. If you don't like biased left wing talk (and KGO is not all that left wing) you have plenty to choose from in terms of right wing bias talk 560, the new (the answer) 680, a couple of Sacramento stations. What are you complaining about?

    4. 680, love me some biased sports talk.

  3. Forget about election night. I'm getting geared-up for the November 9th...when the real fun starts...and the networks have to spend tons of money covering the riots and court cases both parties bring.

    Party On Garth!

    1. I am as well. You will see more rioting if the Republican candidate wins than you will if the Democrat wins. Democrats tend to be more unstable and prone to violence. You've seen it in the violence they have brought to numerous rallies across the country this election season.

Also, as Wikileaks has shown us, they will hire people to riot and cause overall trouble just so that MSLSD and CNN will say, "look at all of those people rioting against the Republicans!".

    2. 10:48 AM. Everyone knows that if the Dims win with Hell-ery, there will be few if any riots. It's the Dims/Socialist/ Progressives/ Anarchists/Communists/Sharia lovers who wish to smash out all free speech. Look at all the property damage they've done to cars, people and property that display any support of Trump. Horrible, primitive, pinheaded and mob-like.
They have 'water-boarded' themselves whilst drinking The Kool-Aid!!! Deplorable.

After all we all know there is no cooler cat than the KGO radio host.

  5. From Willie Brown's SF Chronicle Sunday Column:

If you’re downtown Tuesday, stop by John’s Grill on Ellis Street for the traditional election day lunch. Owner John Konstin picks up the tab from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
You meet new people. Last year I met Tom Steyer, the ultimate pitch man for good causes. I’ll be there to greet you, and to serve you, if necessary.

    2. I have it on good authority that it's Tom Steyer who's been paying the DNC's bills for quite awhile. That's why they've gone all out against the oil, gas and coal companies and it very well may cost them the election.

    3. Tom is on 100 commercials this election season because he's putting his face out there with the hope of running for Governor next cycle...or so the rumors go.

Oh, that's guaranteed. I'm sure the paper pardoning her is already on Obie's desk, his signature ready to go on it.

  7. Why do the Davis's have a feud with Al Michaels?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It goes way back to Al Davis benching Marcus Allen and playing Bo.

    2. Because the Raiders PR dept leaked that Michaels was having an affair, which he wasn't, so Michaels attacked Davis's running of the team. This was late '90s.

  11. Davis was a slimeball, just ask the taxpayers of Alameda County. A millionaire owner who rarely used his own money and ended up paying the price (his franchise is worth way less than the others in the NFL), even when playing well this year they still have thousands of seats 'tarped', nowhere else in football (or baseball) does this happen.

  12. No, not Millennials, because there are fine sites like media matters, politico, real politics and the daily beast where they probably get their political info. I have two kids, one a Millennial, who is very politically aware. All this bagging on Millenials sounds like old men hosing down people who walk on their lawns.

  13. For those who liked to be listened to about their concerns, do you want a serial woman abuser to run the free world? Despise the Benghazi and e-mail corruptions all you want, but being listened to doesn't mean you will be treated with the same respect as a high-income peer would be given. Show some decency, and understand that unintentional constitutional mistakes pale compared to intentional groping and assault. The Billy Bush video says a lot about each personality on that film. Sometimes listening isn't enough. Look deep, and never act shallow.
