  2. I've noticed their news is even sloppier than usual lately.

  3. I wonder if she knows something about KRON's future (or lack of one)?

    1. She was a career executive at Media General so it's clear to me she's running from something related to the merger.

    2. So I'm wondering if she's simply headed for another Media General assignment elsewhere so it's no big deal. Or else did they send her to KRON without guaranteeing any way elsewhere at Media General and now she's got to exit Media General to continue in her career.

    3. There's no further information so maybe she really is a scalp hunter on the way to her next gig. I remember seeing a few months ago that someone noticed Ashe was spending a lot of time at KOIN which is/was another Media General property.

  4. Funky Gold Messina.
    Peace.

  5. Perhaps she doesn't want to be an officer on watch at KRON as it sinks beneath the waves.

    1. Agreed. She says doesn't have another gig so maybe they got her an exit package and she's gonna sit on the sidelines for awhile. More wine, please.

  6. Will KRON be able to sell it's tower rights and ownership share at Sutro Tower to KNTV? Though it would be adding a new competitor to the mix of local broadcast stations sharing the tower it might be the best way for local stations to fight cable stations for revenue. Cord cutters may be more likely to cut the cord if they can get good over-the-air (OTA) reception. I think that's better for the broadcasting business.

    1. Yes, I'm a nearly-100% cord cutter. I watch about 90% OTA broadcasts in sparkling quality -- the best available from any other source. There are lots of sub-channels with interesting programming, too. It's all free. One thing missing is a dedicated national news channel (lke CNN or Fox) on one of those subchannels. OAN or one of those should make their national service exclusive to OTA stations, similar to Antenna TV or Me TV. That's the only reason I ever go back to cable, just to watch either one of those news channels or else an obscure college football game every once in awhile. No cable is free! Free is good!

    2. Doesn't work that way. KNTV is licensed to San Jose, and *must* put a city-grade signal into San Jose. The location in the antenna farm on Mount San Bruno allows NBC to (just barely) meet that regulatory requirement; Sutro probably wouldn't. Sutro works for KRON and the others because they are licensed to San Francisco. (The FCC doesn't *mandate* that San Fran stations put a city-grade signal into Daly City, Sausalito or Alameda, only San Francisco itself. Just as it is irrelevant how good a signal KNTV puts onto the Peninsula, only how strong the signal is into San Jose itself.) Also, remember that *Comcast* owns NBC, which is the licensee of KNTV. Why would it be in their interest to encourage cord cutting?

  7. Hmm,Never saw her on KRON's Backstory. I do remember an older gray haired producer type giving out orders calmly all the time.
Radnich always names producers who are small time to complain about..never mentions Ashley.
Ash looks good in the Rachel hairdo. I cant wait until it makes a big comeback.

  8. Is Ashley Gold Messina her real name or is it just a stage name for her career?

  9. So I'm waking up and looking at news sites, and stumble upon this headline in today's New York Post: "Rose McGowan sex tape leaks." Only I read it differently, "Ross McGowan sex tape leaks." I spit out my coffee, shake my head and read it again. Oh boy!

  10. She came in to set the table for the station to get liquidated. Now that the axe is looming for all the peons she doesn't want to be around to look them in the eyes when they find out they were never anything more than a line item on a spreadsheet to her. When she arrived at KRON she invited people to come to her to speak their minds about what needed improvement, and anybody who told the truth was quickly demoted or given good reason to get the hell out before they were axed. Unlike former GM and Prince of Darkness Brian Greif she wasn't necessarily evil, but her job was always to prep KRON for the sausage grinder. But it's kinda pathetic she won't stick around to make the sausage.

    2. She helped make the sausages...but she won't stick around to eat them. Just like the farmer in the movie Motel Hell.

  11. Did this departure have anything to do with the national embarrassment Media General had to endure with the viral Radnich incident?

  12. Connect the dots folks...Media General is selling(has sold I heard today, but have not had independent confirmation) to Nexstar. In Sept. Rich linked to a report that Nexstar wanted to keep Gold-Messina but that KRON is worth more in a Spectrum Auction than as a brick-&-mortar TV station! So she is leaving, when is the auction? You may hate Gary, but this means a lot of good people would he out of work as well.

  13. I work in the business. Have for years. I'm actually in the same building yet I've never heard of this person in my life.

Sad state of affairs. Maybe I should find another industry.

  15. Was it her decision????

  16. Like rats from the Titanic, so it begins...

Who will stay to the bitter end?

Will there be a "so long" party a la KQAK in 1985?

    Does anyone care anymore?

Who will turn out the lights for the final time?

    Stay tuned...or not...

  17. This seems pretty obvious reading between the lines. The fact the fact that she is staying through the end of the year means she will leave town and likely TV altogether. But from a business standpoint, things are very clear and have nothing to do with whether or not KRON lives on. When you are a mid to high level manager in a company that is about to be taken over, you need to get in writing from the incoming company you will still have a seat at the table. If there are no guarantees then it is time to look out for yourself. It is standard practice in any merger. Not getting a bump up the ladder or a guarantee that you'll keep your job running a department? You are probably one of the first to go and the company taking over is likely going to bring in their own people to make the decisions. The peons just keep slaving away although they may get some of their peanuts taken away.

She bailed knowing that her job was probably in jeopardy whenever this takeover finally happens. Ratings could be going up. People might be happy. But she knows her days in the corner office with the nice view are numbered. Pull the cord and get out before you are kicked out.

  18. Gold-Messina: An empty tight suit.

  19. Is it a coincidence that the last few days,Radnich segment has been tight? They play music,he gets upset and sez "There's the music,I guess I'm done" or "I have 15 seconds left"...still they go on without him. I dont think there will be a Gary Radnich tribute show put together by the staff any time soon..or late.
