Give a High-Five To Former KPIX Super Reporter, Mike Hegedus; 415 Media Retro

Image result for Mike Hegedus KPIX

Mike Hegedus was one of the very best reporters at KPIX in the 80's and 90's. He was mostly a General Assignment correspondent but every one of his reports were always entertaining no matter what he was reporting.

Hegedus had a knack for making even the most mundane story watchable--his outtakes were spectacular: "I'm Mike Hegedus --KPIX, NiiiiightCast!"

Too bad we don't have more Mikes around the neighborhood.

Hegedus is still going strong up in Santa Rosa --has a broadcasting and media production business. Here's a hoist for Mr. H from yours truly.

  1. Is that Bill Bixby circa 1980?

  2. Ok, nice retrospective. But along those lines, whatever happened to Alan Wang? Was his dismissal ever litigated? Was there ever a settlement? Is he working somewhere else these days?

    1. I recall Rich mentioning there was a hefty settlement for Wang.

  3. Typical progression: Young, working in the Bay Area. Older, even better, more experienced, relegated to teeny market.

    1. The guy has his own company now. I'm not crying too much.

  4. Sorry, but I never could stand him. But I didn't even notice when he disappeared. It was kind of like how you forget how much it hurt after you take a pebble out of your shoe.

    1. I liked him at first, but after awhile he seemed to enjoy the sound of his own voice a bit much for me.

  5. Mike had a short stint in the early nineties at KNBC in Burbank. But that is just a footnote to his time at KPIX. Indeed, my dad couldn't much stand him either. But he did good things, and name three reporters today on the remote who we will remember thirty years from now.

  6. I found him rather loud and maybe a tad obnoxious, but I guess that's still better than what's out there today.

  7. Would love to contact Hegedus as I remember him from KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs.

Alan and the station negotiated a settlement/buyout; supposedly is was in the six-figures. I'm pretty sure one there was some sort of non-disclosure agreement as one of the conditions of the settlement.

  9. He had a voice, which is a lot more than you can say about many.

Rich - how about a catch up with Evan White. Rumors he owns / owned a bunch of buildings in the city?

    Raising a grandchild?

So little heard about such a smart journalist.
