KGO Radio Audio Carnage: Chip Franklin Show; Radio For The Mentally-Impaired; Rumors: Bearman/Copeland Out; Thurston/Rothmann In; Sarah and Vinnie? FM Tripe; Katsuyama/KTVU Uber-Annoying; KNTV's Obnoxious Inouye; KRON's Abysmal 'Back Story'? Misery For The Viewers; Friday 415 Media Truthiness

Chip Franklin
Chip Franklin, part of the oatmeal/cardboard talk-radio club on KGO gets more nauseating by the day. Chip would be really terrific punishment for a convicted felon who was sentenced to singular torture. Punishment: listening to the Chipster and his annoying sidekick: the yenta Nikki  Medoro. I'd rather be trapped by two pregnant pygmy women than having to listen to Franklin's three-hour audio carnage.

Worse yet, I'm told by a source that Franklin might be the incumbent to Ronn Owens morning gig as soon as Cumulus figures out how to replace RO (who sounds like crap)

Franklin sounds like a pedantic, middle-aged bozo who sells insurance in San Diego. Wait a minute! He's a San Diego guy, what a coincidence!

Franklin and his enabler, Medoro, are about as compelling as a Tenderloin prostitute hooked on meth with dueling sideburns. The kind of woman you wake up to after a night of tequila cleansing and ten bags of Cheetos --only Chipee is worse.

Nikki Medoro
I have tried endlessly to listen to CF but he keeps talking down to people. Chip has gleefully bought into KGO's tried and pathetic manual to the talkers extolling them to speak about inane issues, you know, people are stupid issues. The world could be coming to an end; the Apocalypse is nearing; the sun is exploding; leeches and maggots are invading; and Chip's in the middle of asking men to rate their sex life. Add Medoro: "I'm a woman and you guys still don't understand us!" Ouy Vey, get me two vials of morphine and a shot of Jack Daniels.

Ethan Bearman
*KGO add: On the outs: Ethan Bearman, Brian Copeland ...nothing is official but word on the street is weekend talker, Pat Thurston is odds on choice to replace someone during the weekday, probably Bearman, but it could be Copeland too. If Thurston leaves the 7-10 PM slot, John Rothmann will get the gig because he's intelligent, has great content and political prowess, all too foreign entities on 810 AM.

All of this bad orchestra is conducted by crappy KGO PD, Mike Anthony-- who I don't particularly care for, as you know.

It seems as if you are slightly mentally-impaired and have a resume built on a bunch of small radio stations and don't know crap, call KGO and they'll give you a management position.

Although Anthony might be a goner by years end because the real power guy at the station isn't that impressed.

Sarah and Vinnie
*Can anyone explain to me the appeal of Sarah and Vinnie? They too are of the garden variety dog-poop radio, in this case, FM. Sarah is Vinnie's figurative ball and chain, even though the gruesome twosome are not hitched--he's been sleeping with every know chick on Battery St. Whatever, the show is atrocious. A CSPAN4 "Book Notes" rerun is more appealing.

Image result for jana katsuyama ktvu*The only person more annoying than KTVU prime yenta, Jana Katsuyama, is KNTV's really obnoxious, Mike Inouye, a boring heap of traffic residue. Good God, what utter carp!

*Noted shoe journalist, Heather Holmes, had a rough week. The sale at Nordstrom was called off at the last minute.

Poor baby.

*KRON's abysmal, "Back Story" : about as interesting and honest as a Lodi Jack in the Box.

    3. I think Copey is the best host on that station. He has a wider range of topics than any other hosts and he actually listens to callers and is respectful when they disagree. Chip is ok, but Copeland and Thurston are the best hosts by far.

    4. I agree with you to a certain extend about Brian Copeland I always liked him. Rothmann is my favorite though, but that is because I'm a history buff (especially presidential history)and also a politic fanatic. and John is tops in those area. I would argue Ronn is still up there, but it is obvious that Parkinson is taking a toll on him so probably he should retire. I don't see any reason to get nasty about it as some do on this blog. Ronn was one of the best, and now a horrible disease playing havoc with his mind and mobility, so lets have a little compassion. Brian does talk about a wide range of topics, and has interesting guests> I like Pat, but don't care for her guests. My list would go John Rothmann, Brian Copeland, Ronn and then Pat, after that is hard to say who is worse I rarely listen for more than a few minutss to Chip, Ethan or Maureen. Rest of programming is syndicated, I like John Batchlor. While we are talking about worse host, no one is more annoying than that Doug Andrew, his voice alone has me on edge. I know he is not a host, but pays for his time on the air, does anyone actually listen to that crap, it is the same week after week, and his advice is horrible, having a 401K where you and your employee contribute is one of the best way to plan for retirement. If you need financial advise listen to Bob Brinker, Ric Edelman or Dave Ramsey (he is on 650 Sacramento) not someone who is trying to sell life insurance, and I'm a licensed Life and Health Insurance agent.

