Roqui Theus Loses Support at PIX; PC Run Amok (Again) 415 Media Fires Back; Friday Opener

Roqui Theus, KPIX's new morning traffic anchor, has completely fallen out of favor with her new co-workers at 855 Battery.

A source close to the PIX morning staff tells me:

"It's embarrassing, just pathetic, really--
Everyone except management agrees that Roqui is a train wreck and dumbing down our morning show."

That's a shame really and not Theus' fault. As I pointed out, had PIX given her more time to prepare and work some extra rehearsal on set, she'd probably be a lot more focused on the air and not some rank amateur who blows lines, mispronounces street names and highways, and looks lost.

This is what happens when you blatantly go the PC route --let's not fool ourselves; Theus is a woman and a Black woman too. PIX wanted some points and they got it but it would have been far more successful had they prepared their new morning talent. Clearly, they have not.

*Speaking of PC run amok, I shall be abundantly clear and for the record: I could care less about one's sexual orientation and gender. I rip and rip freely and I do not discriminate. You all know that.

So if it happens to be that there's a lot of lousy on-air people here that happen to be gay, gay men, gay women, so be it. What? If you're gay you're exempt from criticism? Bullcrappo. Unlike some of the phonies in this town that throw out the "you're a homophobe --you're a misogynist --you're a racist, I'll continue to say what others won't and hide behind their bullshit PC M.O.

*415 Media: It takes a lot of time and money to do a blog--and do it 7 days a week. Thanks to those of you that have subscribed contributed. I do not like to constantly post pledge breaks but I can't continue on without your support. So please, if you can, go to the PayPal icon on the right side of the blog and become a PAID subscriber to 415 Media. $25 a year, little over 2 bucks a month.

  1. Rich - I got to watch her act in Sacto on that Good Day program (undeniably the worst show still on the air). I thought she was raw and amateurish while interviewing the Cotton Candy guy at the Lodi Street Fair, and she hasn't improved. Dumbing down of the viewership? What happened to Gianna Franco?

    1. I miss Erica Kato & her astute weather forecasting on TV. What I don't miss is Kate T. Scott & her blatant Lezzry.

    2. I'd rather watch Gianna Michaels. I always "erupt" with joy whenver I watch her work.

  2. You may claim "I shall be abundantly clear and for the record: I could care less about one's sexual orientation and gender. I rip and rip freely and I do not discriminate. You all know that." However, at the same time, you sometimes put up sexist posts which concern the female anatomy, rather than anything of substance (i.e. screen caps of either T's or A's of the women that you rile upon. I believe that would be appropriately known as being a hypocrite.

Sex sells. Or did you miss the memo?

  3. There are plenty of Gay male reporters in the BA who have traded "favors" for on-air slots.
You think the FOX-Ailes thing is bad??? Ailes can't hold a candle to what does/has happened in the BA recently.

  4. It's not that you can't rip these people that are gay or lesbian, it's that you go out of your way to mention that they are gay or lesbian. For example: the way you go after Kate and her wife or Reggie Aqui commenting on a Sharks player. You need to get over it!

    1. Because THEY themselves mention they are gay...Scott routinely talks about "my wife" and repeatedly refers to her sexual orientation. And Aqui's tweet was way over the top --I'm not the only one who said it, plenty of commenters here too. Please, give me a break.

    2. Can you give me the name of a radio personality that doesn't bring up their spouse or significant other from time to time? Being on the radio is a lot more personal than delivering the news on TV. Plus, they have time to fill.

When they bring up the fact that they're gay so often that it's like rubbing it in your face, they are ESPECIALLY subject to whatever happens to come their way. What goes around comes around.

  5. And speaking of multiculturalism and being all inclusive and diverse...has anyone seen the US mens Olympic basketball team??? No asian, hispanic, white or middle east players. Whats up with that?? No others qualify??? Really?? How in the hell is that possible, how's it legal??? Are you telling me that blacks and ONLY blacks can shoot hoop??

    3. If you haven't noticed, Olympic athletes from the US are the best of the best. Race, multiculturalism, diversity and all the PC shit goes out the door when it comes to competing with the very best in the world.

Apparently the WHITE members of the selection committee didn't see it that way. They put together the roster that had the best chance of winning, not one that would assuage your little hurt feelings.

    7. Well it all changed when they allowed pros to compete in the Olympics. Basically you're watching an NBA team, not that it's bad, but for years the Olympics were for amateur competitors.

Nothing is as embarrassing and pathetic as SJ Merc's headline, which made national and international news for its backward reference to last night's gold medalist Simone Manuel.

    1. Good point 11:58am. I thought no one would bring this up.
The biggest hypocrite in America is the Mercury News, your average left wing newspaper.
      Run by stupid editors.