  7. No matter what KGO does, it's just like reshuffling the chairs on the Titanic. Probably won't work, the damage is done, the rating are still bad.. Not a huge Chip fan but he's better than Ronnnn right now, just lose Nikki and company. Will be glad to see Ethan gone and see Pat and John get regular gigs. Copie's okay, maybe put him on weekends but he has 1 man shows to do.

  8. I will take Ronn over any of the other people - I still like him a lot. I turn off the radio when the repartee between Ethan Bearman or anyone with Miki Midoro. Totally NOT interested in her or her personal life or comments B O R I N G. Would love to see/hear John Rothmann back in a regular time slot. The thought of Chip Franklin being the new Ronn is scary.

    2. I mostly agree with you, I certainly think Ronn is better than Chip, funny thing is when Chip first started I kind of liked him, his energy, he was funny at times and had some good arguments, he seem to have gone downhill, as I think Ethan Bearman has, he was on KSFO and although I didn't care for his politics, he sounded intelligent enough, he did have an annoying habit of elongating his words, and often sounded like he talked down to his audience, that seem to have changed. However, now he jumps from subject to subject, always has some doctor and food person as a guests, and most annoying of all, his giggly producer. I don't listen to him, I prefer Tom Sullivan on 1530 a.m. (Sacramento) and sometimes Michael Medved on 860 a.m. both are most more conservative than I am, but they seem to be fair and have an independent view of things, rather than following the right wing talking points ala Hannity and Rush.

      Delete
    3. @1150pm..pretty much agree with you're whole post. Chip was good at first but has gone down hill. Bearman talking down and having too much food people as guests, not good radio. And his giggly producer...ARGH!!! Haven't really hear Tom Sullivan and sometimes tune-in to Medved. I'm pretty liberal but he's reasonable for a Con. The whole 560 lineup is repulsive. I guess Beck later at night is almost listenable.

      Delete
    4. If you like Medved, you should give Tom Sullivan a try, what makes him different than most other conservative hosts, is that he welcome callers that disagree with him, and he is polite to them. He is also fair and has no problem being critical of republicans, and he talks about different subjects. He is a licensed pilot and whenever there is a plane crash or as recently a train wreck he has interesting things to say. He is also a former high way patrol officer and so when he talks about police shootings his take on the subject is a little different than most other hosts, does not mean he always stands up for the police.

  10. Thurston and Rothmann in with Ronnn? What's the demographic? 75-90?

I thought that the station was trying to skew younger to get the younger listener?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Who cares about the ages of the host if he/she can do an interesting show. Pat is the youngest early fifty or late forties (she has 13 year old twins). I do think KGO was trying to get a younger audience, but I don't think that is working, based on ratings. Perhaps the younger people that listen to KGO is more serious than what the management thought, Seems like the younger people KGO brought on has not helped ratings.

      Delete
    2. Pat is 60 or 61, her Facebook said she graduated high school in 1973. You're a decade off.

      Delete
    3. Having said that, I still LOVE her voice :)

      Delete
  11. Successful hosts on the radio aren't necessarily of any particular age or political view. The key is to be riveting, whether the audience hates you or loves you doesn't matter. John Rothmann, a presidential historian is well-suited, at least up until the election. Pat Thurston is a mother of many, long time radio host, beyond progressive in a progressive area, and worked at one time for the secret service in some capacity. Surely by now, the station should know if either or them or any of the others have remarkable ratings..right?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Rothmann is a one trick pony. The only thing he can do is presidential politics. That will be over in a month and a half and he won't have much to talk about. It would be ironic if he replaced KGO's other one-trick-pony, Copeland, who always seems to be talking about race. These guys need a program director who can sit them down and teach them how to do other subjects.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Clearly you don't listen very often. I listen almost every day, and he talks about many things. He only talks about race when it's relevant, considering the fact that the whole country is talking about race right now. Everyone else talks about it, but when Copey does, somehow that's all he talks about. He did a brilliant show on that topic a couple months ago

      Delete
    2. I think you are the same person responding to Rothmann all the time, saying he is a one trick pony, seem like you and others have the same view of Copeland. I listen to both of them as much as my work schedule allows. As far as Rothmann is concerned, yes he talks politics, political personalities, and history a lot, however so does Hannity, Levin and Rush. Also I have heard, in the last few weeks, John talk about the Zika virus, local subject (what do you remember about San Francisco from years ago)other subjects as well. However, it is a political season and I would bet most people that are listening to the radio want commentary and hear callers pertaining to the political landscape.
I would say the same for Brian, he attacks several subjects, local issues, has a real estate hour once a week, does a book and theater segments, as well as once a week a motivational segment. Those of you who think Brian and Rothmann is a one trick pony, is just not listening to their shows with an open mind, if at all.