    2. what was the headline?

      Delete
    3. @11:58 AM
As a person of Color I totally agree with your comment...But lets face it, there aren't very many African Americans in Silicon Valley! And the Merc most likely felt that no one would notice their headline about the 1st African American Swimmer winning Gold, & not mentioning her NAME?!

      Delete
    4. They all look alike! (sorry, just a joke.) Yes, I agree with you if they didn't even mention her name. Pretty sorry of them, but it maybe had more to do with someone sleeping on the job than anything else.

  8. Rich, it is 100% her fault. She clearly does not take the gig seriously given how much she stumbles on the most minor stuff like who to toss to and what the name of the damn branding for the traffic center. She is just not capable, plain and simple. This was like u said an obvious PC hire when there are many more qualified reporters willing in this market

    ReplyDelete
  9. If a white hire crashes and burns like Palumbo it's just a train wreck and oh well. When it's a woman or a minority you lard on an extra layer of qualifiers. Minorities don't get to just fail. They fail because they are minorities in your world.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Point missed. When the hire is so obviously done to fill the mandated Bay Area quota for minority/LGBT criteria and the person eventually displays gross under qualifications, then yes, it is appropriate to call it out.

      Delete
    2. 1:38 : Obvious to who? You? Whites get to fail. Black people or anyone not white is marginalized for failing because of their ethnicity. That's why POC know you have to be twice as good as white people at anything because even if you succeed people will say you didn't deserve it. Gabby was dragged for not putting her hand over heart but Phelps guffawed through the national anthem and it was boyish hijinks. White people bring up race and ethnicity at every turn then accuse POC of playing the race card. Nobody not white is ever going to be good enough for you. If this woman was good at what she did you'd find something. Voice annoying ass too big ugly hair masculine physique you'd find something because she would never be good enough for you. Just own it and STFU.

  10. If you really need traffic you listen to KCBS radio for the reports anyway, don't even bother with TV

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, if you really want traffic you use Waze or Google Navigation. The radio reports are usually a poor reflection of the current situation by the time they air.

      Delete
    2. Why? They suck too. "Smooth sailing on the Bay Bridge," and I've been sitting on the span for 30 minutes. "Huge mess on 580 near Oakland," and I'm speeding through. They rely on stale info and "eyewitnesses" (the fabled KCBS phone force) that don't know where they are half the time and thus report information wrong.

The best thing to have is live traffic updates on your car's navigation.

      Delete
    3. On the 8's 24 hours a day.

      Delete
    4. "use Waze or Google Navigation"

With CalTrans maps on your phone you can see actual speeds on all their sensors, along with the maps. It's great and by far the best and most up-to-date.

  16. Could have just hired George Rask and be done with it. The man only knows traffic like the back of his hand when it comes to bay area roads and highways. But no be stupid and hire someone just to be pc. I was always calling George over at Kron with accident reports because I do alot of driving and he would get it on the air before anyone. Btw George is a good friend and I like his smarts. He's Mr. Traffic as far as I'm concerned. All well tv sucks anyway these days so thank god for KCBS radio. Everyone passed up a great guy in George Rask.

  20. I agree Rich. But, lately the WHOLE Morning show looks like a 3 ring Barnum & Bailey circus act.
I see why Ms. Wenger the former traffic reporter there left to be with her family. I would not want yo be a part of this act either with all the drama and mishaps that are occuring there. Actually I have stopped watching all the morning shows because of all shenanigans they pull to get viewers and
ratings. It is backfiring on all of them right now!

  21. As of late in the mornings I have been tuning into the Cable Morning Shows, so I had not caught the new hire on the KPIX Morning Show...But I caught her on Thursday, & Friday Mornings on KPIX, and all I can say is, "Horrible!!!"

When I saw her on Friday, Ms. Theus forgot to Mic up to give the Traffic Report. And Roqui was giving her report without a Mic on, until the crew told her to put her Mic on?! This Young Lady is not ready for Prime Time, and it shows, Badly! I actually feel embarrassed for KPIX...Smdh?!

  22. Regarding traffic reports on tv, and if i remember right it was Alex Bennett that pointed this out; tv traffic reports are for people that are cheating on their spouses so they know how long they have left till the spouse gets home.

  27. It's hard to blame these young, raw 'amateurs' who should be matriculating through places such as Fresno or Reno instead of major top ten markets like SF. Blame management which has dumbed down the product and cheapened the quality by going with younger, more inexperienced pros who would never have gotten even a sniff at these jobs ten-15 years ago. But with deregulation and consolidation and shrinking ad revenue. stations are going to continue to go cheap and this is what the public will continue to get.