      Delete
    3. 8:21 I totally agree with you, I posted the blog at 12:03. Seem like a certain segment of the population is so paranoid about race, so if Brian brings it up once a week or even less, somehow that is all is talks about, for some people. I for one like getting Brian's take on race issues, and you are right several other hosts talks about race, but Brian has a different take. There are not many African American talk show hosts, Larry Elders is on 860 a.m. but he sound more like Sean Hannity, not really that interested in his take.

The incompetence by cumulus is off the charts which makes the idiotic conspiracy theories that Michael Savage is being censored even more ridiculous! They put Ethan Bearman on air, are they really that smart that they would "censor" Mr Weiner!?

  18. The Chrissy sidekick of Bearman is a laughing fool. She laughs hysterically at anything and grates my nerves to no end. One, Bearman isn't funny, his delivery is weak and dare I say in the Bay Area, effeminate, but with his Tonto laughing at any and everything it's too much. I turn it off.

Copeland can't get of his black victim soapbox or his bash Trump long enough to be interesting. Get him back on stage as a so called comidian and off the air other than his Ronnnn/Brian jock hour which is just a giggle fest that gets most jokes giggled over by the hosts so no one gets the punch lines...waste of air time.

Franklin needs to go. This is a guy that was a conservative in San Diego and comes here and likens himself as a native Bay Area resident but has worked all over the country, DC, Boston, etc. He's a fake and a chameleon. Will bend himself to what ever is needed. Not to mention he's uninformed and gets his facts all mixed up but states them as facts. Loser.

    1. You should go back and listen to Copeland's show from a few weeks ago. He told his listeners that he gets frustrated when people criticize him for talking about race. Race is a major discussion in this country, so many talk show hosts are talking about race relations. Brian says he has to pick and choose very Carefully which race topics he can talk about, because people criticize him for it. However, if Ronn or chip brings up the same topic, its find. He talked about the double standard he experiences as a broadcaster and asked listened to weigh in. It was very good radio. Was listening in my driveway when I got home! I seriously encourage you to go back and listen to it, and you will change your mind.

By himself, he cant shutup, rarely lets his callers talk, embellishes his stories and sometimes his facts are just wrong, and I'm as liberal as they come. I wish they'd bring back Chris Clark and Shawn Nix. Chris, from the UK, was pretty good. He believes he got canned for ripping Dr. Laura and Michael Savage on the air. My kind of guy.

Why do radio stations want to target a "younger demographic?" Generally, they have no money and are in debt.

Perhaps KGO should put a couple of hours of news late afternoon, like they use to. 5 to 7 p.m. I agree John Rothmann would be a great evening host, 7 to 10 p.m. could be a nice slot, I'm being selfish, since I work retail and have a long commute, so having John to listen to would be great. Alan Colmes use to be on 910 am. 7 to 10 p.m. however 910 is now is a Spanish station. Alan could be on 10 to 1, then John Batchelor. Get rid of the repeat early morning.

  40. Copeland is a race baiter, pure and simple. He says he's a comedian, but he's simply not funny. Ethan Bearman is good, a lot of food disscussion yes. Chip Franklin is far and away the worst. Nothing good about Chip. He does talk down to anyone who doesn't agree with his BS statements. I don't see Chip lasting much longer.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Copeland is not a race baiter, you are paranoid about the subject. Copeland wrote a book and then made it into a play, called "Not a genuine black man" he wrote it, because years ago a black caller told him he was not a genuine black man. Not sure why, I think his education and take on things. Seem to me Brian cannot win no matter what. What exactly makes him a race baiter?? Brian talks about many subjects, and when he talks about race he is not one sided, is very critical of looting and mindless protesting, such as shutting down the freeway. Also when he talks about race it is because some incident that has almost everyone on the radio and other media outlets talking about it. What do you suggest he does, ignore it, then he would get flak for that. As for Brian being a comedian, he has been one for years and opened for many big names. Perhaps you are lacking in a sense of humor, especially when it comes from a black man!

    ReplyDelete
  42. My complaint about Copeland is his show is way too showbiz oriented. Too many comedians are on. Your complaint about him being a race baited is total bs. Franklin brings up race issues twice as much as Copeland but you seem to miss that.

    1. If you want an example of Copeland's race baiting. There was a video of two cops holding down a black guy. He was not complying and they shot him. Copeland comes on crying about how he could not believe what he had just seen. Of course, he does this just based upon the video, without waiting for the facts. I watched the video and so nothing necessarily out of the ordinary... Afterwards it was revealed that the guy was an ex-felon and cops were called to the scene because he was threatening people with a gun...Copey plays the race card. That's his schtick. And it got old 20 years ago... And he's not funny. Get this Byron Allen wannabe off.
